HIDIVE is the clearest anime-focused alternative to Crunchyroll, while Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video are worth checking for particular new releases. None is a guaranteed one-for-one replacement: rights, release timing, subtitles, dubs and subscription access vary by show and country. Before paying for a service, confirm that it has the exact series and episode you want in your region.
Which Crunchyroll alternative should you check first?
Start with the anime you want to watch, not with a platform’s general reputation. If you want another anime-specialist service to check, look at HIDIVE. If you have a particular new or exclusive series in mind, check Netflix, Hulu in the United States, Disney+ in some international markets, and Amazon Prime Video title by title. A show’s appearance on one of these services does not mean its full season, latest episode or preferred language version is available there.

For currently airing anime, the key question is whether a service is releasing the episode close to its Japanese broadcast. That is different from simply having the series in its catalog. A platform can be a good place to watch selected anime without being a dependable source for every new seasonal episode.

How the alternatives compare
The services below differ in role as much as in catalog. The strongest practical distinction is between a dedicated anime option and broader streaming services that carry selected anime. Availability can also change between countries, language versions and release dates.
| Service | Best reason to check it | What is established about new anime | What to verify before subscribing |
|---|---|---|---|
| HIDIVE | An anime-specialist option for seasonal and exclusive titles. | HIDIVE reported an expanded partnership with Mainichi Broadcasting System on August 19, 2026, including an exclusive output deal covering a multi-year slate. That announcement does not establish availability of any particular series in every territory. | The exact title, country, episode schedule, language options and access terms. |
| Netflix | A title-specific check for anime distributed on the service. | VIZ lists Netflix among platforms streaming its anime. That does not make Netflix a complete substitute for a simulcast-first catalog. | Whether the series is in your local catalog, when new episodes arrive, and whether the version you want is available. |
| Hulu | A U.S.-specific check for releases licensed to Hulu. | VIZ announced Hulu-exclusive U.S. distribution for BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity, with a scheduled premiere of July 25, 2026. | U.S. availability, current episode status, and the series’ exact access requirements. |
| Disney+ | A check for certain anime licensed in international markets. | The same VIZ announcement named Disney+ in select international markets for the BLEACH release. It did not promise Disney+ availability in every country. | Whether your country is among the relevant markets and whether the title is currently available there. |
| Amazon Prime Video | A title-by-title search for licensed anime. | VIZ lists Amazon Prime Video among platforms carrying its anime, while warning that platform availability varies. | Whether the title is included with your local subscription, sold separately or accessed through another channel, plus language and release details. |
VIZ’s platform information warns that availability may vary by platform, country, and dubbed or subtitled version, and may change. The table therefore points you toward services to check; it is not a guarantee that a title is available now.
HIDIVE: the anime-focused alternative
HIDIVE is the most direct anime-specialist alternative supported by the available service information. Its August 19, 2026 announcement described an expanded partnership with Mainichi Broadcasting System and an exclusive output deal for a multi-year slate. That makes HIDIVE worth checking when you are following seasonal anime or searching for a title that may be exclusive to a particular distributor.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The partnership announcement is not a current episode schedule or a complete catalog. It does not establish which specific shows are included, when their episodes release, or where each title can be streamed. Treat it as evidence that the service is pursuing a slate of anime, not as proof that a show you want is available in your country.
When HIDIVE is a good fit
- You want to check a second anime-specialist service rather than relying on a general entertainment catalog.
- You have one or more named seasonal or exclusive titles to verify.
- You are comfortable deciding title by title instead of expecting one service to carry every new show.
What to confirm
Search the service for the full series title and season, then confirm the latest episode’s release date and the available subtitles or dub. If an announcement or listing does not clearly show your territory, do not assume the rights are worldwide. Check the service’s own current listing for your location before starting a paid plan.

Netflix: useful for specific anime, not a universal simulcast substitute
VIZ includes Netflix among the services streaming its anime, so it belongs on the list when you are looking for a particular newly released or exclusive title. That evidence supports checking Netflix, but not treating it as a comprehensive source for all anime airing in Japan or all episodes released concurrently with Japanese broadcasts.
For a series you are tracking, check the local Netflix listing and episode dates rather than relying on a general description such as “new anime.” The phrase can mean a new-to-you catalog addition, a full-season release or an episode arriving on an ongoing schedule. Those release patterns are not interchangeable if you want to watch weekly alongside a Japanese broadcast.
Use Netflix when the title is the priority
If Netflix has the specific show you want, compare its local release timing and language options with your viewing needs. If it does not show the current season or the next episode date you expect, do not infer that the service will add it later; check for another authorized platform in your territory.
Hulu and Disney+: check the country attached to the license
Hulu and Disney+ illustrate why a streaming recommendation needs a country attached to it. In a July 1, 2026 announcement, VIZ said BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity would premiere on July 25, 2026 at 7:30 a.m. PDT exclusively on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ in select international markets. The announced premiere date has passed; this is a concrete example of regional distribution, not confirmation of the title’s present availability in every market.
The announcement is specific to that BLEACH arc. It should not be generalized into a claim that Hulu carries the series everywhere, that Disney+ carries it worldwide, or that either service is a complete anime simulcast destination. To use the example practically, search the service available in your country and verify the current season and episode listing.

