For a modest, locally produced OBS stream, an Intel N100 mini PC is a reasonable low-power starting point—not a proven 24/7 winner. The ASUS NUC 14 Essential is one manufacturer-listed N100 configuration to investigate. But a processor’s 6 W TDP is not the power draw of the complete computer, and a specification sheet cannot establish reliable continuous streaming. First decide whether you need a local computer at all: if your channel only loops uploaded videos, a cloud service may be a better fit.
Choose the right kind of 24/7 stream first
Use a local mini PC for live production
A computer running OBS makes sense when the broadcast depends on a live camera, gameplay, a capture device, screen sharing, overlays, filters, or a mix of changing sources. The PC must remain powered and connected while it encodes and sends the stream.

Consider cloud looping for prerecorded video
If the channel only repeats uploaded recordings or a playlist, it may not need a computer at home encoding continuously. Why an Intel N100 mini PC is a candidate, not a verdict
What the specifications establish
Intel lists the N100 as a four-core, four-thread processor with a 6 W TDP and Quick Sync Video. ASUS lists N100 among the configurations for its NUC 14 Essential. Intel also lists 4K-at-60-Hz output support, but video output capability is not evidence that a particular OBS stream can be encoded at 4K60.

A compatible hardware encoder can offload encoding work from CPU-only software encoding, but do not assume OBS will expose or use it just because a machine has an N100. Check the operating system, drivers, OBS version, and the encoder options actually available on the exact unit.
What those specifications do not establish
The 6 W figure is the processor’s TDP, not the complete mini PC’s wall consumption. It does not establish the machine’s real power use, encoding quality, thermal or noise behavior, sustained performance for your scene, or ability to operate unattended for months. Intel cautions that capabilities can vary by system configuration and performance varies by use and configuration. OBS likewise warns: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Its CPU requirements vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity.

Treat the ASUS NUC 14 Essential as a manufacturer-documented configuration to check, not a tested winner. Before buying, confirm the precise SKU, included memory and storage, operating system, warranty, seller, and availability in your region. How to choose a mini PC for your workload
- Define the stream. Set the output resolution, frame rate, codec, audio sources, OBS scenes, overlays, and other applications you expect to run. A single static source is not the same workload as several moving sources and browser overlays.
- Confirm the complete configuration. Check that the exact mini PC has the memory, storage, operating system, network connection, and hardware encoder you intend to use. Verify that OBS recognizes the intended encoder with the installed driver.
- Test the real scene. Run representative movement, audio, overlays, and concurrent applications. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, not a guarantee that the selected settings are right.
- Measure whole-system power. Use a wall power meter while the machine is running the intended stream. A processor TDP or brief idle reading cannot substitute for an average measured during representative use.
- Check sustained behavior and recovery. Run an extended test, watch for thermal or encoding problems, and verify that the machine recovers after a restart or network interruption before relying on it unattended.
Set OBS and YouTube settings, then test the stream
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS. The exact encoder available in OBS depends on the operating system, drivers, and hardware configuration.

For H.264, YouTube Help recommends 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps and lists 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of stream health or a measure of mini PC performance. Its recommendations vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate. Check the current YouTube live encoder settings when configuring a broadcast.
- Check upload capacity. Run an internet speed test and ensure the connection can sustain the chosen stream bitrate with headroom for normal variation and other network use.
- Configure the encoder. In OBS, choose a codec supported by both your selected encoder and YouTube, set CBR, use the recommended two-second keyframe interval, and choose a resolution and frame rate the whole setup can sustain.
- Connect the stream securely. Use YouTube’s stream setup details and RTMPS where supported. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Test representative content. Before depending on the stream, include motion and audio similar to the real event and inspect YouTube’s stream health while it runs.
OBS system requirements also emphasizes that requirements depend on the encoder, resolution, FPS, and scene complexity; meeting basic system requirements alone does not guarantee streaming capability.
