For the most direct way to play an existing Xbox library on a handheld, consider the ROG Xbox Ally or ROG Xbox Ally X. These Windows handheld PCs can install supported PC games, while console games can be streamed through Xbox Remote Play or Xbox Cloud Gaming. A console purchase does not automatically make every game installable on a handheld: access depends on the game, your license, device, region, and—in streaming cases—your connection and service eligibility.
Which handheld should you choose?
The right choice depends first on how you want to access your games. The Ally models offer the clearest combination of local Windows PC gaming and Xbox streaming. Other devices in Xbox’s December 2025 cloud-gaming guide are relevant primarily for streaming, not as equivalent native Xbox-library handhelds.

| Handheld | What the cited Xbox sources establish | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| ROG Xbox Ally X | Windows handheld PC supporting native compatible PC games, Remote Play, and Cloud Gaming. Xbox announced 1 TB storage, 24 GB RAM, and an 80 Wh battery in August 2025; check the current SKU and market. | Players prioritizing the higher-capacity, higher-performance option in the Ally lineup. The specifications are manufacturer announcements, not independent performance or battery tests. |
| ROG Xbox Ally | Windows handheld PC with the same core access routes: supported PC installs, Remote Play, and Cloud Gaming. Xbox positions it as the value-oriented sibling. | Players who want the Ally approach without assuming it is the better value at current local prices. |
| Logitech G Cloud | Listed by Xbox as a supported Cloud Gaming handheld in December 2025. | Cloud-first players who confirm current app and service support for their intended use. |
| Steam Deck | Xbox described Cloud Gaming support as beta in December 2025. | People already interested in the Steam Deck ecosystem who accept setup and beta caveats; this is not the same as the Ally’s Windows handheld flow. |
| Razer Edge | Listed by Xbox as a supported Cloud Gaming handheld in December 2025. | Cloud-first players; the cited guide does not establish a comparative Remote Play experience. |
The official sources cited here do not provide current, region-specific prices or independent side-by-side testing for battery life, latency, comfort, performance, or value. That makes a definitive overall ranking unjustified. Xbox’s August 2025 launch announcement describes the Ally X hardware: ROG Xbox Ally launch details. How can you play games from your Xbox library?
There are three distinct routes: install a compatible PC version, stream from your own console, or stream from Xbox’s cloud service. They have different license and connection requirements, so check the specific game rather than assuming your console library transfers wholesale.

Install a supported PC version
The Ally devices run Windows 11 and can run compatible Windows PC games, including titles from Xbox’s PC storefront and other PC storefronts. A console license alone does not necessarily include a Windows PC version. Some local PC installs may work offline if the game supports offline play; check the individual title’s requirements.
Use Xbox Play Anywhere
For eligible games, Play Anywhere allows one purchase to be used across Xbox console and PC, with progress and achievements shared. Xbox said in June 2025 that more than 1,000 games were supported at that time; this is a dated Xbox figure, and eligibility remains title-specific. Check the game’s listing for Play Anywhere before relying on a console purchase for PC access. Xbox’s announcement explains the program and Ally access routes: Xbox’s June 2025 handheld announcement.
Stream from your own Xbox with Remote Play
Remote Play streams a game installed on your Xbox console to the handheld; it does not install the console game on the handheld. ASUS says Remote features must be enabled and the console must be on or in Sleep mode. Internet access and supported games and devices are also required. ASUS’s support page says online console multiplayer, including through Remote Play, requires one of the membership tiers named on that page; check its current terms and Xbox membership requirements for your account and region: ROG Xbox Ally support.

Stream through Xbox Cloud Gaming
Cloud Gaming streams from Microsoft’s service rather than your own console. Availability depends on the selected game, supported device, region, and qualifying subscription. Xbox’s October 2025 update said members of Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential could stream from a collection of more than 1,000 owned games on supported devices at that time. The eligible collection and terms can change, so check current Xbox availability before subscribing or relying on a particular owned title. Xbox’s December 2025 guide covers supported handhelds and getting started: Getting started with Xbox Cloud Gaming.
What do the handheld compatibility labels mean?
Xbox’s Handheld Compatibility program offers game-specific guidance, not a guarantee that every title will work equally well on every setup. Its labels distinguish usability from expected performance.
- Handheld Optimized: Xbox’s label for games suited to handheld use.
- Mostly Compatible: The game is generally usable, but may have limitations or require adjustments.
- Unsupported: Xbox identifies the title as not supported for the program.
- Not tested: This is not the same as Unsupported; the status means Xbox has not established a tested compatibility result.
- Windows Performance Fit: A separate expected-performance guide. Xbox says “should play well” typically means 30 FPS or better on the device, while “should play great” is expected around 60 FPS or better. These are program expectations, not measured guarantees for every player or configuration.
Check the game’s current entry before buying or installing. Xbox’s live Handheld Compatibility page describes the labels and listings.

What connection and offline limits should you plan for?
- Cloud Gaming: Xbox’s December 2025 guide recommends at least 20 Mbps for a stable cloud connection. That is a speed recommendation, not a promise of smooth play; network stability and latency also matter. Cloud streaming requires an internet connection.
- Remote Play: Requires internet and a correctly configured console that is on or in Sleep mode. ASUS also specifies enabling the console’s Remote features.
- Local PC games: Downloaded games may be playable offline when the particular title supports offline play. A handheld and game must both support the intended setup.
Xbox’s December 2025 guide also says Game Pass titles can be downloaded to a preferred console, PC, or handheld for offline play, but that does not guarantee offline support for every game-and-device combination. See the Xbox Cloud Gaming guide for its dated service guidance.

How to decide before you buy
- Identify the games you actually want to play. For each one, check whether it has a compatible PC version, Play Anywhere eligibility, Remote Play support, or Cloud Gaming availability.
- Choose the access route you will use most. Local PC play depends on Windows compatibility and the PC entitlement; Remote Play depends on your console and internet; Cloud Gaming depends on the current catalog, device, region, subscription, and network.
- Check compatibility and expected performance. Review Xbox’s current handheld status for the game, and treat performance labels as guidance rather than guarantees.
- Compare current local prices and requirements. Xbox’s value positioning for the Ally and higher-performance positioning for the Ally X are not substitutes for checking your market’s current prices or independent comparative tests.
