Choose a cage by the optics and mounts you already use
Match lens plates and filters
If you own add-on lenses or filters, check the cage’s optical mount before buying. Beastcage 17’s M37, M17, and Moment T-Bayonet plates are distinct interfaces; its standard-filter support requires an optional 58 mm mount. SmallRig’s iPhone 18 Pro kit uses the SR-MicroSlide ecosystem and offers quick-release optical expansion. Check the attachment standard for each accessory
Mounting points that look similar may require different hardware. Beastgrip lists cold shoes, multiple 1/4-inch-20 threaded points with ARRI locating-pin slots, and handle interfaces supporting NATO-style or ARRI rosette mounts. Moment’s guide describes NATO compatibility on the sides and top, an Arca base, four cold shoes, and 1/4-inch-20 threads. Pick the rig style that fits the way you shoot
Model-specific cage: SmallRig or Beastgrip
A dedicated cage makes sense when secure, repeatable fit and accessory mounting are the priority. SmallRig’s listed H11 quick-release system is intended for compatible handles and tripods, while its open back is designed to accommodate phone coolers and MagSafe-compatible accessories. Beastgrip offers multiple lens-plate choices and a filter-mount option, but its case and direct MagSafe limitations may rule it out for some setups. Treat each compatibility claim as model-specific and confirm that your own accessories fit the relevant system.

Modular cage: Moment SuperCage
Moment’s guide, updated July 28, 2026, presents SuperCage as an open-rail system for building a rig around accessories such as a handle, monitor, and wireless audio. Its documented mount mix and integrated USB-C hub may suit a setup that combines several pieces of gear. Moment’s author also describes portrait and landscape use, handheld operation, tripod mounting, gimbal use, and Apple ProRes recording. Universal handheld rig: FeiyuTech Phone Rig Pro
Phone Rig Pro is a different category from a fitted cage: it uses a universal clamp and emphasizes handheld operation alongside power, cooling, and storage-related features. Digital Camera World’s March 10, 2026 review lists compatibility with iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, 16 Pro/Pro Max, and 17 Pro/Pro Max. In the reviewer’s use, the supplied mini tripod could not tilt, and the reviewer could not rotate a large phone to vertical orientation. Budget for the complete working setup
A cage rarely completes a filmmaking rig on its own. List the pieces your filming workflow needs, then check whether they are included or must be added separately:
- Handling: one or two handles, plus the required NATO, rosette, or other compatible interface.
- Support: tripod or gimbal attachment, including any quick-release plate or adapter needed to connect it.

- Optics: the correct lens plate and any filter mount required by the chosen cage.
- Power, storage, and cables: check whether these are supplied, integrated, or separate purchases, and whether cables can reach without obstructing operation.
