For making a poster on your phone, Canva, Adobe Express and Desygner are three options supported by current official product or app-store information. The available evidence does not support an honest ranking of ten apps, so this guide focuses on those three without padding the list or claiming they have been independently tested.
How to choose a poster-making app
Start with the poster’s destination. A design for social media or a message group may only need a digital image; a poster for a print shop needs the correct finished dimensions, file type and resolution. Then compare the app’s templates and editing tools with any practical needs such as brand assets, collaboration or print ordering.

- Templates and editing: Check whether the app offers a starting layout and lets you adjust text, images and other design elements.

Adobe documents installation on Android and iPhone/iPad, and its poster page offers templates and customization guidance. Adobe’s poster page gives 11 × 17, 18 × 24 and 20 × 20 inches as common size examples. For an 11 × 17-inch poster with a 1/8-inch bleed, it recommends setting up an 11.25 × 17.25-inch document. Adobe describes bleed this way: “A bleed allows color to be printed all the way to the edge of a design.” These are Adobe’s examples, not universal print specifications; follow the requirements of the printer producing your poster. Adobe says printing availability can vary by region and device.
Desygner
Desygner’s Android and iOS listings describe poster creation. Its Android listing specifically describes PNG, JPG and PDF export, high-resolution downloads, print-ready PDF and an option to order printed posters. It also describes free use and paid plans; pricing, print availability and feature parity across platforms should be checked in the current listings. Which one should you try?
- Try Canva if you use Android and want a general design app whose listing explicitly mentions poster creation and customizable templates.
- Try Adobe Express if you need documented Android and iPhone/iPad support or want to consult Adobe’s poster and print guidance.
- Try Desygner if poster creation and export choices—including the Android listing’s print-ready PDF description—are central to your workflow.
These are starting points based on stated features, not a performance ranking. Choose based on your device, required export and whether the features you need are included in the plan available to you.

- Ask the printer for its specifications. Confirm finished dimensions, bleed, accepted file formats and resolution before designing. Printer requirements take precedence over general examples.
- Set up the document to match. Use the requested finished size and add bleed only as specified. Adobe’s 11 × 17-inch example uses a 1/8-inch bleed on each edge.
- Keep important content inside the safe area. Leave room between text or logos and the trimmed edge so they are not cut off.
- Export in the requested format. A PDF may suit some print workflows, but do not assume every printer accepts the same format or settings.
- Review the exported file. Check that the text is readable at the final size, images look suitable, and the dimensions and bleed match the printer’s instructions.
For a digital-only poster, choose the dimensions and image format required by the platform where it will appear instead of using print settings by default.
