Start with the settings that protect your phone and personal data, then tune battery behavior, the lock-screen display and camera defaults to fit how you use the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Menu names can vary as Samsung updates One UI, so if a path below does not match your phone, search Settings for the setting name.
Check your software version before changing settings
Samsung lists the Galaxy S25 Ultra among devices eligible for One UI 8, and its regional support portal lists an Android 16 manual for the S25 family. That does not mean every phone has the same update: rollout timing, carrier and region can affect the installed version and menu layout. Check your phone’s version in Settings, and use Settings search when a menu has moved. Samsung’s One UI support page covers its rollout information; the regional S25 Ultra support portal provides manuals.

Secure the phone and review privacy access
Begin in Settings → Security and privacy. Set a strong screen lock and add fingerprint or face recognition if those options suit you. Review account security and lost-device protection, then check for both Samsung security updates and Google Play system updates.
Open Permission manager to review which apps can access sensitive features such as location, camera and microphone. Samsung says a green indicator appears when camera or microphone access is active; tap the indicator from the notification panel to identify the app. If an app does not need a permission for its core purpose, revoke it. Choose Auto Blocker restrictions that fit your habits
Auto Blocker can help protect against unauthorized app sources, commands sent over a USB cable, software updates from unauthorized sources, and malware images in messaging apps. It is a practical choice if you do not rely on those installation or USB workflows. Samsung documents it in its Galaxy malware and Auto Blocker guide.
When to use Maximum restrictions
Maximum restrictions adds controls involving device administrator apps, shared albums and location data in shared pictures. That tighter protection can limit features, so enable it only if the added restrictions suit your use. Samsung says it does not recommend third-party anti-malware products; an extra antivirus app is not a necessary part of this checklist.

Find battery drain before limiting the phone
Open Settings → Battery and inspect usage details to see which apps are consuming power and how screen-on and screen-off time contribute. Address a specific heavy-use app before applying broad restrictions. Samsung’s battery guidance notes that actual battery life varies with network environment and usage.
Try display adjustments first
Adaptive brightness and a shorter screen timeout are straightforward ways to reduce unnecessary display use. The S25 Ultra’s announced specifications include a 6.9-inch QHD+ display with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz and peak brightness up to 2,600 nits; those are specifications, not a promise of a particular battery runtime. The same Samsung sheet lists a 5,000mAh battery and says actual life varies. Samsung’s specification sheet was current as of January 22, 2025.

Review Battery protection and Power saving
Look at Battery protection and choose a charging limit or behavior that fits your priorities. If you need more runtime, Power saving can help, but Samsung warns it may reduce performance and delay background app updates or notifications. It is a trade-off, not a guaranteed improvement for every use pattern. Older Galaxy guides may mention Wi-Fi power saving; Samsung says this feature is not available on Galaxy S25 devices or later One UI 7 builds.

Choose the lock-screen glance experience that feels useful rather than leaving a default you do not want. Samsung documents four modes: Auto, Always, Tap to show and As scheduled. Always keeps glance information available; Tap to show limits it to when you interact; As scheduled gives it a time window. Auto lets the phone manage display behavior. Names and availability can vary by model and software version, so search Settings for “Always On Display” if needed. Set practical camera defaults
Open the Camera app’s settings and adjust a few defaults for the way you shoot. The S25 Ultra has a 200MP main wide camera, 50MP ultra-wide, and 10MP and 50MP telephoto cameras; Samsung also lists video capture up to 4K at 120 frames per second and 8K at 30 frames per second. These are supported specifications, not recommendations to use the highest resolution or frame rate for every clip. Samsung’s S25 series specification sheet is dated January 22, 2025.

- Grid lines: Turn them on if you want visual guides for leveling and composition.
- Tracking auto-focus: Consider enabling it when you often photograph moving subjects.
- Video stabilization: Use it when the camera is moving and steadier footage matters.
- Settings to keep: Choose whether the camera remembers your preferred shooting mode, selfie angle or filters when you reopen it.
Choose location and file formats deliberately
Location tags attach GPS location to photos and videos. They can make personal travel shots easier to organize, but location metadata can reveal where an image was taken if you share the original file. Leave tags off if you do not want that information attached.
Samsung also offers choices such as HEIF or RAW, Auto FPS, intelligent optimization, Scene optimizer and video-format options. Their usefulness depends on whether you prioritize editing flexibility, storage, compatibility or a particular look; there is no universally best combination. Check Samsung’s camera modes and settings guide for available controls, which can vary by phone and software.
