For basic product stock, start with WooCommerce’s built-in stock settings. For suppliers, purchase orders, inbound inventory or stock locations, consider ATUM. For spreadsheet-style bulk stock editing, compare Smart Manager and WPC Smart Inventory Manager. These options are primarily WooCommerce tools; they are not a general-purpose answer for tracking office equipment or a non-commerce catalog.
Choose by workflow, not by plugin ranking
“Inventory management plugins for WordPress” usually means tools that extend WooCommerce stock management. Before adding one, identify the gap in your current process: do you need to track quantities, receive goods against purchase orders, manage suppliers or locations, or edit many products at once? WooCommerce itself documents stock-management settings for stores with straightforward product inventory needs: WooCommerce product settings.
The feature descriptions below come from official product listings and documentation, not hands-on testing. They establish what the vendors say their products include, not which plugin is easiest, fastest, most reliable or best value.
Compare the options
| Option | Best-fit workflow | Documented capabilities | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| WooCommerce stock settings | Basic stock control for products in a WooCommerce store | WooCommerce documents its built-in product stock settings. See the official guide. | Evaluate whether the built-in workflow covers your needs before adding a plugin. |
| ATUM | Supplier, purchasing, receiving and location oversight | The WordPress.org listing describes Stock Central, inventory statistics and logs, supplier records, purchase orders, inbound stock and a location hierarchy. ATUM listing | Check which needed capabilities are in the free plugin and which require premium add-ons. |
| Smart Manager | Spreadsheet-style admin editing across products and variations | The listing describes a spreadsheet-style dashboard for products, variations, inventory and other store records. Lite offers limited inline edits; Pro adds batch editing. The listing displayed Pro at $199/year when reviewed. Smart Manager listing | Confirm current price and edition limits. The listing’s version 8.96.0 changelog, dated 24 August 2026, says it added compatibility with WordPress 7.1 and WooCommerce 11.0.1; this is not a blanket guarantee for every installation. |
| WPC Smart Inventory Manager | Centralized stock-table work, bulk actions or barcode/GTIN entry | The listing documents a stock table, bulk actions, stock history, alerts, CSV export and a barcode (GTIN) field. WPC Smart Inventory Manager listing | A barcode field does not establish that a particular scanner works with the plugin or your device. |
When WooCommerce’s built-in stock management is enough
If you mainly need to maintain product quantities in one WooCommerce store, first check the controls WooCommerce documents in its product settings guide. Adding another inventory plugin is worthwhile only if it solves a specific gap, such as receiving stock against purchase orders or making repeated bulk changes less cumbersome.

When to shortlist ATUM
ATUM is the option to investigate when inventory work extends beyond changing a product’s quantity. Its WordPress.org listing describes Stock Central, stock statistics and logs, supplier records, purchase orders, inbound stock and location hierarchy: ATUM on WordPress.org.
Map each required task to the edition before adopting it. The listing also describes premium add-ons, so do not assume every named capability is included in the free plugin. If you rely on a history of stock changes, confirm that its logs capture the events and level of detail your team needs.
Rank #2
When Smart Manager fits bulk stock editing
Smart Manager is aimed at staff who want an admin spreadsheet for editing store records rather than opening products one at a time. Its listing describes support for products, variations and inventory, among other records. It distinguishes limited inline edits in Lite from batch editing in Pro: Smart Manager on WordPress.org.
The listing displayed Smart Manager Pro at $199 per year when reviewed; treat that as a snapshot, not a guaranteed current price. Its changelog excerpt identifies version 8.96.0 on 24 August 2026 and says that release added WordPress 7.1 and WooCommerce 11.0.1 compatibility. Check the live listing and your own environment before relying on either the price or compatibility note.

When to consider WPC Smart Inventory Manager
WPC Smart Inventory Manager is worth comparing if a centralized stock table, bulk actions, stock history, alerts or CSV export match your routine. Its listing also documents a barcode/GTIN field: WPC Smart Inventory Manager on WordPress.org. That field may suit a barcode-entry process, but the listing does not validate a specific scanner. If you plan to scan codes, check that your chosen scanner works with your device and plugin setup.
Check before installing or editing stock
- Confirm compatibility: Check the plugin’s current listing and the vendor’s documentation against your WordPress, WooCommerce and PHP versions, as well as extensions that affect products, variations or stock.
- Verify edition boundaries: Identify which required features are included in the free plugin and which need a paid add-on or Pro plan. Recheck live prices and limits; directory and vendor pages can change.
- Test the actual workflow: In a staging site, try a representative product, variation and stock change. Check whether the workflow preserves the information your staff need, including change history or exports.
- Back up before consequential bulk edits: A mistaken mass quantity change can affect many product records. Make a recoverable backup and test the edit on a small, controlled set first.
- Check integrations separately: If you sell through multiple channels or hold stock across physical locations, verify that the specific plugin and edition synchronize the channels and locations you use. A location hierarchy or stock table alone does not establish channel synchronization.
WordPress.org tags and directory metadata can help find candidates, but they are not quality rankings. Installation counts, tested-version information, ratings and compatibility details change; compare the current listing rather than treating directory figures as a durable measure of quality.
Rank #4
Which one should you choose?
- Use WooCommerce’s built-in settings as your starting point when you need straightforward product stock control.
- Shortlist ATUM when supplier management, purchase orders, inbound stock, logs or location hierarchy are central to the work, and verify edition requirements.
- Compare Smart Manager when staff need spreadsheet-style editing and, if necessary, Pro batch edits.
- Consider WPC Smart Inventory Manager when its centralized table, history, alerts, CSV export or barcode/GTIN field fits your process.
For non-commerce asset tracking or a standalone catalog, these WooCommerce-focused candidates may not fit: the documented feature sets concern WooCommerce products and store inventory, not a general asset-management workflow.
