For a straightforward webpage, try the browser’s own full-page capture first: Edge’s Screenshot/Web Capture or Firefox’s “Save full page.” In Chrome, use DevTools’ “Capture full size screenshot” command, or add an extension if you want a simpler workflow. For long content inside a non-browser Windows app, use a scrolling-capture desktop application instead. The right choice depends on whether the page has nested scrolling panels, sticky elements, or content that appears only as you scroll.
Choose a tool for the content you need to capture
| What you want to capture | Good place to start | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|
| A typical webpage in Edge | Edge Screenshot/Web Capture | Nested scrollers and lazy-loaded images may not capture cleanly. |
| A typical webpage in Firefox | Firefox’s “Save full page” workflow | Menu labels and behavior can vary by installed version; check the result. |
| A webpage in Chrome | DevTools “Capture full size screenshot” or a capture extension | DevTools is less convenient for repeated everyday captures. |
| A webpage needing editing or export options | OpenCapture or another extension | Review permissions and verify the extension’s current availability and features. |
| A long view inside another Windows application | ShareX, PicPick, or Snagit scrolling capture | These tools stitch frames; fixed headers or changing content can repeat or misalign. |
A normal screen snip captures only what is visible. The Windows guide reviewed for this article says Win+Shift+S, Print Screen, and Snipping Tool do not scroll a page; full-page capture requires a browser workflow or additional software. FullPage Capture’s Windows guide is a vendor-authored guide rather than official Microsoft documentation, so confirm the current labels and behavior in your browser.
Use the browser’s built-in full-page screenshot
Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S or open Edge’s browser menu and choose Screenshot/Web Capture. The exact menu label may change between versions.
- Choose the full-page capture option, then inspect the preview.
- Use the viewer’s copy or save controls. The reviewed guide describes basic pen and eraser tools and PNG saving.
This is the simplest first attempt for an ordinary page. It may struggle with nested scroll panels, repeated sticky elements, or images that load only as the page scrolls.
Firefox
- Open the webpage, then right-click the page and choose “Take Screenshot.”
- Choose “Save full page.”
- Review the result, then download the PNG or copy it to the clipboard.
These steps and the feature name are described in the reviewed Windows guide; confirm the current menu labels in your installed Firefox version. Firefox can encounter the same kinds of problems with inner scrollers and scroll-triggered images.

- Run the command, then inspect the saved screenshot.
For a more direct capture workflow or pages that do not behave well with the built-in route, use an extension. GoFullPage’s own FAQ explains that it scrolls through the page and assembles viewport-sized captures into one image. It also says the extension cannot access PDFs and may not work on sites that use custom JavaScript scrolling. GoFullPage’s FAQ describes those limitations.

GoFullPage
GoFullPage remains a relevant option when you want an extension to capture a webpage by scrolling and stitching viewport captures. It is not a universal solution: its FAQ identifies PDFs and some custom-scrolling sites as limitations. Its Chrome Web Store listing showed version 8.9 dated September 24, 2026; store availability and version details can change. The listing’s changelog includes earlier fixes related to scrolling, frames, and PDF exports. Check the current Chrome Web Store listing for its present version and permissions.

OpenCapture
OpenCapture’s project says it supports whole-page, visible-area, and selected-region capture, with crop, annotation, blur, watermarking, and PNG/PDF export. It says image processing happens locally in the browser and that its code is AGPL-3.0-or-later. Its website says the extension is available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, and that all features except tiled watermarking are free. These are project statements, not an independent security audit or guarantee; check the current project details and permissions before installing. OpenCapture website

Capture long content outside a browser
A browser extension generally cannot capture a scrolling region in every Windows application. For a chat client, settings window, or document viewer, the reviewed Windows guide names ShareX and PicPick as free options and Snagit as paid software. Their scrolling-capture workflows scroll a window and stitch multiple frames.

Stitching can repeat fixed headers or misalign content that changes while scrolling. The guide does not establish current licensing or feature details for those applications, so check each product’s official page before choosing one. Capture a short test first, especially if the window has its own scrollable panels.
Check the screenshot before relying on it
- Nested scrolling area: If only part of the page scrolls, the tool may capture the outer page but omit content inside the panel. Try capturing that region separately or use the application’s own export option when available.
- Sticky navigation or headers: A scrolled-and-stitched image may show the same fixed element multiple times. Inspect the full image and try a different capture method if repeated elements obscure content.
- Lazy-loaded images: Some images load only after scrolling. Check that the bottom and intermediate sections are populated; if not, scroll through the page normally first and retry.
- PDF opened in a browser: GoFullPage says it cannot access PDFs. Use the PDF viewer’s save/export or print-to-PDF workflow rather than expecting a webpage extension to capture the document.
- Custom JavaScript scrolling: A site may manage scrolling differently from a standard webpage. If a full-page capture cuts off or repeats content, try the browser’s native capture or another extension and verify the result.
- Content changes during capture: Live dashboards and feeds can change between stitched frames. Pause updates if possible, or use a native export that preserves a consistent view.

Can I use Snipping Tool to capture a whole webpage?
No. The reviewed Windows guide says Snipping Tool, Print Screen, and Win+Shift+S capture only the visible screen and do not scroll the page.
Will a full-page screenshot include a webpage’s PDF viewer?
Not reliably. GoFullPage’s FAQ says it cannot access PDFs; use the PDF viewer’s own save or export options instead.
