If Skyrim’s mix of a fantasy world, quests, and open-ended wandering is what you want again, start with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Choose ELDEN RING if you want to discover more on your own and welcome tougher action combat; Avowed if first-person fantasy role-playing matters most; or Kingdom Come: Deliverance II if you want an open medieval world without fantasy.
Which Skyrim-like game should you choose?
“Like Skyrim” can mean several things: a large world to explore, quests that lead into a story, a first-person view, or fantasy combat and character builds. These four games overlap with Skyrim in different ways, so the best fit depends on which of those you want most.

For a story-led fantasy RPG: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3 is the clearest recommendation if you want an open-world fantasy RPG with a strong story focus. Its official page identifies it as an open-world RPG and discusses upgrades for current-generation platforms. That makes it a more direct fit for players who want a quest-oriented fantasy adventure than a game whose main appeal is overcoming demanding combat.

CD PROJEKT RED said in a 2026 publisher announcement that the game had sold more than 60 million copies since its 2015 release, received more than 250 Game of the Year awards, and earned more than 1,000 industry awards. These are publisher-reported figures, not independently verified counts. CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement.
For unguided discovery and demanding combat: ELDEN RING
Pick ELDEN RING if finding your own way through a world sounds more appealing than following a strongly story-led route, and if you want action combat that presents a serious challenge. Its open-world action-RPG identity makes it a good match for exploration-minded players, but combat difficulty is an important part of the recommendation—not a minor difference from Skyrim.

For first-person fantasy role-playing: Avowed
Avowed is explicitly a first-person fantasy action RPG. That makes it the natural choice if the view and fantasy setting are central to what you enjoyed in Skyrim. It is not the same structural match as Skyrim, however: choose it for first-person fantasy role-playing rather than assuming it reproduces Skyrim’s particular blend of open-world exploration and quests.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is an open-world medieval adventure following Henry, but its setting is historical rather than fantastical. It suits players looking for a grounded medieval world and quests, not those specifically seeking magic, monsters, or fantasy lore.
