For an ordinary screenshot of your Mac screen, a window, or a selected area, start with the Screenshot tool included with macOS. For a long, scrolling capture that can include content outside the visible window, consider Shottr, which documents scrolling screenshots across webpages and other app windows. If you only need to capture a full webpage in a browser, GoFullPage is a browser-extension option. These tools serve different jobs; the available product information describes their features, not comparative hands-on testing.
First decide what you need to capture
A full-screen screenshot records what is visible on your display. A full-page webpage screenshot captures content farther down the page as well. Those are different tasks, and the right free option depends on whether you need a screen image, a scrolling capture across apps, or just a complete webpage.

Use macOS Screenshot for the visible screen
- Press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot controls.
- Choose the control for capturing the entire screen, a window, or a selected portion. The same panel also offers screen or window recording.
- Capture the image and inspect the saved result.
Apple’s guide documents these screen, window, and area capture modes, but does not describe a way to stitch a scrolling webpage into one image. If you need content below the visible part of a page, use a tool that specifically documents scrolling capture instead.
Choose Shottr for scrolling capture and editing
Shottr is the Mac app in this group whose official feature list explicitly includes scrolling screenshots for long webpages and other app windows. That makes it a closer fit than macOS Screenshot when your capture needs to extend beyond the visible window. Its listed tools also include OCR and annotation, plus redaction or pixelation for concealing parts of an image.
Shottr lists macOS Catalina 10.15 or later. Its official FAQ says the app can be used free indefinitely, though it periodically prompts users to consider purchasing and most—not necessarily all—features are available to free users. The upload feature requires activation, so do not assume that free use includes every sharing or upload capability. Shottr’s page lists version 1.9.3 dated September 24, 2026, with a set of improvements for macOS 27; check the official page for current compatibility and release details.
Choose GoFullPage for a browser-only webpage capture
GoFullPage is presented by its official site as a browser extension for full-page screen capture. It is a reasonable route to consider when the job is limited to capturing a webpage from a browser rather than taking scrolling screenshots in other Mac apps. Its site announced a Firefox Add-ons release on September 7, 2026, but extension availability and browser support can change. Confirm the current listing and compatibility in the store for your browser before following installation instructions.

Inspect scrolling captures before sharing them
Long pages can include sticky headers, animated content, and images that load only as you scroll. These behaviors can affect what appears in a full-page image. After capturing, review the saved file from top to bottom for missing sections, repeated or misplaced elements, and images that did not load. If the result is incomplete, try again after the page has finished loading or use another capture route; the documented feature lists alone do not establish that any option works on every site.
