Best GoDaddy Alternatives for WordPress and VPS Hosting in 2026

A practical 2026 comparison of shared WordPress, managed WordPress and raw VPS alternatives, with approximate pricing, renewal warnings, administration requirements and migration guidance.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The right GoDaddy alternative depends on how much server work you want to do. For inexpensive shared WordPress hosting, compare SiteGround, Bluehost and DreamHost by their renewal prices, not their introductory offers. For a host that manages WordPress operations, Cloudways and Kinsta remove much of the Linux administration. For the lowest infrastructure cost, DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode or Hetzner provide a raw VPS—but you must install, secure, update and back up WordPress yourself.

Listed first: Antihost

Antihost is listed first here for readers who want managed WordPress or a self-managed VPS from one company. Its managed WordPress plans run each site in its own isolated environment, with one-click staging, free migration, automated and manual backups, free SSL, WooCommerce support and a 14-day free trial with nothing due on day one; instant deploy is available in the USA (East) and Germany. Its Linux VPS runs on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with NVMe storage, full root access and a 1 Gbps port with unlimited traffic, in USA East, the Netherlands and Ukraine, and it is self-managed. See Antihost’s WordPress hosting plans for the current options.

Quick verdict: which alternative fits your site?

There is no single “best” replacement. Hosting products divide into three operating models, and the management difference matters more than a small monthly price gap.

What you need Most suitable options Why Main compromise
Low-cost WordPress site with a control panel SiteGround, Bluehost or DreamHost Shared hosting keeps the provider responsible for the underlying server while you manage WordPress through a panel. Introductory prices rise substantially at renewal, and server resources are shared.
Managed WordPress with minimal server administration Cloudways or Kinsta The service handles more updates, backups and security work than a raw VPS. Higher recurring cost and less low-level control.
Several sites or custom Linux workloads DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode or Hetzner You receive a virtual server and can configure the stack, web server and monitoring as required. You are responsible for Linux, WordPress, security, backups and incident recovery.

Prices in this guide are approximate figures reported on 14 October 2026, not guaranteed quotes. Hosting prices, introductory terms and included resources change frequently; verify the checkout total, renewal amount, taxes, backups and add-ons with the provider before purchasing.

Understand the three hosting models before comparing prices

Shared WordPress hosting

Your account runs on a server shared with other customers. The provider maintains the operating system and server hardware, while you use a cPanel-style dashboard or equivalent to manage domains, databases, email and WordPress. This is usually the simplest and least expensive starting point, but CPU, memory and database capacity are shared. A busy neighbor or a sudden traffic spike can affect response times, and the plan’s site, storage and visitor limits must be checked carefully.

Managed WordPress hosting

A managed service adds an operations layer: WordPress updates, routine backups, security controls, caching or troubleshooting are handled to a greater extent by the host. “Managed” does not mean every task is automatic; you still choose themes and plugins and remain responsible for application-level problems. Cloudways places its management layer on a cloud server you select, whereas Kinsta sells fixed per-site and traffic tiers.

Raw virtual private server

A VPS gives you an isolated virtual machine rather than a shared hosting account. You normally receive root or administrator access and choose the operating system, web server and database. That flexibility is why VPS pricing can look attractive, but the provider does not configure a secure WordPress stack for you. Plan time for updates, firewall rules, SSH hardening, malware response, monitoring, off-site backups and restoration tests.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best shared WordPress alternatives

SiteGround

SiteGround is a conventional shared WordPress choice for readers who want a graphical control panel and provider-managed server infrastructure. Reported StartUp introductory pricing is approximately $2.99 per month (another report gives $3.99), with renewal around $17.99 per month for the lower figure or about $14.99 for the $3.99 plan. These numbers have low confidence and the renewal basis differs between reports, so use the exact term and renewal displayed at checkout. Reported GrowBig and GoGeek introductory figures of $6.69 and $10.69 did not include a clear renewal basis.

