Phone-cooling apps cannot physically cool a phone. The useful ones monitor temperature or thermal status, send alerts, or help you spot demanding activity so you can take practical steps. Current store evidence supports two Android monitoring apps and one iOS app—but not ten comparable, verified picks—so this guide focuses on what those apps actually report and how to cool a hot device safely.
Do phone cooling apps really work?
They can help you monitor or respond to heat, but they are not fans or heat sinks. An app may display battery-temperature or system thermal-status data when the phone makes it available, issue an alert, or offer guidance to reduce workload. It cannot make the hardware colder simply by tapping a button.

On Android, the information available to an app varies by device. On iOS, the app discussed below says its displayed values are estimates rather than actual temperature readings. Treat app screens as monitoring aids, not universal measures of device health or proof that a phone has cooled.

| App | Platform and signal | What the listing says it offers | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cooldown: Phone Heat Monitor | Android; battery temperature and Android thermal status | Monitoring, alerts, a home-screen widget, and practical guidance. Listing updated August 22, 2026. | Sensor data varies by device. The listing says it does not physically cool the phone, force-stop apps, or lock CPU/GPU frequency. |
| Thermal Monitor – Phone Temp | Android; temperature and thermal-throttling monitoring | Floating widget and notifications. Listing updated September 20, 2026. | CPU and GPU sensor readings are available only on some devices. |
| Phone Temperature | iOS; estimates based on Apple’s thermal-level system | Dashboards and guided actions. | The listing says iOS does not provide the app with actual temperature data. Its displayed values are estimates, not measured internal temperatures. |
Store ratings are not a substitute for performance testing. The iOS listing showed 182 ratings and a 4.3/5 score when accessed; ratings can change, and they do not demonstrate that an app cools a phone.
What to look for before installing a monitor
- Identify the signal. Check whether the app reports battery temperature, system thermal status, a device sensor reading, or an estimate. These are not interchangeable.
- Check device support. Android hardware-data access differs across phones; a missing CPU or GPU reading does not necessarily mean the app is malfunctioning.
- Prefer useful alerts over a magic fix. Monitoring and notifications can help you notice heat, but do not expect an app to override the phone’s thermal limits or physically cool it.
- Review permissions and privacy details. Read the current store listing and the app’s requested permissions before installing; the features described here do not establish a particular privacy practice.
- Check the listing date and compatibility. Features and availability can change. Confirm the current listing for your platform and phone before relying on it.
Broad roundups also mention tools such as AccuBattery, GSam Battery Monitor, Samsung Device Care, and iOS Shortcuts, but those references do not establish ten current, comparable cooling-app recommendations across the two platforms. Built-in settings, battery utilities, task managers, and temperature monitors serve different purposes.

How to cool a hot iPhone or iPad
Apple says iPhone and iPad are designed for ambient use between 0°C and 35°C (32°F and 95°F). Very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life. Wireless charging, games or other processor- and graphics-intensive apps, camera use, and high-quality video streaming can make a device feel warm; Apple says it should cool after the activity ends. See Apple’s temperature guidance.

- If a temperature warning appears, turn off the device.
- Move it to a cooler place away from direct sunlight and let it cool.
- Avoid leaving it in a hot car or continuing the activity that produced the heat.
When an iPhone or iPad gets too hot, charging may slow or stop, the display may dim, mobile signal may weaken, camera functions may be disabled, or app performance may decrease. These are protective responses; a monitoring app is not a replacement for Apple’s warning instructions.

How to cool a hot Android phone
Android behavior and settings vary by manufacturer. For Pixel phones, Google says heat may reduce CPU performance and charging speed, disable camera features or connectivity, trigger low-power mode, and eventually cause a warning or shutdown. Google’s instructions are specific to Pixel; consult your phone maker’s support guidance for other Android models. See Google Pixel Help.
- If the phone is too hot, disconnect it from power if it is plugged in.
- Move it to a cooler place, out of direct sun and away from poorly ventilated spaces.
- Stop demanding activities and wait until the phone has cooled before using it again.
- For Pixel, Google also suggests lowering brightness and, where possible, preferring Wi-Fi over mobile data.
When an app is not enough
If your device repeatedly shows temperature warnings or shuts down, follow its maker’s support advice rather than repeatedly trying cleaner or “one-tap cool” apps. A clip-on or magnetic phone cooling fan is a separate category: unlike software monitoring, it adds cooling hardware. Compatibility and effectiveness depend on the specific accessory and phone, so verify those details for the product you are considering.
