For the quickest phone camera stream or screen cast, start with the YouTube app if your channel meets YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements. Choose Streamlabs Mobile for documented production controls such as scenes and screen capture, PRISM Live Studio for overlays and effects, or Larix Broadcaster if you specifically need encoder protocol options. These are feature-based fits, not a ranking from hands-on tests.
Best mobile streaming app for each use
| App | Best fit | What the available documentation says |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube app | Quick camera broadcasts and phone screen casts | Native mobile streaming, scheduling, stream archives, and Practice Mode, which YouTube says is rolling out to creators. |
| Streamlabs Mobile | Scenes, alerts, overlays, screen capture, and switching platforms | Streamlabs documents scenes, configurable output and audio settings, camera controls, screen capture, and YouTube support. It describes simultaneous multistreaming as an Ultra subscription feature. |
| PRISM Live Studio | IRL or gaming streams with visual effects | YouTube’s encoder-app listing describes overlays, chroma key, decoration, and beauty effects. Check the current app listing for feature availability on your device and plan. |
| Larix Broadcaster | Encoder-oriented workflows where protocol options matter | YouTube lists support for SRT, RTMP, NDI, WebRTC, and Zixi. Many phone-only creators may not need this flexibility. |
The YouTube app is the simplest direct path when its eligibility rules work for you. Third-party apps can add production controls, but their feature availability can vary by operating system, device, app version, account, and plan. The cited documentation does not establish that any app is more stable, uses less battery, has lower latency, or produces better output than the others.

Check YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements
YouTube’s mobile help page lists these requirements: at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, live streaming enabled, and no live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days. Initial activation may take up to 24 hours. The same page lists Android 8.0+ and iOS 8+ as device requirements; confirm the current rules on YouTube’s setup page before going live.

- Channels with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers may have mobile live viewers limited, and their stream archives may be private by default.
- After a channel passes 1,000 subscribers, YouTube says removing the audience limit can take several weeks.

Start a live stream in the YouTube app
- Open the YouTube app and tap Create, then Live.
- Set the stream details and audience settings in the app. If you want a later start, use the scheduling option.
- Choose a camera broadcast or phone screen cast, then review what will be visible or audible before starting.
- When the stream is over, end it in the app. YouTube creates an archive; you can edit or delete it.
YouTube also documents a private Practice Mode for rehearsing. It is rolling out, so it may not be available on every account yet. The mobile workflow and options are described in YouTube’s mobile live guide.
When a third-party streaming app makes sense
Choose Streamlabs Mobile for production controls
Streamlabs documents scenes, configurable output and audio settings, camera controls, and screen capture. Its product page lists YouTube among supported platforms and describes simultaneous multistreaming as part of its Ultra subscription. Check the current app and plan details for your operating system before relying on a particular feature. See the Streamlabs mobile guide and Streamlabs Mobile page.

Choose PRISM Live Studio for visual effects
YouTube describes PRISM as an iOS and Android app optimized for IRL and gaming, with overlays and effects including chroma key, decoration, and beauty effects. That is a vendor/platform feature description, not a comparison test; check the current app for the controls available to your device and account.
Choose Larix Broadcaster only if you need protocol flexibility
YouTube’s encoder-app list describes Larix Broadcaster as supporting SRT, RTMP, NDI, WebRTC, and Zixi. If you simply want to go live from a phone to YouTube, those protocol choices may add complexity without helping your workflow. YouTube’s listing is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Improve audio and prepare your phone
An external microphone is optional, not a prerequisite. YouTube notes that many streamers use an external microphone, webcam, and headphones in advanced setups. For a phone stream, first confirm that the microphone’s connector works with your phone and that the chosen app can select the external audio input. A wireless lavalier microphone for smartphone can be an audio upgrade, but the reviewed YouTube guidance does not endorse a specific model.
- For a stationary broadcast, a phone mount can help keep framing steady; it is optional.
- Before a public stream, check the selected camera, microphone input, screen-cast privacy, and stream details in the app.
- Follow YouTube’s live-stream policies and copyright rules. The mobile app or an encoder does not grant rights to music, video, or other material you do not own or have permission to use. See YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-stream restrictions.
When the stream should keep running without your phone
For a prerecorded video or playlist that should loop on YouTube 24/7, the phone apps above are not the same kind of solution: they are for broadcasting from a mobile device. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops it from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Learn more at StreamNeo.
