Whatever playback method you choose, configure YouTube’s encoder settings and monitor stream health.

OBS documents both media sources in its Media Sources guide. For a nonstop channel, distinguish playback automation from stream operations: looping a file keeps media playing inside OBS, but the computer, OBS, network connection, encoder settings, and YouTube stream still need to work.

Loop one pre-recorded video with OBS
- In OBS, add a source to the scene and choose Media Source. Create a new source or select an existing one.
- Open the source properties and select the local video file you want to play. OBS supports media files with audio as well as video.
- Enable Loop so playback starts again when the file ends. Check the preview and audio meters before streaming.
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream key using the available connection method.
- Set the encoder output for YouTube, start the stream, and verify the incoming preview and stream health in YouTube Studio.

- Install VLC, choosing the build whose bitness matches OBS. OBS specifically notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In your OBS scene, add a VLC Video source and add the media files you want in the source’s playlist.
- Choose whether to enable Loop Playlist for repeat playback or Shuffle Playlist for randomized order.
- Preview the playlist and confirm that video and audio transition as expected. Then configure and test the YouTube stream before leaving it unattended.
VLC Video is the appropriate built-in-source route when playback involves multiple media items; it is not the same as looping one file through Media Source. OBS documents the relevant source options in its media-source documentation.

When Advanced Scene Switcher is useful
Advanced Scene Switcher is for OBS automation rather than a requirement for repeating media. Its macros can run actions when configured conditions are met; the plugin listing describes conditions and actions related to dates and times, media, streaming, and other OBS activity. Its updates page also describes a Macro Schedule tab for arranging macro execution at a specified date and time.
The OBS Forums listing shows Advanced Scene Switcher version 1.36.1, dated August 7, 2026, and states a minimum OBS Studio version of 31.1.1. Check the listing against your installed OBS build before installing, and back up your OBS settings first. See the plugin listing and its updates page.

A schedule can trigger configured OBS actions, but it cannot guarantee that a stream stays live: power, internet, OBS, the encoder, and YouTube can still fail. Use the plugin when you need its automation, not simply to make a single file loop.
Configure OBS for YouTube Live
YouTube’s encoder guide recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. The guide lists supported codecs and frame rates up to 60 fps. Choose resolution and bitrate from YouTube’s current table according to your upload capacity, then test with representative motion and audio rather than assuming a setting that works for a static image will work for your content.

- Use the stream key for the intended YouTube live stream and keep it private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to that stream.
- Set the encoder to CBR and set the keyframe interval to two seconds, within YouTube’s stated four-second maximum.
- Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate supported by YouTube and sustainable by your connection. Do not set bitrate above stable upload capacity.
- Run a preflight stream and check the YouTube Studio preview, audio, and stream-health indicators before relying on the setup.

Copyright, reused content, and nonstop playback
Having permission to upload a video does not automatically establish that a channel qualifies for monetization, and looping a recording does not make it original. Before streaming, make sure you have the rights needed for the video, music, artwork, and other included material. YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance is the place to check live-stream requirements; review YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization policies for your channel and content. Avoid treating a technically successful loop as proof that the content is cleared or eligible.

Keeping the stream running: local OBS or cloud hosting
OBS is a local workflow: playback and encoding run on the computer where OBS is open, so that machine and its connection must remain available. YouTube’s encoder setup page also lists cloud-based services for 24/7 prerecorded streaming. The available information does not establish a reliability ranking among local setups and hosted providers; compare the workflow and terms for any service you consider.
