For a new site on a tight budget, Hostinger is a reasonable place to start; for a growing WordPress business that needs staging and on-demand backups, compare SiteGround GrowBig; and for an income-dependent store considering cloud VPS, ScalaHosting is a shortlist candidate. These are use-case recommendations, not a controlled ranking of speed or uptime. The key buying check is the total you pay upfront and the renewal bill—not just the advertised monthly equivalent.
Quick picks by website and owner
| Best fit | Shortlist | Why it may fit | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget-conscious first site | Hostinger Premium | Three websites, 20 GB SSD storage and weekly backups on the US plan reviewed. | The displayed $2.99/month equivalent requires paying $143.52 for 48 months upfront; renewal is $10.99/month. |
| Growing WordPress small business | SiteGround GrowBig | Includes staging and on-demand backups, with unlimited websites and 50 GB storage on the reviewed tier. | The $4.99/month introductory rate is for a 12-month prepaid term; renewal is $29.99/month. |
| Store evaluating cloud VPS | ScalaHosting cloud VPS | TechRadar named ScalaHosting its ecommerce pick in its September 2026 roundup. | That is an editorial recommendation, not a guarantee. Compare server resources, support, migration needs and renewal cost for your store. |
| Beginner seeking WordPress guidance | Bluehost | TechRadar describes it as a beginner-focused WordPress option; Bluehost states that hosting has a 30-day refund window, subject to terms. | Domain charges may be deducted, the included domain is subject to term and eligibility conditions, and the hosting refund terms do not establish that every add-on is refundable. |
TechRadar’s picks are editorial judgments, and Hostinger’s own comparison says fit depends on site type, traffic and budget. Neither provides a universal answer for every site’s workload. The figures below are provider-specific US plan offers accessed October 5, 2026; prices and promotions can vary by location and checkout.

Compare the actual plan, not only the brand
The distinctions between tiers often matter more than a provider’s headline label. This table captures the US offers and features shown on the providers’ official pages when accessed October 5, 2026. Monthly equivalents are tied to prepaid terms, not month-to-month rates.

|---|---|---|---|
| Hostinger Premium | $2.99/month equivalent; $143.52 upfront for 48 months | $10.99/month | Three websites, 20 GB SSD, weekly backups; free domain for one year |
| Hostinger Unlimited | $3.99/month equivalent; $191.52 upfront for 48 months | $16.99/month | Unlimited websites, 50 GB NVMe, daily backups; unlimited features subject to Hostinger’s Fair Usage Policy |
| Hostinger Cloud Startup | $7.99/month equivalent; $383.52 upfront for 48 months | $25.99/month | Unlimited websites, 100 GB NVMe, daily and on-demand backups |
| SiteGround WordPress StartUp | $2.99/month for 12 months prepaid | $17.99/month | One website, 10 GB storage, backups and migration listed |
| SiteGround WordPress GrowBig | $4.99/month for 12 months prepaid | $29.99/month | Unlimited websites, 50 GB storage, on-demand backups and staging |

How to choose the right hosting type
Shared hosting for a modest first site
Shared hosting can suit a first website with modest needs when low initial cost and a guided setup matter more than server-level control. Confirm the website and storage allowances on the exact tier, and check whether features advertised as unlimited are governed by a fair-use policy.
Managed WordPress for less hands-on setup
Managed WordPress plans are built around the platform and may bundle setup or maintenance conveniences. Compare the actual WordPress tools included—such as backups, staging and support—rather than assuming every plan bearing the label offers the same service.
Rank #2
Cloud or VPS when control and resources matter
Cloud or VPS hosting can offer more control or resources, but it may require more technical work. Before moving a business or store, establish the server resources included, who handles configuration and support, how migration will work, and what the renewal costs. A provider’s category recommendation alone does not establish that a particular configuration fits your workload.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

What to verify before checkout
- Calculate the commitment. Write down the prepaid total, the length of the initial term, and the renewal price. A monthly equivalent for a long prepayment is not a month-to-month offer.
- Check practical limits. Confirm website count, storage type and capacity, traffic or resource terms, and any fair-use conditions attached to “unlimited” features.
- Inspect recovery and transfer tools. Check backup frequency, whether restores are available on demand, staging availability, and migration support on the exact plan.
- Match support and control to your skills. A beginner may value guided WordPress help; a developer may need SSH, WP-CLI, Git, staging or server configuration access. Verify the features rather than relying on a broad product description.
- Read the exclusions. Confirm domain, email, refund and add-on terms. A hosting refund window does not automatically make domains or every extra service refundable.
How much should performance claims influence your choice?
Provider uptime statements and editorial rankings are not the same as a neutral, controlled comparison of real-world results. The sources reviewed for this comparison do not establish a consistent cross-provider dataset that supports ranking these hosts by actual speed or uptime. Treat TechRadar’s categories as a shortlist signal, and evaluate the plan, support and recovery arrangements against your own needs rather than treating a general ranking as a performance guarantee.

Bluehost’s official managed WordPress page describes an uptime SLA; that is Bluehost’s own service claim, not an observed measurement across providers. Check the SLA’s terms directly if it matters to your decision.
