There is no single game every Switch 2 owner is waiting for, so the best substitute depends on what you want to play in the meantime. For action and exploration, start with Donkey Kong Bananza; for solo shooting, try Splatoon Raiders; for multiplayer racing, choose Mario Kart World. RPG fans have two very different options in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, while Hollow Knight: Silksong suits players after a demanding action-platformer.
Choose by the kind of game you want
These are editorial recommendations, not an objective ranking. The picks span different genres and include both Switch 2 titles and games whose regional Switch 2 availability should be checked. Choose by play style and genre first, then confirm the edition available where you live.

For action, exploration, or a solo campaign
Donkey Kong Bananza for destruction and discovery
Pick Donkey Kong Bananza if you want an action-adventure built around breaking through environments and exploring for collectibles and secrets. It is the strongest fit here for someone who wants a substantial, self-directed adventure rather than a short competitive session. TechRadar’s “best Switch 2 title to date” description is a reviewer’s judgment, not a measured comparison.

If you want a shooter with solo progression, Splatoon Raiders offers a different direction from a multiplayer-first recommendation. TechRadar characterizes it as a solo reinvention of the series, and Nintendo Australia lists it as a Switch 2 game. The Nintendo catalog is regional, so its availability labels may not match another country’s store.

Hollow Knight: Silksong for a patient challenge

For multiplayer or a deeper RPG
Mario Kart World for racing with other people
Choose Mario Kart World when the goal is easy-to-start racing and social multiplayer rather than a long solo campaign. TechRadar calls it a standout launch title; Nintendo Australia includes it among featured Switch 2 games.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave for tactics and narrative choice
For turn-based battles and a multi-path story, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is the tactical RPG pick. TechRadar reviewer Harry Padoan, Senior Reviews Writer, described it as combining an engrossing multi-path narrative, turn-based combat, and exploration. That assessment is a critic’s view, not a guarantee that its pacing or battle system will suit every player.

If story and a deeper combat system matter more than racing or action-platforming, TechRadar recommends Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter as a story-led RPG option. Check regional Switch 2 availability before purchase; the recommendation does not establish that it is available in every market.

Check what “delayed exclusive” means in your case
The phrase does not identify a particular game. One reported example is Borderlands 4: GamesRadar reported that its Switch 2 release was delayed and that no replacement date had been given at the time of that article. That report does not establish Borderlands 4 as a Switch 2 exclusive, and delay information can change. Do not assume it is the game you are waiting for.

Nintendo Australia’s featured-games catalog lists Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, and Splatoon Raiders among Switch 2 games, with regional availability labels such as “Out now!” and future dates. Catalog labels and release status may differ elsewhere. The TechRadar guide also includes enhanced older games, so a Switch 2 recommendation is not necessarily a new Switch 2-exclusive release.

Nintendo says packaged and digital games offer the same experiences. However, it says new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 can have an MSRP different from their physical versions; this policy began with preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in May 2026. Compare the exact edition and local listing rather than assuming the formats cost the same.
Nintendo UK’s October 2026 guide lists upcoming dates for that market, including the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 collection on October 16, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort and FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE on October 22, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, and Minecraft on October 27. Those dates were upcoming in the guide; they should not be treated as already released on October 7, 2026. Nintendo says its dates are accurate at publication.