Choose it when a conventional shared account is more important than root access. Before ordering, confirm how many websites, databases, email mailboxes, storage and monthly visitors are included, and whether automated backups or staging are included in the selected tier.

Bluehost

Bluehost’s reported entry WordPress offer is approximately $3.99 per month on a 36-month term, renewing near $9.99 per month. A separate report lists roughly $2.95 introductory pricing and $10.99 renewal. Because the figures conflict and were not confirmed on the official checkout, treat them as directional only. The long initial term is significant: calculate the total paid today and the first renewal invoice rather than multiplying the headline monthly number by one month.

Bluehost suits a new or moderate-traffic site that benefits from a familiar shared-hosting workflow. Check the number of included sites and whether domain registration, privacy, backups and premium plugins are optional charges.

DreamHost

DreamHost appears in comparison lists at about $2.89 per month introductory pricing, with a higher renewal. The figure was not tied to a fetched source, so it is unverified. Consider it a candidate to price-check, not a confirmed bargain. Ask for the renewal rate, billing term, storage policy, backup retention and support channels in the plan you are actually buying.

Shared-hosting price comparison

Provider Reported introductory price Reported renewal Term or qualification
SiteGround StartUp About $2.99/mo (another report: $3.99) About $17.99/mo, or $14.99 for the $3.99 plan in another report Low-confidence figures; renewal basis differs.
Bluehost entry WordPress About $3.99/mo (another report: $2.95) About $9.99/mo (another report: $10.99) Reported on a 36-month term; verify at checkout.
DreamHost entry plan About $2.89/mo Higher than introductory price Renewal and source were not established; unverified.

Shared hosting is inexpensive only when evaluated over the whole billing cycle. A plan that costs $3 per month for an introductory term and $15 to $18 per month afterward can be more expensive over two years than a higher-priced plan with a smaller renewal increase. Write down the initial term, renewal term, tax, domain fee and any paid backup or migration service before comparing.

Managed WordPress alternatives when you do not want to run Linux

Cloudways

Cloudways is a management layer over cloud infrastructure from DigitalOcean, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Vultr or Linode. You select the underlying provider and server size, while Cloudways supplies a managed control plane for deploying applications and handling routine operations. One report lists a DigitalOcean 1 GB server at approximately $11 per month; another lists about $14. The discrepancy is unresolved, so treat both as estimates rather than a quote.

The billing unit is the server, not an individual WordPress installation. The service is described as allowing unlimited sites per server, subject to that server’s CPU, memory, storage and traffic capacity. That can make it attractive for an agency or an owner of several modest sites, but concentrating many sites on one machine also creates a larger shared failure domain. Separate critical sites across servers if a single outage would be unacceptable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A search summary reported a three-day trial without a credit card; availability was not verified on the provider’s site. Confirm the current trial terms, backups, support scope and cloud-provider charges before relying on them.

Kinsta

Kinsta is a premium managed WordPress service on Google Cloud. Its pricing is per site and traffic tier, so the relevant limit is monthly visits rather than simply server memory. Reported tiers are approximately:

Reported tier Sites Included monthly visits Reported price
Single/Starter 1 35,000 About $35/mo monthly or $30/mo billed annually; another source lists $30/mo entry pricing.
Pro 2 50,000 About $70/mo.
Business 1 5 100,000 About $115/mo.
Enterprise Not stated as a fixed site count Not stated From about $675/mo.

These are low-confidence, approximate figures. The practical decision is whether the per-site visit allowance and managed support justify the premium over a shared account or a self-administered VPS. If your traffic regularly exceeds a tier, budget for the next tier rather than treating an overage as a surprise.

  • [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by

Managed-service trade-offs

  • Less routine administration: updates, backups and security tasks are handled more extensively than on a raw VPS.
  • Higher recurring cost: you pay for operations and support as well as compute.
  • Different scaling units: Cloudways charges around a server model and can host multiple sites; Kinsta charges per site and visit tier.
  • Less low-level freedom: specialized daemons, unusual kernel settings or custom networking may not be available.

