1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose Canva if you want to turn photos into a finished video slideshow, such as an MP4 with music. Choose Google Slides or LibreOffice Impress if you need an editable presentation deck you can show live or hand off in PowerPoint. The key decision is the file you need at the end: a video plays as a finished montage; a slide deck remains editable.
Choose by the slideshow you need to make
| Tool | Best fit | What you can make | PowerPoint handoff | Internet and device |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canva slideshow maker | A photo-and-video montage with a soundtrack | Canva describes downloading a high-resolution MP4 from its slideshow workflow. | Not the primary slideshow workflow. Canva’s separate presentation editor can convert slides to PowerPoint; export fidelity was not tested. | Web-based editor. |
| Google Slides | Shared editing and a presentation that remains a deck | An online presentation that can be co-edited and presented. | Google says Slides can import PowerPoint files or edit them directly. | Browser and mobile access; offline creation and editing are available, but Slides is not offline-first. |
| LibreOffice Impress | Desktop authoring and a locally installed presentation app | A presentation or photo-based slide show. | The LibreOffice Impress 7.6 guide documents compatibility with .ppt and .pptx formats; it does not establish fidelity for every deck. | Desktop application; suited to a local workflow. |
These tools serve different purposes rather than forming a single ranking. Canva’s dedicated slideshow maker is the most directly aimed at a finished video. Google Slides and Impress are presentation editors, so they suit a deck you can revise and present slide by slide.

Canva: make a photo montage and download it as video
Canva’s slideshow maker describes a template-based workflow: add photos or video, choose a soundtrack, and download the result as an MP4. Canva currently says slideshow creation and downloads are free, downloads have no count limit, and designs carry no watermark. Those are Canva’s own claims about this workflow, not a promise that every template or media asset is free.
The page distinguishes free stock photos, video, and music from premium media available through Canva Pro. Check the label on each item before building a project around it; a free editor can still offer paid assets.

Check your photo and video files
Canva lists JPEG/JPG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF, and WebP as supported photo formats. Its stated limits are less than 50 MB and 250 million total pixels per image; only static WebP is accepted. Listed video formats are MOV, GIF, MP4, MPEG, MKV, and WEBM, with a maximum upload size of 1 GB. Limits can change, so verify the current requirements on Canva’s page if a file is rejected.
When Canva is less suitable
If someone needs to edit individual slides in PowerPoint, an MP4 is the wrong deliverable: it plays as a video rather than a deck. Canva has a separate presentation editor with templates, sharing, PNG/JPEG/PDF downloads, and conversion to PowerPoint or Google Slides. That offers a route to a presentation file, but conversion quality has not been established here; check the exported file before relying on it for a complex presentation.

Google Slides: collaborate on an editable deck
Google says anyone with a Google Account can create in Slides. Its product page describes co-editing, comments, action items, sharing controls, mobile access, and PowerPoint import or direct editing. That makes it a practical choice when several people need to assemble, revise, or review a photo presentation.
Slides also supports offline creation and editing, but it is a web-based tool with an offline option rather than a fully local-first desktop workflow. If you expect to work without a connection, set up offline access in advance and confirm the deck is available on the device you will use.

Google identifies recording, speaker spotlight, and some AI assistance as paid-plan or add-on features. They are not necessary for making a basic photo deck, but check the feature’s current availability if your workflow depends on one of them.
LibreOffice Impress: build a deck on your computer
LibreOffice Impress is the desktop option in this comparison. The official Impress Guide 7.6 identifies it as LibreOffice’s presentation and slideshow application, documents photo-based slide show creation, and lists support for formats including Microsoft PowerPoint .ppt and .pptx. Those details are specific to the 7.6 guide; check current LibreOffice documentation for the release you install.

Impress is the natural fit if you want to create and keep a presentation on your computer rather than work primarily in a browser. Format support does not guarantee that every complex PowerPoint deck will look identical after opening or saving. If layout fidelity matters, work on a copy and inspect the result in the intended presentation software before sharing it.

Projectors and presentation remotes are optional playback accessories; neither is needed to create the slideshow.
