1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a dependable starting point, update your MSI Claw through MSI Center M, then use Balanced in both MSI Center M and Windows 11. Change to an available battery-saving scenario when unplugged time matters more than frame rate; for a demanding game, raise its graphics settings gradually and keep only the changes that look good and run smoothly. There is no single configuration that is best for every Claw model and game, and MSI does not publish comparable runtime figures for every settings combination.
Start with the balanced baseline
MSI’s general recommendation is to select Balanced in MSI Center M’s User Scenario and Balanced for Windows 11 power mode. This is a sensible everyday starting point, not a promise of the highest frame rate or longest battery life. Individual games place different loads on the GPU, so the useful settings can vary from one title to another.

Before tuning, check for model-specific software and firmware updates. MSI’s gaming-settings guidance, last updated August 14, 2026, recommends opening MSI Center M, checking News and Updates, and installing applicable driver and BIOS updates. Update availability and compatibility depend on the exact Claw model; install only updates offered for your device.

Once updates are installed, set the two power controls independently: choose Balanced under MSI Center M’s User Scenario, then choose Balanced as the Windows 11 power mode. These are separate controls, so changing one does not establish that the other is set the same way. If the Windows power-mode choices or MSI Center M labels differ from these instructions, check the software version and device-specific support information rather than assuming another option is equivalent.

Choose a power profile for the session
| What matters most | Starting choice | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday balance | Balanced in MSI Center M and Windows 11 | MSI’s general baseline; tune the individual game afterward. |
| Longer unplugged play | Super Battery, or an available Endurance/Efficiency option on supported software | Lower power use can mean reduced game performance. Profile names and availability vary by model and software version. |
| A game that needs more performance | Begin with low graphics settings, then raise settings gradually | Game load differs. Check image quality and smoothness after each adjustment. |
| Manual power tuning | Adjust PL1 and PL2 in Quick Settings when Manual Mode is available | MSI documents the controls, but does not establish universal wattage values for all models and games. |
When battery life is the priority
In MSI’s walkthrough, the battery-saving option is called Super Battery. MSI warns that it may affect overall game performance. Use it when reducing power use is worth accepting a possible performance drop, rather than expecting the same frame rate as a more performance-oriented profile.
Newer MSI Center M 3.0 release notes use different names for some scenarios: Endurance Mode maps to Efficiency, AI Engine maps to Balanced, and Manual Mode offers Efficiency, Balanced, and Performance. Those notes describe the August 2026 release as available first for Claw 8 EX AI+, with releases for other models planned in phases. The labels are therefore not guaranteed to appear on every Claw. Check your installed MSI Center M version and the support page for your model before following instructions that use the newer names.
The same release notes say a 30 FPS limit issue in Endurance Mode was included in an upcoming release for Claw 8 AI+, Claw 7 AI+, and Claw A8. The wording describes a planned fix, not proof that it is already installed on a particular device. If Endurance Mode behaves unexpectedly, first check the model-specific update status and installed version instead of assuming the fix or feature is present.

Keep the balanced baseline while adjusting the game first. MSI’s guidance is to start with low graphics settings and raise them gradually while checking both image quality and FPS. This avoids treating a power-profile change as the only way to improve a game that may instead be limited by its resolution or visual settings.
When to use Manual Mode
If your version of MSI Center M provides Manual Mode, MSI’s walkthrough says Quick Settings exposes PL1 and PL2 controls for customizing system power consumption. These controls make manual tuning possible, but the available official guidance does not specify wattages that are appropriate across Claw models, games, and firmware versions. Do not copy a number from another device as though it were a universal recommendation.
Make small changes rather than moving several controls at once. Compare the same game scene before and after an adjustment, paying attention to frame-rate behavior and whether the visual difference is worthwhile. If a change makes performance worse or the result is not useful, return that control to its previous setting. This comparison helps identify the effect of the adjustment without implying that one set of PL1 or PL2 values will suit every game.
Understand MSI Center M 3.0 names before switching modes
Profile names can be confusing when instructions, screenshots, and installed software come from different MSI Center M versions. The August 2026 MSI Center M 3.0 notes describe Endurance as mapping to Efficiency and AI Engine as mapping to Balanced. Manual Mode presents Efficiency, Balanced, and Performance choices, with Performance listed as its default. These are release-specific labels, not a guarantee that every Claw has those choices or that an older scenario with a similar name behaves identically.

