There is no established universal winner among real-time speech-to-text APIs. Choose by testing your languages and audio, then comparing how each service handles partial transcripts, end-of-speech decisions, transport, deployment region, limits, and total cost. The options below are hosted services, not directly interchangeable products, and the latency and pricing figures are provider-published rather than results from a shared independent benchmark.
How the current options compare
These are the documented capabilities and figures available for the listed models and API paths as of October 2026. Check the current provider documentation before implementation: model names, prices, regions, and limits can change.

| Provider and option | Streaming behavior and interface | Languages and constraints | Published price and latency |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI GPT-Live-Transcribe OpenAI model page, inspected 2026 |
Low-latency streaming model that returns transcript deltas from live audio. The page identifies a Live session endpoint and streaming support; it also lists tunable latency, unstructured context, keyword hints, and multiple language hints. | Rate limits vary by usage tier. The model does not support the free tier. The page does not establish a comparative accuracy or latency result against the other providers. | $0.017 per minute of realtime audio, as listed on the OpenAI model page inspected in 2026. No comparable latency figure is stated. |
| AssemblyAI Universal-3.6 Pro Realtime AssemblyAI product page, inspected 2026 |
Secure WebSocket delivery with partial and final transcripts. The product page distinguishes contextual prompting, keyterm prompting, code-switching, diarization, and medical mode. | 32 languages with automatic language detection, according to the product page. | $0.45 per hour listed. AssemblyAI advertises approximately 150 ms P50 latency for this model; that is a vendor claim, not an independent cross-provider result. |
| AssemblyAI Universal Streaming and Universal Streaming Multilingual AssemblyAI product page, inspected 2026 |
Streaming variants listed on the same product page. The FAQ also describes a roughly 300 ms P50 answer; the page does not make that figure interchangeable with the Universal-3.6 Pro Realtime claim above. | Universal Streaming is English-only. Universal Streaming Multilingual lists English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. | $0.15 per hour listed for these variants. Confirm current billing details and the precise model associated with any latency claim. |
| Google Cloud Speech-to-Text streaming Google Cloud v1 documentation |
Bidirectional streaming recognition returns interim results as audio is processed and final results for completed audio segments. The v1 documentation supports streaming requests only over gRPC. | Language configuration and speech-context hints are available. Check limits for the API version, model, and region you plan to use. | Price and comparable latency are not stated in the reviewed v1 streaming documentation. |
| Deepgram live streaming Deepgram live-streaming guide |
Live transcription via SDKs or non-SDK examples. The sample uses model=nova-3 and smart_format=true; the guide covers interim results, end-of-speech detection, and measuring streaming latency. It says Deepgram does not store the response, so the caller should save output or send it to a callback for custom processing. |
The reviewed guide is an integration example, not a full comparative language or service-limit specification. | Current comparable price and controlled benchmark are not stated in the reviewed guide. |
| Microsoft MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming Microsoft Learn documentation, inspected 2026 |
Continuous audio over WebSocket with incremental and final transcripts. In the documented integration, turn detection and noise reduction must be null. The service does not perform server-side speech detection or automatic commit; the client decides when to commit audio. | Microsoft documents 60 supported languages and automatic detection when language is unset. Audio must be mono PCM16 at 16 or 24 kHz; a session can last at most one hour. Listed available serving regions are Sweden Central, Central US, and South India. East US 2 is marked “Coming soon.” Recheck region status before deployment. | Pricing is referred to a separate page and is not stated in the reviewed streaming documentation. No comparable latency figure is stated. |
The published figures are not a normalized cost comparison: providers may bill different units or treat connection time, idle time, retries, channels, and add-ons differently. Likewise, supported-language counts and vendor latency claims do not establish which service will be most accurate or fastest on your audio.

Choose by the behavior your app needs
Decide whether partial transcripts matter
Partial results can let an interface display speech before the utterance is complete, but they are not necessarily settled text. Specify whether your app can revise text as the speaker continues, or whether it should wait for a final result. Compare time to first partial, how often partials update, and the delay between the end of speech and finalization as separate measurements.

