If you want a PS5 controller with remappable buttons and custom profiles you can switch during play, Sony’s DualSense Edge is the clearly documented option. You can save button assignments and other controller settings to profiles on the console. Sony’s documentation confirms those features; it does not establish that the Edge is the best-performing or best-value PS5 controller overall.

The DualSense Edge lets you change button assignments, save configurations as custom profiles, and switch profiles during gameplay. Sony also documents adjustments for stick sensitivity and dead zones, trigger settings, and vibration intensity. Button assignments and profiles
You can configure button assignments and save settings in a profile for a particular game or play style. The controller also supports profile shortcuts: hold the Fn button and press an action button to switch to a profile during gameplay. Sony explains the profile controls in its PS5 setup guidance.

Sticks, triggers, and vibration
Profiles can include more than button layouts. Sony documents options for stick sensitivity and dead zones, trigger settings, and vibration intensity. This makes the Edge relevant if you want a configuration to change how the controller responds as well as which inputs its buttons send.
Rear buttons and replaceable parts
Sony describes two sets of swappable back buttons, which can be assigned to other button inputs, and three types of stick caps. The stick modules are replaceable and sold separately; Sony’s support information says the left and right modules are interchangeable. How to create a custom profile on PS5

- Apply and save the profile, then use the Fn shortcut described in Sony’s on-screen guidance to switch profiles during play.
You do not need a Windows computer to set up profiles on PS5. Sony also supports editing profiles on Windows with the PlayStation Accessories app, but it is an additional route rather than a prerequisite.
Remapping limits and settings conflicts
- The Fn button itself cannot be reassigned.
- Circle and cross must always be assigned.
- L2 and R2 cannot be replaced with another button function.
- Game-specific control settings can conflict with a controller profile and cause unexpected inputs. If a layout behaves incorrectly, check the game’s own control configuration alongside the active controller profile.
