Best Cyberpunk 2077 Graphics Settings for the ROG Xbox Ally X

A practical Cyberpunk 2077 setup for ROG Xbox Ally X, with separate plugged-in and battery profiles, benchmark context, FSR guidance and troubleshooting.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The most reliable starting point for Cyberpunk 2077 on the ROG Xbox Ally X is the Low or Steam Deck preset, ray tracing and path tracing disabled, and FSR upscaling enabled only when native 1080p is too demanding. Use a 40 or 60 FPS cap, then tune while plugged in and on battery separately. This is an evidence-based starting configuration, not a guarantee of one universal frame rate: published results vary substantially with wattage, preset, upscaler, driver features and test method.

Recommended starting profiles

Begin with the following two profiles. They are designed to give you a stable baseline before you trade image quality for more frames or battery life.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Option Plugged-in profile Battery profile
Power mode Turbo at 35 W Performance at 17 W
Resolution 1920×1080 if performance is acceptable 1920×1080 with FSR, or 1280×720 when longer battery life matters more
Graphics preset Low or Steam Deck Low or Steam Deck
Ray tracing and path tracing Off Off
Upscaling FSR 2.1 Auto when needed; native resolution if frame rate remains steady FSR 2.1 Auto or a more performance-oriented FSR mode
Frame generation Leave off while establishing a baseline Leave off while establishing a baseline
Frame-rate cap 40 FPS for consistency or 60 FPS for a higher-refresh feel 40 FPS as the first battery target; try 60 only if the game can hold it
Display refresh 120 Hz with a cap that the game can sustain 120 Hz, or a lower refresh option if your handheld exposes one and you want to reduce power use

Apply the profile, play the same demanding area for several minutes, and change one setting at a time. The Ally X has a 1080p 120 Hz touchscreen, so a stable 40 FPS or 60 FPS target can feel better than an uncapped rate that repeatedly jumps between highs and lows.

What the published tests actually show

There is no single authoritative Cyberpunk 2077 FPS number for the Ally X. The following measurements use different presets, wattage limits, scaling modes and software features, so they should be read as reference points rather than a head-to-head leaderboard.

Source and date Configuration Reported result
ASUS product benchmark page, accessed 2026 1080p, default graphics, RSR and FSR off, Turbo at 35 W while plugged in 40 FPS average
ASUS product benchmark page, accessed 2026 1080p, default graphics, RSR and FSR off, Performance at 17 W on battery 31 FPS average
Windows Central review, 2025 Low preset, 1080p, FSR 2.1 Auto, 8 GB VRAM allocation, 35 W plugged in, HYPR-RX defaults enabled, frame generation off Approximately 93.25 FPS
Windows Central review, 2025 Steam Deck preset under the same stated conditions Approximately 83.61 FPS
Windows Central review context, 2025 Steam Deck preset before enabling HYPR-RX defaults, compared with the same test after the software defaults were enabled Average increased from about 45 FPS to about 83 FPS
Tom’s Guide review, 2025 Medium-to-high details, 1080p, FSR resolution scaling after its adjustments About 50 FPS average
Tom’s Guide review, 2025 720p, Ultra preset, no scaling Far lower than its tuned 1080p FSR result; no exact figure was stated

These differences are expected. ASUS’s 40 FPS and 31 FPS figures deliberately disable both RSR and FSR and use a default preset. Windows Central’s much higher numbers use a Low or Steam Deck preset, FSR 2.1 Auto and HYPR-RX defaults at 35 W. Tom’s Guide changed both quality and scaling settings. None of these results proves that every Ally X will deliver the same average, and none should be treated as a population statistic.

Why power mode changes the answer

The ROG Xbox Ally X uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme platform, an 80 Wh battery and selectable operating modes. A 35 W Turbo limit while plugged in gives the processor and integrated graphics considerably more sustained power than a 17 W Performance limit on battery. ASUS’s own Cyberpunk rows show the direct consequence: 40 FPS average at 35 W versus 31 FPS at 17 W, with identical 1080p default settings and no upscaling.

Do not copy a plugged-in configuration to battery and assume only the battery percentage will change. At 17 W, the same scene may have lower minimums, more visible frame-time spikes and less headroom for crowds, driving sequences or dense interiors. A battery profile should therefore use a realistic cap and upscaling rather than trying to preserve every desktop-quality option.