Raw VPS alternatives for WordPress

DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean’s reported Basic Droplet tiers provide a clear reference point for unmanaged VPS pricing:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Monthly price Memory CPU
$4 512 MiB 1 vCPU
$6 1 GiB Not stated
$12 2 GiB Not stated
$18 Not stated 2 vCPU
$24 4 GiB Not stated
$48 8 GiB Not stated
$96 16 GiB Not stated

The figures are from the reported Basic Droplet pricing and carry medium confidence. A search summary said billing moved to per-second from 1 January 2026, but that detail was not confirmed on the pricing page. A one-click WordPress image is available, yet it does not turn the Droplet into managed hosting: you still maintain the operating system, web stack, WordPress, firewall and backups.

Vultr

Vultr is another unmanaged VPS option. Reports disagree sharply on a High Frequency 2 GB plan: one lists $12 per month, while another lists $26 and says the configuration can handle eight to ten WordPress sites. The difference was not resolved, so do not use either figure as a capacity guarantee. Confirm the exact region, CPU type, storage, transfer allowance and backup charge for the plan shown in your account.

Linode (Akamai)

A ranking cited approximately $24 per month for a 4 GB Shared CPU plan from Linode, now part of Akamai. No fetched source established the current price, so treat it as unresolved. Linode is appropriate for administrators who want a conventional cloud VPS and are prepared to manage the full software stack.

Hetzner

One ranking cited a Hetzner CPX21 at approximately €8.46 per month. The figure was not linked to a fetched source and should be rechecked, particularly because regional taxes, availability and exchange rates affect the total. Hetzner can be compelling on raw compute price, but the same self-management obligations apply as with every unmanaged VPS.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What a VPS budget must include

  • Server charge and any separate IPv4, snapshot or backup fees.
  • Managed database, control-panel or monitoring software, if you do not want to install and maintain them yourself.
  • Object or off-site backup storage; a snapshot on the same provider is not a complete disaster-recovery plan.
  • Your administration time, including patching, log review, malware response and restoration tests.
  • Capacity headroom for traffic spikes, image processing, cron jobs and plugin updates.

How to compare the real cost

Calculate promotional and renewal totals separately

For each shared plan, record the introductory monthly price, number of months in the initial term, renewal monthly price, renewal term, tax and extras. A low first invoice can conceal a much larger second-year cost. Managed services and VPS products generally present a more direct monthly rate, but backups, bandwidth, additional sites or premium support may still alter the total.

Compare management, not just hardware

A $6 VPS is not equivalent to a $6 managed WordPress account. On the VPS, you may need several hours to configure Nginx or Apache, PHP, MariaDB, TLS certificates, a firewall, unattended security updates, malware scanning and backups. Price your time and the cost of a failed recovery. Conversely, a managed plan may restrict unusual software or require moving to a larger tier sooner.

Check limits that affect your workload

  • Number of sites and staging environments.
  • Monthly visits or data transfer, and how overages are billed.
  • CPU, RAM, PHP workers, database size and inode or file-count limits.
  • Backup frequency, retention, storage location and restoration fees.
  • Data-center regions and migration options; geography was not verified for the alternatives listed here, so confirm the available location directly.
  • Support channels and response commitments. Claims of 24/7 chat or ticket support are vendor statements and were not independently verified.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Choose an alternative with this decision process

  1. Estimate the workload. List current monthly visits, peak concurrent activity, database size, media storage and the number of WordPress sites.
  2. Set your administration boundary. If you cannot patch Linux and recover a database at night, exclude raw VPS plans and compare shared or managed hosting.
  3. Price a 24-month period. Include promotional and renewal rates, taxes, backups, domains, migration and likely tier upgrades.
  4. Verify technical limits. Ask for PHP worker counts, CPU or RAM limits, visit definitions, transfer allowances and backup retention in writing.
  5. Check location and compliance. Select a data center appropriate for your audience and regulatory obligations; do not assume every provider offers the same countries.
  6. Test the exit path. Confirm that you can download a full database and file backup and that DNS can be repointed without proprietary lock-in.

