The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — dark-fantasy quests and endings
Bandai Namco describes The Witcher 3 as a plot-driven open-world adventure in which player choices can unlock endings shaped by how the player plays. That makes it a particularly natural fit if you want decisions tied to quests and the larger narrative, rather than role-play freedom alone. Bandai Namco’s official game page describes the base adventure as offering “over 100 hours” of core and side-quest gameplay. This is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently tested completion time.

The Complete Edition bundles the base game with the two story expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Bandai Namco says the expansions add “an extra 50 hours of gameplay”; that, too, is a publisher estimate. Check the listing for your platform and region for current edition details.

Cyberpunk 2077 — narrative choices in Night City
Cyberpunk 2077 is the stronger match if you prefer science fiction and an urban setting. CD Projekt Red describes it as an open-world, narrative-driven RPG set in Night City, with an interactive dialogue system intended to give players narrative agency and the studio’s hallmark “choices and consequences.” Those are useful guideposts for its design, not a current statement about patches, platform support, or edition contents. Baldur’s Gate 3 — an adjacent choice-rich RPG
Baldur’s Gate 3 belongs on a broader list for players who prize role-play and agency, even if an open-world map is a firm requirement. Larian describes it as a Dungeons & Dragons RPG that lets players explore, experiment, and interact, and its official page says, “Every choice you make drives your story forward, each decision leaving your mark on the world.” The page also cites 600+ spells and actions offering interactivity; that is a feature count, not a count of consequential choices. Expect tactical, party-based role-play rather than the same kind of seamless open-world structure as the two picks above. Larian’s description supports its strong focus on player agency, but does not itself classify the game as open-world.
How to choose between them
- Choose by tone: The Witcher 3 offers dark fantasy; Cyberpunk 2077 is science fiction in a city. Baldur’s Gate 3 draws on Dungeons & Dragons.
- Choose by world structure: The Witcher and Cyberpunk are explicitly presented as open-world RPGs in Bandai Namco’s catalog. Choose Baldur’s Gate 3 if you are comfortable with a large, chaptered or area-based world instead of insisting on a conventional open-world map.
- Choose by combat preference: If you want real-time action, compare The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. If you prefer turn-based, party tactics, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the adjacent option.
- Choose by what you mean by consequences: If quest outcomes and endings are central, start with The Witcher 3. If you want narrative agency through dialogue in a science-fiction setting, consider Cyberpunk 2077. If broad role-play freedom matters more than seamless world design, consider Baldur’s Gate 3.
These are practical distinctions drawn from the games’ official descriptions, not a standardized ranking of choice depth. No comparable independent statistic establishes which has the most consequential choices.