How to configure the plugged-in profile

  1. Select Turbo mode. In the Ally X control interface, choose the 35 W Turbo mode only when the charger is connected and the extra heat, fan noise and power draw are acceptable.
  2. Open the game’s graphics settings. Start from the Low preset or the preset labelled Steam Deck. These presets reduce expensive effects while retaining the game’s lighting and material pipeline.
  3. Disable ray tracing and path tracing. Both options consume substantial GPU headroom. Turn them back on only after you have established a frame rate you consider acceptable without them.
  4. Set 1920×1080 output. Use native 1080p first if you are checking image quality. If the frame rate is unstable, keep the display output at 1080p and enable FSR rather than immediately dropping the panel resolution.
  5. Enable FSR 2.1 Auto if needed. Windows Central’s measured Steam Deck and Low results used FSR 2.1 Auto. Upscaling renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the 1080p output, so clarity and performance depend on the selected mode and the game’s current version.
  6. Leave frame generation off during baseline testing. FSR upscaling and frame generation are separate features. The Windows Central figures cited here used frame generation off, so they cannot be used to promise a particular result with frame generation enabled.
  7. Choose a cap. Start at 60 FPS if you want the most responsive feel and the game can remain near that level. Choose 40 FPS when you prefer consistent pacing and lower power demand. An uncapped setting can make the average look impressive while exposing large swings in busy scenes.
  8. Test one repeatable scene. Walk through the same crowded district, drive the same route, or revisit the same combat encounter for several minutes. Watch the 1% lows or frame-time graph if your overlay provides one, not just the headline average.

If native 1080p at the Low or Steam Deck preset holds your chosen cap, keep FSR off for the cleaner image. If it does not, FSR 2.1 Auto is the least disruptive first adjustment because it preserves a 1080p output while reducing internal rendering cost.

How to configure the battery profile

  1. Switch to Performance at 17 W. ASUS’s battery comparison uses this mode. Expect less performance than the 35 W plugged-in profile and plan around sustained frame rate rather than short bursts.
  2. Keep ray tracing and path tracing off. These effects are poor candidates for a battery-first configuration because they reduce headroom that could otherwise support steadier frame times.
  3. Use the Low or Steam Deck preset. Start here instead of trying to run Ultra and compensating only with a lower resolution. The Tom’s Guide comparison shows why: its 720p Ultra, no-scaling result was far slower than its tuned medium-to-high 1080p FSR result.
  4. Enable FSR. Use Auto first, then select a more performance-oriented mode if the game still misses your cap. Inspect foliage, thin geometry and subtitles for shimmering after every change.
  5. Cap at 40 FPS. This is a practical starting target for battery play, not a manufacturer-guaranteed optimum. If 40 is not sustainable in your chosen scene, try 30; if the game remains comfortably above 60, you can test a 60 cap.
  6. Reduce output resolution only when necessary. A 720p output can extend performance headroom, but it is visibly softer on a 1080p panel. Keep 1080p output with FSR when readability and image stability matter more than maximum battery time.
  7. Retest after changing the cap. A lower cap can reduce unnecessary GPU work and fan noise. It cannot create performance that the 17 W limit does not provide, so measure the demanding sections of your own save.

ASUS’s heavy-AAA battery procedure for Cyberpunk uses 1080p, Low graphics and a 60 FPS cap in 17 W Performance mode. ASUS does not publish a Cyberpunk-specific runtime in the cited data, so do not convert that test setup into a promised number of hours.

What each important setting does

Graphics preset

The Low and Steam Deck presets are useful baselines because they make many changes at once. Low generally gives the most GPU headroom, while Steam Deck is a balanced starting point for a handheld display. The Windows Central results show approximately 93.25 FPS on Low and 83.61 FPS on Steam Deck under its FSR and HYPR-RX test conditions. That gap is evidence that the preset matters, not a guarantee that your Ally X will reproduce either average.

Ray tracing and path tracing

Ray tracing adds more accurate reflections, shadows and lighting at a high rendering cost. Path tracing is an even heavier lighting mode. Disable both while you are pursuing a 40 or 60 FPS target. Re-enable individual ray-traced options only after checking the same scene with your cap and upscaler already settled.

Resolution and render scale

Output resolution is what the panel displays; render scale is the internal resolution used before the image is reconstructed. Lowering output to 720p can improve performance but makes text and fine edges softer on the Ally X’s 1080p screen. FSR lets you retain a 1080p output while lowering internal work, although aggressive modes can introduce shimmering or a softer image.

FSR upscaling

FSR 2.1 Auto was part of Windows Central’s measured configuration, and Tom’s Guide also reports a tuned result using FSR resolution scaling. The exact gain depends on the selected mode, movement in the scene, driver behavior and the game’s build. Treat Auto as a starting point, not as proof that every FSR mode will deliver the same quality.

Frame generation

Frame generation creates additional displayed frames from rendered frames; it is not the same as rendering at a lower resolution with FSR. Because the cited Windows Central test explicitly disabled frame generation, its 83.61 FPS and 93.25 FPS figures should not be described as frame-generation results. Establish native input responsiveness and frame pacing first, then evaluate any frame-generation option on its own merits.