Use the exact choices displayed on your device as the guide. First identify your Claw model and MSI Center M version, then check the model’s support page for the applicable release and availability. If your software offers Super Battery rather than Endurance, it is safer to follow the guidance for the label you actually see than to assume the terms are interchangeable. Likewise, do not choose AI Engine expecting a different mode if the release notes map it to Balanced.
MSI’s rollout note is especially relevant if you own a Claw other than the Claw 8 EX AI+. MSI Center M 3.0 was available first for the 8 EX AI+, while the other model releases were planned in phases. A feature or fix mentioned in the notes may not yet be offered for your unit. The notes also describe the Endurance Mode 30 FPS limit fix as included in an upcoming release for Claw 8 AI+, Claw 7 AI+, and Claw A8. Treat that as a reason to verify the installed update, not as confirmation that the issue has already been resolved on every device.

Tune graphics settings without guessing
Power profiles and graphics settings solve different parts of the problem. A profile changes the system’s power behavior; a game’s resolution and visual options affect the workload the game asks the hardware to handle. Since GPU loads differ by game, MSI says there is no single graphics configuration that works best in every scenario. Treat the following sequence as a per-game tuning process, not a preset to apply blindly to your whole library.
- Pick one game and a repeatable scene. Use the same area or gameplay situation for each comparison. Look at both the image and the game’s FPS behavior rather than deciding from a brief change in a different scene.
- Begin with low graphics settings. Start from the game’s low graphics options, then raise settings gradually. This gives you a practical baseline before spending power on visual effects whose cost or benefit varies by title.
- Change one setting at a time. After each adjustment, check whether the image improvement is worth any loss in smoothness. Keeping the other options unchanged makes the trade-off easier to judge.
- Try a lower resolution if smoothness is lacking. MSI gives 1280 × 720 as an example of a lower resolution that may make gameplay smoother. It is an example, not a required setting or a guaranteed FPS result. Use it only if the gain in smoothness is worth the reduction in image detail for you.
- Use an upscaler only when your model supports it. MSI identifies XeSS on Intel-based models, XeSS 3 support on Claw 8 EX AI+, and AMD FSR on Claw A8. Check that the option is available on your device and in the game before relying on it; the named support is model-specific.
- Test Borderless Windowed when stutter is occasional. MSI suggests trying Borderless Windowed in games where it may reduce occasional stutter. It is a troubleshooting option to test in the affected game, not a universal fix or a battery-life guarantee.
For an unplugged session, settle on the graphics settings first, then decide whether a lower-power scenario is an acceptable trade. If you change both the scenario and several game options at once, it becomes harder to tell which change improved smoothness or reduced performance. Revisit a setting only when the actual game experience gives you a reason to do so.
How to compare changes fairly
A useful comparison does not require a promised runtime number. Keep the game, scene, and most settings consistent, change just one option, and observe whether the result looks better or runs more smoothly. For example, compare the same scene at the current resolution and at MSI’s illustrative 1280 × 720 setting; judge the image detail as well as the FPS behavior. Then restore or keep the change before testing another option. This makes it easier to tell whether the result came from the resolution, profile, or another adjustment.
When comparing a power scenario, use a game scene you can repeat and focus on whether the performance trade is acceptable for that game. Do not treat an FPS change in one title as a forecast for another: MSI’s guidance explicitly notes that GPU loads differ between games. Nor should a quick test be read as a guaranteed number of hours on battery. MSI’s published material does not provide matched runtime tests across models, games, and settings.
A practical setup for different situations
Balanced everyday gaming
- Install applicable updates offered in MSI Center M’s News and Updates area.
- Select Balanced under User Scenario in MSI Center M.
- Select Balanced for Windows 11 power mode.
- Start the game with low graphics settings, then raise them one at a time while checking image quality and FPS.
This configuration follows MSI’s published starting point while leaving room for game-by-game tuning. It does not predict how many hours a particular title will run on battery.
Longer play away from an outlet
- Check which power-saving scenario is actually available on your model and installed MSI Center M version.
- Select Super Battery if that is the available option, or use an available Endurance/Efficiency choice where the newer software supports it.
- Start with low graphics settings and consider reducing resolution if the game needs more smoothness.
- Compare the game’s frame-rate behavior with your normal configuration and decide whether the performance trade is acceptable.
Do not assume that the names or behavior of a scenario are identical across Claw models. MSI Center M 3.0’s rollout and labels vary, and its release notes describe some availability as phased.
Manual tuning for a specific game
- Confirm Manual Mode is present on your installed MSI Center M version.
- Open Quick Settings and identify the PL1 and PL2 controls documented by MSI.
- Adjust one control conservatively, then compare the same game scene and FPS behavior.
- Keep the change only if it helps your chosen balance; otherwise restore the earlier value.
No wattage target is established for a universal Claw setup, so this method is a controlled comparison rather than a copy-and-paste recipe.
Know what the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
MSI’s published guidance provides settings, supported feature examples, and one illustrative resolution. It does not provide comparable battery-runtime test results for each Claw model, game, and settings combination. Consequently, a claimed number of hours for a given profile would not be supported by these figures. Battery duration depends on the specific device and how it is being used; use the available controls to find a trade-off that works for your game rather than treating a runtime estimate as guaranteed.
The 1280 × 720 figure is MSI’s example of a lower resolution that may improve smoothness; it is not a measured performance result. Likewise, the presence of XeSS, XeSS 3, or FSR depends on model and game support. An option named in general guidance may not appear in every game or on every Claw.

