Choose a display mode your system and screen support, then tune visual effects and controls to your preference. Nightdive has confirmed native 4K on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X|S, plus 120Hz support on Xbox Series X|S; those claims do not establish PC settings or capabilities for other platforms.
What graphics settings should you use?
Start with a resolution and refresh rate supported by both your platform and display. On PC, the official sources do not publish a tested graphics preset, recommended values for individual options, or comparative performance results. Treat any adjustments as personal tuning rather than a proven performance recipe.

What the remaster changes
Nightdive describes a modernized version of the original game’s 3D renderer, with high-resolution assets, modern materials and shaders, ambient occlusion support, and work to address older renderer bottlenecks. These are feature descriptions, not guarantees of a particular frame rate or image-quality level. Read Nightdive developer Lexi Mayfield’s account in Xbox Wire.
Xbox resolution and refresh-rate claims
In the March 20, 2025 Xbox Wire interview, Nightdive developer Lexi Mayfield said the game runs natively at 4K on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X|S, and supports 120Hz on Xbox Series X|S. These are platform capabilities reported by the developer, not benchmark results; they should not be generalized to PC, other Xbox models, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch.
#1 Best Overall
- Cross-Play Co-Op multiplayer.
- Choose from 3 branches of the Military; O.S.A, Marines or Navy and experiment with different play styles.
- Up to 120 FPS performance with ultra-widescreen support.
- 50 Trophies to unlock.
- Enhanced Characters, Weapon Models and Animations. Optimized Controller support. Quality of Life improvements.
Ambient occlusion and other effects
Ambient occlusion is supported, but the cited official information does not recommend turning it on or off or quantify its performance cost. If the option is available in your version, compare how the image looks and feels on your own hardware. Prefer the smoother or clearer experience you want; no specific setting value is established as best.
How should you set up a controller?
Controller support includes menu navigation and configurable controls. The default layout puts quick-access bars on the bumpers, and aiming can be slowed to help with accuracy. The game also replaces multiple lean buttons with one lean toggle, using the control stick to choose the direction of the lean. Mayfield describes these controller features in the Xbox Wire interview.

Remapping and stick layout
Nightdive says nearly every control can be remapped, with analog-stick looking and walking as the exceptions. A southpaw option swaps the sticks. Use the arrangement that makes movement, looking, menu navigation and quick-access actions comfortable for you; the official information does not name an objectively best binding scheme.
Sensitivity and dead zones
On June 27, 2025, Nightdive’s PC Patch 1.0.1 notes documented two changes to default controller settings: turning sensitivity rose from 1.0 to 1.5, and the dead-zone defaults changed from 0.1/0.1 to 0.24/0.265. Those are defaults specified in that PC patch, not confirmation of current values on every platform or after later updates. See the Patch 1.0.1 notes.

- Its the year 2114 and as you awake from cryo sleep on the FTL ship Von Braun, you are unable to remember who or where you are and something has gone terribly wrong. Hybrid mutants and deadly robots roam the halls while the cries from the remaining crew reverberate through the cold hull of the ship. SHODAN, a rogue AI bent on the destruction of mankind has taken over and its up to you to stop her.
- Delve through the corridors of the derelict ship Von Braun and immerse yourself in the story rich atmosphere and environments. Explore deck by deck and unravel the horrifying fate of the Von Braun and her crew.
If turning feels too slow or too abrupt, adjust sensitivity in small steps. If a stick registers movement when untouched, or feels unresponsive near its center, use the dead-zone control if available and tune it to your controller. These are practical ways to personalize the settings, not values validated by a comparative test.

Nightdive confirms that keyboard and mouse are supported, as is controller input. The official interview does not give recommended mouse sensitivity or key bindings, nor does it compare the two input methods in a performance test. Choose based on your comfort, platform and interface preference; the available evidence does not establish a universally superior option.

A practical setup checklist
- Set a resolution and refresh rate supported by your device and display.
- On Xbox, distinguish the developer’s stated 4K and 120Hz capabilities from performance guarantees or claims about other platforms.
- Try available image effects, including ambient occlusion, according to your preference rather than an assumed performance benefit.
- For controller play, adjust sensitivity and dead zones for your own stick feel; use remapping, southpaw layout and the aim-slowing feature if they suit you.
- Use mouse and keyboard or a controller according to comfort. No tested universal preset or input-method winner is established by the cited official information.