HYPR-RX defaults and VRAM allocation

Windows Central observed about 45 FPS on the Steam Deck preset before enabling HYPR-RX defaults and about 83 FPS afterward, using the same stated test conditions. That large reviewer-observed change demonstrates that software defaults can matter as much as an in-game slider. It is not a universal guarantee. The same test specified an 8 GB VRAM allocation, so do not assume a different allocation will produce the same result.

Choosing between 40 FPS and 60 FPS

A 40 FPS cap is often the more realistic target when you want consistent motion at 17 W or when a demanding area repeatedly dips below 60. It also reduces the amount of work the GPU performs after it has reached the cap. A 60 FPS cap is preferable when the game can sustain it and you value lower input latency, but it can increase power use and expose more frequent drops.

Do not judge a cap from an empty room or a short benchmark run. Cyberpunk’s heaviest moments can arrive during driving, combat, crowds and weather transitions. Test those situations and select the highest cap that remains stable for your play style. The 120 Hz panel can display both 40 and 60 FPS cleanly, but the panel’s refresh rate does not make the game render at either rate.

Troubleshooting common performance problems

The game is below 40 FPS even on Low

  • Confirm that the Ally X is actually in the intended 35 W Turbo or 17 W Performance mode rather than a quieter lower-power mode.
  • Verify that ray tracing and path tracing are disabled.
  • Enable FSR 2.1 Auto and retest the same scene.
  • Check that an external overlay or recording feature has not changed the power or graphics profile.
  • Lower the cap to 30 FPS if the 17 W battery mode cannot sustain 40 in your scene.

The average is high but motion feels uneven

  • Apply a 40 or 60 FPS cap instead of running uncapped.
  • Compare frame-time behavior in a crowded area, not only the average shown after a short run.
  • Reduce the preset one step or move FSR from Auto to a more performance-oriented mode.
  • Check whether the game is alternating between power modes or changing profiles while unplugged.

The picture looks soft or shimmers

  • Move from a more aggressive FSR mode to Auto.
  • Keep 1080p output and avoid lowering the panel resolution unless battery life is the priority.
  • Compare Low and Steam Deck presets at the same resolution and cap; changing several variables at once makes the cause difficult to identify.

Battery life is shorter than expected

  • Use a 40 or 30 FPS cap rather than leaving the game uncapped.
  • Stay in 17 W Performance mode and keep ray tracing off.
  • Reduce screen brightness and disable unnecessary background overlays.
  • Remember that ASUS does not state a Cyberpunk-specific runtime for the cited battery test, so published heavy-AAA battery figures cannot be converted into an exact expectation for this game.

Using Xbox handheld profiles

Xbox’s Default Game Profiles can automate TDP and FPS targets for supported games while running on battery. The cited Xbox Wire documentation does not establish that Cyberpunk 2077 is on the supported-title list for your Ally X. Open the handheld’s own profile interface and check whether the game appears before relying on automation. If it is absent, set the 17 W mode, cap and graphics options manually.

Xbox reported that its Handheld Compatibility program covered more than 1,000 PC games as of the April 30, 2026 update. That is platform context, not a Cyberpunk performance measurement, and broad compatibility coverage does not imply that every game has a customized power profile.

A repeatable tuning method

  1. Close background applications and connect the charger if you are measuring the 35 W profile.
  2. Record the current mode, preset, resolution, FSR mode, VRAM allocation and frame-generation state.
  3. Use one demanding route or encounter and play it for at least several minutes.
  4. Record average FPS, the lowest sustained behavior you notice and image-quality problems such as shimmer or ghosting.
  5. Change only one variable: preset, FSR mode, resolution, cap or power mode.
  6. Repeat the same route and compare frame time, not only average FPS.
  7. Save separate plugged-in and battery profiles so a Windows or handheld update does not silently apply the wrong target.

This method explains why published numbers differ and gives you a configuration that reflects your own save, display brightness, driver version and preferred balance between clarity, smoothness and battery use.

Bottom line settings

For a first launch, choose the Low or Steam Deck preset, disable ray tracing and path tracing, keep 1080p output, enable FSR 2.1 Auto if native rendering misses your target, and cap at 40 or 60 FPS. Use Turbo 35 W when plugged in and Performance 17 W on battery. ASUS’s no-upscaling results establish a roughly 40 FPS plugged-in and 31 FPS battery baseline under its stated conditions, while Windows Central’s FSR and HYPR-RX configuration shows how much software settings can change the result. Tune from those baselines rather than treating any published number as guaranteed.
