Best Free Software to Automate a Pre-Recorded YouTube Live Stream

For one scheduled video, YouTube Premiere is the simplest free option. OBS is free for encoder-led streams, while unattended playback calls for cloud playout and may require a paid plan.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

For one finished video scheduled to play once, use YouTube Premiere. For a true encoder-fed live broadcast with hands-on control, use OBS Studio; it is free, but the computer running it must stay on and connected. If the stream needs to run unattended or loop continuously, consider cloud playout instead—though the sources reviewed do not establish that these services offer the relevant features free.

The right choice depends on what “automate” means: schedule an uploaded video to play once, have an encoder send video at a chosen time, or keep a recurring stream running without a computer at home.

Which kind of pre-recorded YouTube stream do you need?

A finished video can appear in a YouTube live event in two different ways. A YouTube Premiere plays a video already uploaded to YouTube at a scheduled time. An encoder-fed live stream sends a video feed to YouTube in real time, using software such as OBS. Premiere is not an encoder, and scheduling a YouTube event does not automatically start OBS.

  • One video, one scheduled play: Choose Premiere for the simplest no-cost route.
  • Control over an encoder broadcast: Choose OBS if you can start and monitor it from a computer that remains online.
  • Scheduled or continuous playback without a home computer: Look at cloud playout. Check the current price and plan terms; the cited directory identifies relevant services but does not establish that they are free.

Best free options, by use case

1. StreamNeo: cloud playout for unattended YouTube streaming

For a stream that should keep going after you switch off your computer, StreamNeo is the cloud option to consider first: it loops uploaded videos on YouTube, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. It is not a free ongoing plan, and it streams to YouTube only.

2. YouTube Premiere: best for a single scheduled video

Premiere is the clearest free choice when you have uploaded one finished video and want it to play once at a selected time, with chat alongside it. It needs no separate encoder software. It is a scheduled playback of an uploaded video, not a continuous encoder feed. See the LiveReacting guide to prerecorded YouTube live options for this distinction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. OBS Studio: best free desktop encoder workflow

YouTube’s official encoder directory lists OBS Studio as open-source software for video recording and live streaming at no charge: YouTube’s encoder guide and software directory. OBS gives you an encoder workflow, but it is not a managed cloud scheduler: the computer running OBS must remain powered on and connected for the broadcast.

4. StreamYard: browser scheduling, but verify free-plan access

StreamYard documents a flow for selecting “Pre-recorded video” as the source and “Schedule for Later” for supported destinations including YouTube. Its help page does not establish whether that feature is currently included in the free plan or specify file and duration caps. Check the current terms before treating it as a free option: StreamYard’s scheduling instructions.

A StreamYard guide last updated 2026-01-16 describes prerecorded streams of up to 8 hours depending on plan; it does not establish that this duration is available on the free plan. Verify current eligibility and limits in the vendor’s 2026 streaming software guide.

Set up the free route that fits

Schedule one uploaded video as a Premiere

  1. Upload the finished video to YouTube.
  2. Choose Premiere and select the time it should play. The exact interface labels can change, so follow the current YouTube Studio prompts.
  3. Share the scheduled watch page with viewers. They can use the chat alongside the event.

This schedules YouTube’s playback of the uploaded video; it does not start a local encoder or create a continuous looping stream.

Run a prerecorded video through OBS

  1. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
  2. In OBS, add the video as a media source and configure the broadcast output for YouTube using the stream key and server details shown in YouTube Studio.
  3. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm the preview and stream status in YouTube Studio before sharing the live watch page.
  4. Keep the computer awake, OBS running, and internet connection stable for the entire broadcast. For a scheduled start, someone or a reliable local automation setup still needs to start the encoder; the reviewed sources do not establish a built-in unattended scheduler in OBS.

YouTube’s encoder guide identifies OBS as an encoder option, but the reviewed sources do not establish universal recommended bitrate, resolution, keyframe, or OBS version settings for every connection and video. Follow the current YouTube Studio guidance for your stream and test the exact setup before a public event rather than assuming one set of values fits all.

Before you go live: eligibility and content rights

YouTube live-stream access has eligibility requirements that can change. A vendor guide published 2026-06-28, describing a check against official pages on 2026-08-23, says channels need verification and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; it also says first activation can take up to 24 hours. Confirm the current rules directly with YouTube’s live-streaming guidance before scheduling an event.

  • Only use video, music, and other material you have permission to broadcast. Uploading or playing a recording as a live event does not remove copyright obligations.
  • Check the current YouTube rules for live streams and reused content, and make sure the recording meets them.
  • Verify the stream key, scheduled start time, video playback, and destination before promoting the event.

For a channel-side checklist, see the copyright safety checklist.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Common problems and fixes

  • The event is scheduled, but OBS is not sending video: A scheduled YouTube event does not start the local encoder. Start OBS and confirm the stream status in YouTube Studio, or use Premiere when you only need scheduled playback of an uploaded video.
  • The OBS stream stops when you leave: The local computer or connection may have gone to sleep or disconnected. Keep the machine awake and online, or move to cloud playout for unattended operation.
  • A browser tool asks for a paid plan: The reviewed StreamYard help page does not confirm free-plan eligibility for prerecorded scheduling. Check current plan terms before relying on it.
  • You cannot start a live stream: Confirm channel eligibility and check YouTube Studio for restrictions; requirements can change.
  • YouTube interrupts or blocks the recording: Review the channel notice and the current rules, then address any rights or policy issue before trying again.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Your first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded video playback on YouTube, not a camera-based live feed. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
