Klaviyo and Omnisend are strong starting points for ecommerce-focused automation; Shopify Messaging suits merchants who want to work inside Shopify admin, while ActiveCampaign and Brevo are worth comparing when CRM or broader channel needs matter. There is no universal winner, and the prices reported in 2026 comparison guides differ, so check each provider’s current plans before choosing.
What to compare before choosing
Automation is only as useful as the store and customer information behind it. Compare platforms against the data they can access, the campaigns you intend to run, and how your team works—not just the number of templates or a headline price.

- Store-data integration: Check whether the platform syncs the customer, order, product, and inventory details your campaigns need.
- Automation depth: Look for the triggers and workflows relevant to your business, such as welcome messages, cart recovery, browse abandonment, post-purchase follow-ups, back-in-stock alerts, recommendations, and winback campaigns.
- Channels: Decide whether email is enough or whether you need SMS, web push, WhatsApp, or other messaging as part of the same workflow.
- Pricing basis: Compare contact or profile limits and email-send caps with your actual list size and monthly volume. A low starting price may not describe the plan your store needs.
- Customer data and team tools: Determine whether you need advanced segmentation, analytics, or a CRM as part of the platform.
- Store and workflow fit: Test shortlisted services with the same representative campaign and integration. Shopify recommends trying free versions or trials to assess usability and store integration (Shopify’s 2026 comparison).

Klaviyo: data-rich segmentation and personalized messaging
Shopify’s May 30, 2026 comparison describes Klaviyo’s Shopify data sync, prebuilt integrations, forms and automations, dynamic content, personalized product recommendations, SMS, and analytics. It reports a free plan for 250 contacts and a paid starting price of $15 per month. Omnisend’s Q3 2026 comparison instead reports a $20 monthly starting price. Because the sources give different figures and do not establish the same plan context, confirm current pricing for your contact volume and requirements rather than treating either figure as a guaranteed quote.
#1 Best Overall
Omnisend: ready-made ecommerce workflows across channels
Omnisend is positioned around ecommerce integrations, prebuilt workflows, dynamic product blocks, and email, SMS, and web push. Shopify’s May 2026 comparison reports a free plan for up to 250 contacts and 500 emails per month, with paid plans starting at $16 monthly; Omnisend’s Q3 2026 comparison also lists Standard at $16 monthly. Verify the current plan limits and inclusions with Omnisend’s pricing page.
Shopify Messaging: campaigns within Shopify admin
Shopify describes its Messaging tool as operating inside Shopify admin and using unified customer, inventory, and order data. Its May 2026 comparison reports 10,000 free emails per month, then a charge of $1 per 1,000 emails. This may suit a Shopify merchant seeking an embedded workflow; the comparison does not establish that it offers the same specialist automation depth as dedicated ecommerce platforms. Check Shopify’s current terms and pricing before relying on the reported allowance.
Rank #2
ActiveCampaign: automation with a native CRM
ActiveCampaign combines automation with a native CRM. Shopify’s comparison describes welcome series and cart-recovery automations, post-purchase emails, product catalog displays, optional SMS or WhatsApp, and integrations with more than 1,000 apps. It reports a 14-day trial and a $19 monthly starting price. Omnisend’s Q3 2026 comparison also notes store sync, purchase-triggered automations, CRM, and product recommendations. Consider it if customer relationship management is central to your workflow, and verify current plan details at ActiveCampaign’s pricing page.
Brevo: broader messaging and send-volume pricing
Brevo’s described capabilities include store sync, abandoned-cart automation, product recommendations, email, SMS, WhatsApp, push, chat, transactional email, and CRM. Shopify’s May 2026 article reports a free allowance of up to 500 emails monthly and a paid starting price of $19 per month; Omnisend’s Q3 2026 comparison reports send-volume billing and a $9 monthly starting figure. These figures are not directly reconciled by the sources, so compare the live plan against your expected sends and required features. Shopify also describes back-in-stock reminders, price-drop alerts, and predictive sending among Brevo’s features.
Rank #3
Other tools for particular needs
Shopify’s comparison also covers MailerLite, Drip, Constant Contact, HubSpot, Kit, and Mailchimp. Its descriptions point to MailerLite for a visual builder, workflows, segmentation, and Shopify product integration; Drip for ecommerce segmentation, cart recovery, and reporting; Constant Contact for cart reminders and product blocks; HubSpot for CRM and email tools; Kit for creator-oriented workflows; and Mailchimp for templates, SMS, integrations, and automations. Treat these as candidates for specific needs, not as ranked alternatives: the cited comparison does not provide consistent independent testing across all tools.
Match the platform to the campaigns you will automate
Common ecommerce workflows include welcome series, abandoned-cart messages, loyalty reminders, and back-in-stock alerts. Other useful candidates are browse-abandonment follow-ups, post-purchase messages, product recommendations, and winback campaigns. Before comparing plans, write down which triggers you need and what store data each one requires. For example, a back-in-stock alert depends on inventory information, while a post-purchase message depends on order activity.
A welcome series can also do more than offer a discount. Tique Chandler, founder of Chandler Honey, described sending newsletter sign-ups a short introduction to herself and the brand, followed later by recipes and other useful content, in Shopify’s 2026 article. That is one example of using an automated sequence to orient new subscribers rather than treating every message as a sales prompt.
How to make a practical choice
- List the workflows and channels you need. Separate essential campaigns from features you might use later, and identify whether SMS or push belongs in the same automation.
- Check the integration and data required. Confirm that the service connects to your store and can use the order, customer, product, or inventory fields your workflows depend on.
- Price your real usage. Use your current contact count and likely monthly sends to compare plan limits and paid tiers. Published starting prices are snapshots, not a substitute for a current quote.
- Run a representative trial or free plan. Build one workflow you expect to use—such as welcome or cart recovery—and check the editor, data sync, and reporting before migrating more of your marketing.
- Decide whether CRM is part of the requirement. If sales follow-up and customer records need to live alongside campaign automation, compare platforms with explicit CRM capabilities rather than choosing on email features alone.
How to interpret vendor performance claims
Omnisend’s 2026 article reports that automations accounted for 2% of emails and 30% of revenue attributed to email in its figures. This is a vendor-published claim; the cited passage does not supply enough methodology to treat it as a universal ecommerce benchmark or a forecast for an individual store. Use it as context for why automation may warrant attention, not as a promised outcome.