Optional: keep a compatible USB-C charger available
A USB-C PD power bank can be useful if you need to recharge away from a wall outlet, but compatibility must be checked for the exact Claw model. MSI’s Claw 7/8 User Guide describes a 45–65 W USB-C PD adapter input for the devices covered by that manual. Separately, MSI’s Claw A1M-044MY specification sheet, changed August 19, 2026, lists a 65 W adapter and a 53 Wh battery for that specific SKU. Those specifications should not be generalized to every Claw model.
Before using a power bank, verify the exact model’s supported input, the bank’s USB-C PD output profile, and cable compatibility. A product described simply as 65 W is not established as compatible solely by that wattage. A power bank provides an optional way to recharge; it does not make an unsupported performance or runtime claim about a particular settings profile.
This accessory is a charging option, not a substitute for tuning. If you expect to play away from an outlet for longer, a compatible USB-C PD power bank can provide a way to recharge when needed, but you still need to confirm the device and bank specifications match. The Claw 7/8 manual’s 45–65 W input guidance applies to the devices covered by that guide; the 65 W adapter and 53 Wh capacity in MSI’s A1M-044MY sheet refer to that SKU only. Check the matching documentation rather than transferring one model’s figures to another.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep security settings separate from routine battery tuning
MSI says Memory Integrity and Virtual Machine Platform may reduce performance or FPS in some games. The company also warns that disabling these Windows features lowers security protection, requires a restart, and leaves them off until you re-enable them manually. That makes them a security trade-off for a possible game-performance change, not ordinary battery-saving settings. Do not disable them as a routine step to extend unplugged play; weigh the security consequence before changing them.
If you are considering these options because a particular game’s FPS is disappointing, first use the ordinary game-by-game tuning sequence: establish the Balanced baseline, lower graphics settings, then adjust them gradually. The performance effect of the Windows features may vary by game, and disabling them carries a security cost that a graphics adjustment does not. If you do change them, remember that MSI says a restart is required and that the features remain off until manually turned back on.