Choose who controls turn-taking
For a voice agent, endpointing determines when the system treats the user as finished and can respond. Establish whether the provider detects end of speech, whether the client must run voice-activity detection (VAD) and commit audio, and how interruptions are handled. Microsoft MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming’s documented integration requires client-side decisions about when to commit; do not assume that its incremental transcripts include server-side turn detection.
Match the transport to your client
WebSocket and gRPC affect how you build and operate the audio connection. Google Cloud’s reviewed v1 documentation permits streaming only with gRPC; other options in this comparison document WebSocket or streaming/session interfaces. Confirm that the provider’s current SDKs and transport work in your target browser, mobile app, or server environment. Microsoft separately recommends Voice Live with WebRTC in most cases for low-latency streaming from client-side web and mobile applications. Voice Live is a broader real-time audio path requiring a Microsoft Foundry or supported Speech resource; it is not the standalone MAI transcription endpoint.
Rank #2
- Omnidirectional Microphone - It is not a Speaker or Speakerphone, it is a condenser microphone. The microphone has an omnidirectional pickup pattern with a pickup distance of 11.5 ft, making it easy to capture the most subtle sounds from 360° directions and transmit the sound more loud and clear. Participants can hear each other without raising their voices.
- Made for Conferences - This microphone is perfect for small or medium meetings over an internet network by using Skype/GoToMeeting/WebEx/Hangouts/Fuze/VoIP/Zoom and other softwares. You can also use it for court reports, seminars, remote training, business negotiations, video chats, etc.
- Plug & Play, No Drivers Required - The microphone is compatible with all operating systems - both Windows and macOS. You just need to plug the microphone to start recording. If there is no response after inserting the mic, please go to the microphone setting of your computer and select the mic as the INPUT device.
- Convenient Mute Button - Quickly mute/unmute your microphone. The built-in blue indicator light for checking whether the USB microphone is working.
- Well Designed Cable - The microphone is constructed of sturdy and metal material and the base is fitted with an anti-slip mat which keeps it stable on desktop during use. It is small, convenient and does not require much space when in use. Connected with a 1.8m nylon shielded wire, it effectively eliminates signal interferences to achieve the best recording results.
Verify the exact language and locale
Check the streaming model’s specific language and locale support, not just the vendor’s overall language count. Test code-switching if speakers mix languages, and include representative accents, names, numbers, and domain vocabulary. A model’s language list is not evidence of equal recognition quality across those languages.
Evaluate shortlisted APIs on your own audio
A useful comparison uses the same consented recordings and the same scoring rules for each candidate. Include the acoustic conditions and speaking patterns your app will actually encounter, such as background noise, interruptions, varied accents, and specialist terms.

- Free-floating, decoupled microphone for precise recordings
- Built-in pop filter for perfect sound quality
- Built-in motion sensor for device control by gestures
- Freely configurable function keys for personalised workflow
- Microphone grille with optimised structure for crystal clear sound
- Prepare reference audio and transcripts. Use representative, consented recordings and have a reviewed reference transcript for each one.
- Measure streaming timing separately. Record time to first partial, partial-update cadence, and time from speech ending to final transcript. If testing a voice agent, measure the full response turn separately from transcription latency.
- Score recognition and task success. Compare each output against the reviewed transcript, paying particular attention to names, numbers, and domain-specific terms. Also test whether errors prevent the app’s intended task from succeeding.
- Test the production path. Repeat over the actual browser, mobile, or server network path and verify reconnection and transcript-state recovery behavior.
- Calculate total cost for expected usage. Normalize the providers’ billing rules against your expected audio or connection time, channels, idle periods, retries, add-ons, and infrastructure.
There is no shared independent cross-provider benchmark in the available official documentation, so this is an evaluation method—not a claim that these services have been tested against one another.
Check deployment and operational limits before committing
- Sessions and throughput: verify maximum session length, concurrency, and account-specific rate limits. OpenAI’s documented rate limits vary by usage tier.
- Region: confirm that the chosen model is available in the region your application needs. Microsoft lists specific MAI serving regions and marks East US 2 as coming soon in the documentation inspected in 2026.
- Audio format: validate the required encoding, sample rate, channel count, and framing against your capture pipeline. Microsoft’s documented MAI requirements are mono PCM16 at 16 or 24 kHz.
- Transcript persistence: determine whether you must save interim and final output yourself. Deepgram’s reviewed guide says the response is not stored by Deepgram and advises callers to save it or use a callback for custom processing.
- Version and billing: confirm the specific API version, model, region, rate limits, and billing unit at implementation time. In particular, the Google streaming details above are for v1.
Which API should you shortlist?
Start with candidates that match your required languages, client transport, and control over turn detection. OpenAI and AssemblyAI publish specific realtime prices in the reviewed pages; AssemblyAI also publishes model-specific latency claims. Google Cloud documents interim and final streaming results over gRPC, Deepgram’s guide provides an integration path and discusses end-of-speech handling, and Microsoft’s MAI documentation spells out audio-format, session, and client-side commit constraints. These differences can narrow the field, but they do not establish a quality winner. Make the final choice using the same representative audio and production path you expect to use.
