Best HomeKit-Compatible Smart-Home Devices to Buy

A practical shortlist of HomeKit-compatible smart-home devices, organized by what you want to automate, with checks for Matter features and setup requirements.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The right HomeKit-compatible device depends on what you want Apple Home to do: automate lighting, switch an appliance, monitor a door, manage a lock, or control temperature. Apple’s compatibility storefront lists options across these categories, including products from Nanoleaf, Philips Hue, Eve, Aqara, Level, Yale, Logitech, and ecobee.

This is a compatibility-based shortlist, not a lab-tested ranking: the available product listings establish that these devices appear in Apple’s catalog, but do not establish which performs best, what each currently costs, or which offers the best value. Use the picks below as models to investigate, then confirm the exact variant and its setup requirements before buying.

Which HomeKit-compatible device should you buy?

Start with the task you want to automate. Apple’s catalog covers the main categories below; the named products are starting points, not comparative winners.

Need Products listed by Apple What to verify before buying
Smart lighting Nanoleaf Essentials Matter A19 bulb and Matter lightstrip; Philips Hue starter kit and Bridge Pro Whether the exact bulb, lightstrip, or kit fits your fixtures and supports the Home controls you want; whether a bridge is part of the setup.
Switch an outlet or appliance Eve Energy Matter smart plug Whether the plug fits the outlet and works with the appliance you intend to control. Apple’s accessory directory lists Eve Energy in the outlet category.
Monitor doors, motion, or presence Eve contact and motion sensors; Aqara FP300 presence sensor Which events and status the exact model exposes in Apple Home, and whether it needs a hub or other setup component.
Secure an entry Aqara U400; Level and Yale locks Door and lock compatibility, installation constraints, supported Home features, and any required hub or account.
View a camera feed Eve cameras; Aqara G100 and G5 Pro cameras; Logitech Circle View What the exact model exposes in Apple Home, plus its network, account, privacy, and installation requirements.
Control heating or cooling ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium Whether it is compatible with your existing heating and cooling system and what setup or installation is required.
Automate watering outdoors Apple’s catalog includes an outdoor-watering category The available compatible model in your region and its installation and connection requirements; the listed material does not establish a named product for this category.

These listings are a way to narrow the search, not proof of comparative reliability, speed, image quality, or long-term support. Apple’s accessory directory also identifies the Philips Hue Bridge as supporting Hue bulbs, light fittings, switches, and sensors; do not assume that relationship applies to products from other manufacturers.

How Matter fits into Apple Home

Apple says iOS 16.1 and later includes support for Matter, a connectivity standard intended to let a wide range of accessories work across platforms. Apple says users can add a Matter accessory through the Home app or a HomeKit-based app; once added, Matter accessories are supported in Home, Siri, Control Center, and third-party HomeKit apps.

That platform support does not mean every product exposes identical features in every app or ecosystem. Before purchase, check the exact model’s feature list and manufacturer setup instructions rather than treating the Matter label alone as a promise of feature parity.

How to choose among the shortlist

  1. Choose the job first. Decide whether you need lighting, outlet control, security monitoring, a lock, climate control, or another listed category.
  2. Match the exact model to your home. Check regional model numbers, physical fit, and installation conditions in the manufacturer’s current documentation.
  3. Map the complete setup. Find out whether the product needs a bridge, hub, Thread border router, Apple home hub, manufacturer account, or cloud connection for the functions you expect.
  4. Confirm Apple Home behavior. Verify the exact controls and status available in Home, rather than assuming that all features from the manufacturer’s app will appear there.
  5. Compare complete costs and support terms. Include necessary setup hardware and check current price, availability, warranty, and support information directly with the seller and manufacturer.

Apple’s listings can establish compatibility and help identify candidates. They do not establish current prices or a best-performing device, so make the final choice using the exact model’s documented features and requirements.