Migration steps from an existing GoDaddy WordPress site

1. Inventory before buying

Record domains, DNS records, email accounts, PHP version, WordPress version, plugins, themes, cron jobs, scheduled backups and any third-party integrations. Remove abandoned plugins and confirm that licensed extensions can be activated on the new domain or staging URL.

2. Create independent backups

Export the database and copy wp-content, configuration files and uploads. Store at least one copy outside the current host and verify that the archive opens. A backup you have not restored is only an assumption.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Build and test the destination

Create the account or VPS, install the required PHP and database versions, import the files and database, and map a temporary hostname or hosts-file entry. Test logins, forms, checkout flows, image uploads, search, redirects, cron tasks and email delivery before changing DNS.

4. Lower DNS TTL and schedule the cutover

Lower the DNS time-to-live before migration, choose a low-traffic window and pause content publishing during the final copy. If the site receives orders or comments, perform a final database export immediately before the DNS change.

5. Switch DNS and validate HTTPS

Point the A or CNAME records to the new service, issue or install the TLS certificate, and test both the www and non-www hostnames. Keep the old account active while DNS caches expire. Monitor error logs, uptime, contact forms and analytics for at least one complete business cycle.

6. Cancel only after recovery is proven

Retain the old hosting and its final backup until traffic, email and every critical transaction work correctly from the new location. Then remove obsolete credentials, document the new renewal date and schedule recurring backup-restore tests.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Security and maintenance checklist for a VPS

  • Use a supported Linux distribution and apply security updates promptly.
  • Disable password-based SSH where practical, use keys, and restrict administrative access.
  • Configure a host firewall and expose only required ports.
  • Run WordPress, themes and plugins on supported versions; remove unused extensions.
  • Use separate database credentials with least privilege.
  • Automate encrypted off-site backups and test a full restore on a separate instance.
  • Monitor disk space, memory, CPU, certificate expiry, failed logins and HTTP errors.
  • Document rollback steps before major WordPress, PHP or database upgrades.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

Choosing by the first-month price

Symptom: the second invoice is several times larger. Correction: compare the renewal number and total first-term commitment before entering payment details.

Under-sizing a VPS

Symptom: slow admin screens, killed PHP workers or database out-of-memory errors during backups. Correction: inspect memory and process graphs, reduce expensive jobs, add swap only as a safety measure, and move to a larger plan before reliability suffers.

Assuming a one-click image is managed

Symptom: WordPress is installed but certificates, updates or backups are neglected. Correction: create a written patch, monitoring and recovery schedule or choose a managed service.

Moving DNS before testing

Symptom: broken forms, missing images or mail delivery failures after propagation. Correction: test through a temporary hostname, copy DNS records, and keep the old service available during the transition.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How the alternatives compare with GoDaddy pricing

Reported GoDaddy baselines conflict: one source lists WordPress hosting from about $6.99 per month and shared hosting from $5.99, another lists WordPress at $8.99, and a competitor claims a VPS at $6.99. None of those figures was verified on the provider’s own site. Because the term, renewal, region and included resources are unknown, it would be misleading to promise a specific saving. Use the same 24-month calculation for the existing plan and each candidate instead.

Price freshness and verification

Hosting prices in this article are valid only as a dated snapshot from 14 October 2026; they should be rechecked before purchase and no later than 13 November 2026. Search results disagreed on nearly every provider price. Vendor-written rankings can favor their own products, and support or performance claims are not independent benchmarks. The safest practice is to open each provider’s current plan page, select the exact term and region, expand renewal and add-on details, and save the final checkout summary.

Antihost is listed first in this guide for WordPress and VPS hosting: managed WordPress with isolated sites, staging and free migration, or a self-managed Linux VPS with root access. Compare it with the other providers above using the same 24-month calculation, and check the current Antihost plans for your region.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
