Lorex’s compatibility chart lists the LNZ81P25 and LNZ45P25 for tested X Series recorders, but that evidence does not establish compatibility with every Lorex recorder. Check your NVR before choosing a camera.
How to choose a PTZ camera for a Lorex PoE system
- Identify the recorder. Find the exact NVR model on its label or in its settings. “Lorex PoE system” alone is not specific enough to confirm compatibility.
- Check the exact camera–recorder combination. Use Lorex’s compatibility chart to find your recorder and the camera you are considering. Review the individual feature matrix, not just whether the camera appears in the chart.
- Verify the functions you need. Look for support for PTZ control, presets, and motorized zoom. A camera that provides video may not offer every advanced function.
- Confirm power and channel requirements. Read the chosen camera’s manual and compare its PoE class and power consumption with the NVR’s capacity. Check whether the camera uses more than one channel.
- Test after installation. Confirm live view, recording, playback, PTZ movement, zoom, and presets as applicable. A working video feed or motion detection does not prove that PTZ features work.
Which Lorex PTZ cameras have compatibility evidence?

Why ONVIF does not guarantee PTZ control
ONVIF support and a working video stream do not necessarily mean that a Lorex recorder can control a third-party camera’s pan, tilt, zoom, presets, audio, or other advanced features. Lorex’s U Series connection guidance describes live view, playback, and motion detection as the tested baseline for compatible ONVIF cameras, and warns: “Other advanced camera-specific features, such as audio, PTZ, notifications, spotlight controls, and siren controls, may be limited or unavailable.”

For a non-native ONVIF camera, first confirm its ONVIF conformance and firmware. Lorex’s U Series instructions say to connect it to an unused PoE port and check that the channel’s Protocol column shows ONVIF. That label confirms the connection protocol; it is not proof that PTZ controls or presets are supported.
Check PoE power and NVR channels
Power requirements vary by camera. A PTZ model may need PoE+ rather than standard PoE, and a camera’s heater or other functions can raise its power demand. Check the specific camera manual and the recorder’s available power budget before connecting it.

Lorex’s guidance for its X Dual-Lens PTZ says a compatible NVR port can provide up to 30 W, but full operation with the heater requires the camera’s adapter or a PoE++ switch. That guidance applies to the named model, not to all Lorex PTZ cameras. Use an external switch only if the selected camera’s documented requirements and your network layout call for one.
Also verify channel capacity. The X Dual-Lens PTZ uses two NVR channels—one for the fixed overview camera and another for the PTZ view. This is model-specific; consult the instructions for any other camera rather than assuming it will consume one channel or two.
