Best Raspberry Pi Alternative for 24/7 YouTube Live Streaming in India

An Intel N100 mini PC is a candidate for simple OBS-based YouTube streams, not a proven 24/7 appliance. See what to check before buying in India.

For a simple, single-source YouTube stream that needs desktop software such as OBS, an Intel N100 mini PC is a sensible Raspberry Pi alternative to shortlist—not a proven 24/7 appliance. No specific N100 model is validated here for multi-day streaming. Before buying, check that exact unit’s encoder and operating-system support, cooling, network connection, and behavior after a power or stream interruption. The right choice depends first on whether you are looping a prepared video, capturing a camera, or building an OBS scene.

Choose hardware for the stream you actually want to run

A computer playing one prepared file has a different workload from a machine capturing a camera and encoding it live. OBS scenes with multiple sources, animated overlays, scaling, or other effects add further demands. Decide which case describes your channel before comparing processors.

  • Prepared video or playlist: The machine must play the files reliably and deliver the stream using the selected encoder. Test the complete playback and streaming path, including long videos and loop transitions.
  • One camera or HDMI source: Check capture-device compatibility and whether the workflow encodes in software or uses a supported hardware encoder. A USB capture card is relevant only when you need HDMI input.
  • Composed OBS scene: List the number of cameras and sources, overlays, output resolution, and frame rate. For a heavier scene, investigate a higher-headroom x86 mini PC; a specification alone does not establish sustained performance.

The available India-focused hardware guidance identifies the Intel N100 mini-PC category as a candidate for a straightforward single-source stream, citing Quick Sync hardware encoding as a reason to consider it. It does not validate a particular machine under continuous OBS load. Orange Pi and NVIDIA Jetson boards also appear in broad alternatives roundups, but that does not establish a simpler or better-supported YouTube/OBS workflow for this use.

Why an Intel N100 mini PC is a shortlist option—not a guaranteed winner

An N100 mini PC may suit someone who wants a conventional desktop environment and a simple single-source stream. But processor family is not enough to predict the result: mini PCs with the same processor can differ in cooling, memory, storage, firmware, ports, and operating-system support. Quick Sync support on paper also does not prove that a particular unit can sustain the chosen OBS workload.

Before purchase, check the exact model’s hardware encoder support in the operating system and OBS version you plan to use, whether its cooling is appropriate for sustained operation, and whether the seller provides service and warranty support in India. No model-to-model ranking, India sales ranking, or comparative multi-day reliability result is established here, so treat the N100 recommendation as a category to investigate rather than a tested verdict.

Set the YouTube stream target before evaluating the PC

YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video, with up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. Bitrate recommendations vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate; do not apply one format’s figure to another.

CanaKit Raspberry Pi 5 16GB Starter Kit PRO - Turbine Black (128GB Edition) (16GB RAM)
  • Includes Raspberry Pi 5 16GB with 2.4Ghz 64-bit quad-core CPU (16GB RAM)
  • Includes 128GB Micro SD Card pre-loaded with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, USB MicroSD Card Reader
  • CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5
  • CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan
  • Mega Heat Sink - Black Anodized

For one specific reference point, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps video bitrate for H.264 at 1080p30 and publishes 5 Mbps as the minimum for that setting. Use YouTube’s applicable row for your chosen format rather than treating those values as universal. YouTube also advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Check upload capacity and continuity

YouTube recommends leaving about 20% spare upload bandwidth. A connection that barely meets the stream’s bitrate can be vulnerable to other household or office traffic, and YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption could break a stream. Where practical, use wired Ethernet and test any backup connection under realistic conditions; these are sensible precautions, not guarantees against interruption. Read YouTube’s streaming tips.

Buying checklist for an always-on setup in India

  • Workload and encoder: Confirm that the exact OS, OBS version, and hardware encoder support the intended sources, codec, resolution, and frame rate.
  • Sustained cooling: Look for a design suited to continuous operation and check how it behaves during an extended test. A processor specification is not a thermal test.
  • Actual power draw: Compare measured wall power at idle and while streaming if available. Do not treat processor TDP as whole-system consumption.
  • Network: Prefer a stable wired connection where practical; assess upload headroom and test backup connectivity.
  • Recovery: Find out how the system behaves after a power cut, reboot, OBS crash, or YouTube disconnect. Test restart and stream recovery rather than assuming they happen automatically.
  • Power backup: Consider a UPS if short local outages are a concern. Size it for the computer, router, and other connected load, as well as the runtime you need; no particular UPS model is established here.
  • Total ownership cost: Compare the full landed price, warranty, and local service availability in India, not just the processor or advertised device price.

Test the full setup before relying on it

  1. Match the configuration: Set the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, CBR bitrate, and keyframe interval in your streaming software, following the applicable YouTube guidance.
  2. Check the whole signal path: Test the actual video file or camera, scene, audio, capture hardware if used, and network connection—not just an isolated encoder benchmark.
  3. Run a test stream: YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Check stream health and watch for dropped frames, encoding problems, and audio or video issues.
  4. Exercise recovery: During a planned test, confirm what happens after a software restart and a temporary network interruption. Determine whether the computer and stream return to the intended state without manual intervention.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your channel loops uploaded recordings or playlists rather than going live from a camera, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded videos on YouTube, not camera-based live capture. Start the free first day.

What this recommendation can—and cannot—establish

The evidence supports the N100 as a category worth shortlisting for a simple desktop-software workflow, not as the proven best machine for uninterrupted streaming. YouTube’s published ingest and network settings help define the target, but they do not show that an individual computer can meet it continuously. Check the exact model, workload, local support, and recovery behavior before committing to an always-on setup.
