The best Loom alternative depends on what you need after you press Record. Choose Tella for polished demos with editing and hosted sharing, Cap for open-source recording and self-hosting, OBS Studio for free local capture and production control, ScreenPal for budget-friendly timeline editing, Vidyard for sales video workflows, Descript for transcript-based editing, or Screen Studio for polished Mac demos. These are use-case matches drawn from vendor-authored comparison pages, not independent test results.
How to choose a Loom alternative
Loom combines recording with hosted sharing and asynchronous collaboration. Alternatives may excel at one part of that workflow while leaving other parts to you. Before switching, decide whether you value a fast shareable link, editing and cleanup, viewer analytics, team collaboration, local files, self-hosting, or detailed capture controls most.

- Fast record-and-share: favor a hosted recorder with sharing and collaboration built in.
- Polished demos: look for zoom, layout, cursor, voice, and editing tools.
- Privacy and control: consider local recording, self-hosting, and ownership of files.
- Production flexibility: use a recorder that exposes scenes, sources, audio, and encoding settings.
- Migration: check whether videos, folders, comments, permissions, analytics, ownership, and old links actually transfer.
A hosted asynchronous recorder and a local production recorder are not direct substitutes: the latter may give you greater capture control but leave hosting, editing, and collaboration to arrange separately.

Cap: open-source recording and self-hosting
Cap is positioned for people who want local recording, self-hosting, and data ownership. The comparison pages describe a permanent free tier for local recording and Pro features for cloud sharing and collaboration. They also describe Cap as MIT-licensed and self-hostable with Docker Compose, and report a $8.16 per user per month annual Pro price in Zight’s comparison. Treat these as vendor-comparison descriptions rather than guarantees: verify Cap’s current license, pricing, feature limits, and migration scope before building a workflow around them.
OBS Studio: local recording and production control
OBS Studio is a free, open-source option for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its scenes, sources, filters, audio mixing, and encoding controls make it suitable when you want to build and control a recording setup locally. It does not provide Loom-like hosted share links, analytics, or an integrated asynchronous collaboration workflow, so plan separately for editing, file hosting, and distribution.
ScreenPal: timeline editing at a budget-conscious price
ScreenPal is presented as a budget-oriented choice when timeline editing matters. Zight’s 2026 guide reports a maximum 15-minute recording on the free recorder and cites Solo Deluxe at $4 per month paid annually before promotions. The guide also advises checking the live plan page; limits, promotions, and packaging can change.
Rank #2
Vidyard: sales video and engagement
Vidyard is aimed at sales prospecting, personalized videos, viewer engagement, and CRM workflows. Zight’s 2026 comparison reports a free allowance of five recorded videos per month, up to 30 minutes each. Confirm current limits and self-serve pricing with Vidyard; the reported allowance is not a permanent guarantee.
Descript: edit by working with the transcript
Descript suits creators who want to edit recordings through their transcripts. That transcript-first approach can be useful when revising spoken material is central to the task, but may be more involved than recording a short update and sending the link.
Screen Studio: polished demos on Mac
Screen Studio is a Mac-only option for polished screen demonstrations, with animated zooms and smooth cursor effects described by the comparison pages. Its platform limitation and more limited team workflow make it a narrower choice than a cross-platform collaborative recorder.

Loom can remain a sensible option for quick internal updates, particularly for organizations already using Atlassian tools. One Tella comparison dated September 1, 2026 reports Loom Starter limits of 25 videos per person and five minutes per recording. Treat those limits as a dated third-party report and confirm them on Loom’s live plan page. Comparison sources conflict on paid Loom pricing, so no current paid price is stated here.

Do not assume that switching tools preserves the whole workflow. Zight says migration may not transfer comments, analytics, permissions, folders, links, or ownership history. Tella describes a tool for exporting a Loom library, including private videos and folders, to MP4 or Tella. These are vendor descriptions, and transfer results can depend on the account, plan, and data involved.

Where StreamNeo fits—and where it does not
StreamNeo is not a Loom alternative or a screen recorder. It is a separate service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos; it does not record your screen or stream from a camera. If that is a separate need, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video or playlist from the cloud, so your computer does not need to stay on. Its feature set and pricing are unrelated to choosing an asynchronous screen recorder.
Recommended Free Tools
To start a YouTube stream with StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. For Loom replacement decisions, choose among the screen-recording tools above based on your actual capture, editing, sharing, and migration needs.
