Reading: download the actual book or loan
Google Play Books
Download e-books in the mobile app before going offline, then check that the title is available on the device. Google’s help page specifically excludes manga chapters from offline reading. The cited instructions are for iPhone and iPad; consult the relevant in-app guidance for your device and title.

Libby
Libby’s mobile app downloads books and audiobooks by default when you borrow them over Wi-Fi. Magazines need to be downloaded manually. A loan that has not downloaded streams and therefore needs a connection; the web app always needs internet. Before leaving coverage, open the app and confirm each book or loan is marked downloaded—not merely available in your loans list or ready to stream.

Navigation: coverage and travel mode determine what works
Apple Maps on iPhone
Apple says Maps in iOS 17 or later can use selected downloaded areas offline for driving, walking, cycling, and public-transport directions. Offline maps are not available in every region, and they do not sync between devices. Download the area on each device that will need it. Google Maps on Android, iPhone, and iPad
Google Maps can provide offline driving directions only when the entire route is inside the downloaded map area. Its cited help pages say offline transit, bicycling, and walking directions are unavailable. Offline driving also lacks traffic information and alternate routes, so leave room for detours in the map area and do not rely on live conditions: Android instructions · iPhone and iPad instructions.

Downloaded areas are snapshots rather than live maps: Google says they expire and should be updated. On Android devices that support portable-storage SD cards, Google’s instructions allow map areas to be saved there. Check that your device supports this option before relying on it.
Another offline-map option
Organic Maps is listed as an offline maps and GPS app in the Apple App Store. The listing is evidence that it is an option, not a head-to-head test of accuracy, usability, or feature coverage: Organic Maps on the App Store. Confirm that its current features cover your route and needs before depending on it.

Note-taking: local access is not the same as sync
Obsidian stores notes locally, so they remain accessible offline. If you want the same notes on more than one device, you must configure a synchronization approach. Obsidian documents Obsidian Sync, cloud storage, local sync, and version control, with platform limitations for some methods. Sync does not by itself prove a file is present offline: open the notes and any attachments you need while connected, and ensure they are available on the device. Prepare before you lose connectivity
- Check storage. Books and maps occupy device space. Review available storage before downloading; Apple Maps reports a potential map file size before the download.
- Download reading material. In each reading app, open the exact book, audiobook, or magazine and confirm its downloaded status. In Libby, magazines require a manual download.
- Save enough map coverage. Include the whole route and nearby alternatives. For Google Maps, confirm the complete driving route falls within the saved area; it does not provide offline walking, cycling, or transit directions.
- Update maps. Refresh Google Maps areas before departure because downloaded areas expire. Apple’s documented settings have automatic map updates enabled by default, though that setting can be changed.
- Check notes and attachments. Open the notes you need, along with required files, on the device you will carry. If you use cloud synchronization, verify that the files are actually available locally.
- Test before leaving. While still connected, verify downloads and saved areas. If practical, briefly turn off connectivity and open the relevant book, map, and notes to check what the apps make available offline.
