- Choose the Google Pixel 11 Pro XL if you want a similarly large Android phone with Google software. AT&T lists a 6.8-inch display and compares it directly with the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
- Consider the iPhone 18 Pro if you want iOS and your constraint is specific to the Pro Max model or its size. AT&T lists a 6.3-inch display; make sure the issue you face does not apply to the Pro as well.
These are carrier-listed candidates, not a guarantee that every retail variant will activate with every feature. Check the precise model and your situation with AT&T before paying.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the closest size match in this shortlist: AT&T lists a 6.9-inch display, the same diagonal size it lists for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. AT&T specifies a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. Those are vendor-listed specifications, not independent performance-test results. It runs Android rather than iOS, so consider whether you are comfortable changing platforms as well as phones.
Google Pixel 11 Pro XL
The Pixel 11 Pro XL is slightly smaller by listed screen diagonal, at 6.8 inches. AT&T describes its display as Super Actua and lists Google Tensor G6 with Titan M3. It is another Android option; choose it if Google’s software environment suits you better than Samsung’s. The available specifications do not establish which phone has better camera quality, battery life, or real-world performance.

Will an alternative work on AT&T?
AT&T’s comparison lists 5G+ bands for the compared phones and marks HD Voice and Wi-Fi Calling as supported. AT&T’s approved-device document says, “These phones are tested and approved for the AT&T network.” It also says some devices are supported only as AT&T versions or authorized open-market versions.

That distinction matters if you are buying an unlocked phone outside AT&T: matching network bands alone does not guarantee every carrier feature or successful provisioning. Before ordering, ask AT&T to confirm the exact model or variant—not just the phone family—and whether it will support the services you need.

If you want to stay with iOS
The iPhone 18 Pro is the conditional alternative for someone who wants iOS but cannot or does not want to use the Pro Max specifically. AT&T lists it at 6.3 inches and compares it with the Pixel 11 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 on its smaller-phone comparison page. If your problem involves cellular service, account activation, or another issue that could affect the iPhone 18 Pro too, confirm the cause with AT&T or Apple before switching models.
Apple says US iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models are eSIM-only and names AT&T among carriers that support eSIM. If you are moving a line to another phone or changing platforms, check AT&T’s activation and eSIM-transfer requirements for your account; the available information does not establish that every transfer happens automatically. What to do if your reason is an AT&T service problem
Individual users have reported iPhone 18 Pro Max cellular-service complaints on AT&T, and Tom’s Guide has reported on complaints. Those reports do not establish how widespread the problem is, identify a confirmed cause, show that all units are affected, or prove that another phone will avoid it. They are not an official notice of a carrier-wide incident.
If you are changing phones because of a connection problem, contact AT&T support and describe the symptoms, location, and timing before assuming the handset is the cause. If you still choose another phone, check its exact model with AT&T and review the activation requirements before moving your line.

How to decide before you buy
- Identify the constraint. Decide whether you need to avoid the Pro Max size, stay on iOS, change platforms, or resolve a service or account issue. The answer determines whether the iPhone 18 Pro is viable.
- Pick the right size class. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is listed at 6.9 inches, the Pixel 11 Pro XL at 6.8 inches, and the iPhone 18 Pro at 6.3 inches.
- Verify the variant with AT&T. Ask about the exact model, network approval, and any carrier features you rely on—especially if the phone is unlocked or sold outside AT&T.
- Compare the full cost. Treat the published starting retail price separately from installments or promotions. Confirm eligibility, trade-in value, bill-credit duration, and other offer conditions for your account.
- Check the line-transfer process. If moving to an eSIM-only US iPhone or switching between iOS and Android, confirm activation steps with AT&T rather than assuming the transfer is automatic.