Use Balanced in both system controls when you want MSI’s general starting point. Move to a supported power-saving scenario when unplugged efficiency matters more, accepting that performance may fall. If an individual game is not smooth enough, tune its graphics settings from low, considering resolution and only model-supported upscaling before resorting to manual power changes. For Manual Mode, compare PL1/PL2 adjustments in the same scene instead of relying on a universal wattage preset. These choices are useful because they let you decide which trade-off matters for a specific game rather than treating battery life and performance as a single fixed setting.
The practical order is straightforward: update for your model, set both system controls to Balanced, tune one game at a time, and switch to a supported efficiency profile only when the unplugged-performance trade is acceptable. Check the software version before relying on newer names or fixes, and do not interpret MSI’s example resolution or model-specific hardware figures as universal targets. There is no official all-games setting or comparable runtime chart to replace testing the games you actually play.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best MSI Claw settings for a balance of performance and battery life?
Start with MSI’s recommended baseline: Balanced in MSI Center M’s User Scenario and Balanced for Windows 11 power mode, after installing applicable model-specific updates. Then tune each game from low graphics settings, raising options gradually while checking image quality and FPS. Switch to a supported battery-saving scenario if longer unplugged play matters more than performance.
Should I use Super Battery or Balanced on the MSI Claw?
Use Balanced as the everyday baseline. MSI’s walkthrough calls Super Battery the power-saving choice and warns it may affect overall game performance. The newer MSI Center M 3.0 notes use Endurance/Efficiency terminology on supported versions, so check your model and installed software rather than assuming every Claw shows the same label.

What do Endurance Mode and AI Engine mean in MSI Center M 3.0?
MSI’s August 2026 release notes map Endurance Mode to Efficiency and AI Engine to Balanced. Manual Mode offers Efficiency, Balanced, and Performance. The release was available first for Claw 8 EX AI+ with other model releases planned in phases, so verify availability on your own device.
What resolution should I use to improve MSI Claw performance?
MSI gives 1280 × 720 as an example of a lower resolution that may make gameplay smoother. It is not a required setting or a guaranteed FPS improvement. Compare it in the same game scene and decide whether any smoothness benefit is worth the reduction in image detail.
Can I use XeSS or FSR on every MSI Claw?
No. MSI identifies XeSS on Intel-based models, XeSS 3 support on Claw 8 EX AI+, and AMD FSR on Claw A8. Support is model-specific, and the game must also offer the feature. Confirm the option is available on your device and in the game.
What PL1 and PL2 wattages should I set?
MSI documents PL1 and PL2 controls in Quick Settings for Manual Mode, but the cited guidance does not establish universal wattage values. If Manual Mode is available, adjust conservatively and compare the same game scene after each change instead of copying values from another model.
How many hours of battery life will these settings provide?
MSI’s cited guidance does not provide comparable runtime results for each model, game, and settings combination, so it does not support a reliable number of hours. Test the games and profiles you use, and treat any estimate as device- and workload-specific.
Is it safe to disable Memory Integrity or Virtual Machine Platform for more FPS?
MSI says these features may reduce performance or FPS in some games, but also warns that disabling them lowers Windows security protection, requires a restart, and leaves them off until you manually re-enable them. This is an optional security trade-off, not a routine battery-saving step.
Can I use a 65 W USB-C PD power bank with my MSI Claw?
Check the exact model’s supported input, the power bank’s USB-C PD output profile, and cable compatibility first. MSI’s Claw 7/8 manual covers a 45–65 W USB-C PD adapter input, while its A1M-044MY specification sheet lists a 65 W adapter for that SKU. Those figures do not establish compatibility for every Claw or every bank.
The Bottom Line
For a balanced starting point, update the Claw and select Balanced in both MSI Center M and Windows 11. Tune graphics per game, then use a supported efficiency profile when unplugged time matters more than frame rate. Check model-specific software and accessory compatibility; MSI does not publish a universal wattage setting or comparable runtime figure for every Claw configuration.