VIZ General Manager Brian Ige described the installment this way: “BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity marks a pivotal moment in the final arc of this extraordinary story, bringing audiences closer than ever to its long-awaited conclusion.” The quote is promotional context; it does not add a guarantee about present-day access or release timing.

U.S. viewers
For Hulu, confirm that the exact season is listed and check whether the episode you want is available now. The VIZ announcement established U.S.-exclusive Hulu distribution for the named BLEACH release, not a general rule for other anime.
Viewers outside the United States
Check Disney+ only if it serves your market, and verify the show in that country’s catalog. “Select international markets” is narrower than worldwide availability, so the U.S. Hulu announcement is not a reliable guide to a viewer elsewhere.
Amazon Prime Video: verify how the title is sold or accessed
VIZ lists Amazon Prime Video among platforms streaming its anime, but warns that availability varies. This makes Prime Video a reasonable place to search for a named series, not a service to assume will carry every new season in the same way in every country.
Before you decide based on a search result, inspect the title page for the actual access method. A title may be included in a local subscription, offered for separate purchase, or available through a separate channel. Those are different costs and entitlements. Do not assume that a Prime Video listing means the episodes are included in the subscription you already pay for.

Check the listed season, episode dates and language options as well. A title page for an older season is not proof that the latest season is available, and a subtitled listing may not include the dub you prefer.
What “new anime” means when you compare services
Streaming pages use “new” in ways that matter to viewers. A series can be newly added to a catalog without being a current seasonal simulcast. A new season can be available in full after a delay, while another service may release episodes on a weekly schedule. If keeping up with the latest broadcast matters, verify the timing rather than relying on a “new” label.
Crunchyroll’s release calendar describes its aim as providing access to the latest anime and drama on the same day they are broadcast in Japan. Its calendar separates “Premium Episodes” from “Free New Episodes,” and directs viewers to Premium for the latest simulcast episodes. The calendar’s schedule can change; its listing showed “Schedule Coming Soon” for entries at the time reflected in the available information. Check the live calendar for a specific title, date and access tier before using it as a release-time reference.
A simulcast means an episode released at the same time it airs in Japan. If that is your requirement, ask whether the alternative service has a confirmed same-day release for the series, not simply whether it carries the series eventually. The available platform information does not establish a complete current schedule across the alternatives.

- Write down the exact title and season. Include the arc or season name if the service lists multiple installments. For sequels, do not assume the latest season is on the same platform as earlier episodes.
- Search the services available in your country. Start with the title page or current schedule on the service itself. A distributor’s general platform list can identify candidates, but it is not proof of current local availability.
- Check the episode you want. Confirm the latest episode number, posted date and next expected release if listed. A series page alone may only establish that some episodes are present.
- Decide what release timing you need. If you want to watch alongside the Japanese broadcast, look for an explicit same-day or simulcast indication. If you are willing to wait, a later or full-season release may still meet your needs.
- Confirm subtitles and dubs separately. Check the language options on the title in your region. A platform’s availability of a series does not establish that every dubbed or subtitled version is offered there.
- Check the access tier and total cost. Confirm whether the episode is free, included in a subscription, behind a paid tier, or sold separately. Do not treat a platform listing as proof of subscription inclusion.
- Recheck close to release. Rights, schedules and catalogs can change. For an upcoming premiere, verify the service listing again near the stated release date.
If a title cannot be found, search by its alternate English or Japanese title where the service supports it, then check an official distributor announcement. If you still cannot confirm your territory or release date, treat availability as unverified rather than subscribing on the assumption that it will appear.
Choosing based on how you watch
You follow several shows each season
Make a short list of the titles you will actually watch, then check each one across the candidate services. A service that has one desired exclusive may be worthwhile to you; it does not automatically replace the service carrying the rest of your weekly lineup. The evidence does not support ranking these platforms by total catalog size.
You want one particular exclusive
Start with the distributor’s dated announcement and the current local service listing. The BLEACH example shows how one title can have different named services by region. Use that as a prompt to verify the exact country, not as a template for other shows.
You care more about dubbed episodes
Check language availability on the series page, not just the platform’s overall anime offering. A subtitle release and a dub can have different availability or timing; the available evidence does not establish a universal dub schedule across these services.
You are willing to wait for a season
Broader streaming services may still be useful if your priority is a particular show rather than same-day episodes. Verify whether the full season or only selected episodes are present, and whether the release is in your local catalog.
Watching on a television
A compatible TV app or streaming device can make anime easier to watch on a television, but hardware does not change which service owns the streaming rights. Crunchyroll lists Fire TV among its supported platforms. That supports Fire TV as one possible way to access Crunchyroll on a television; it does not verify a particular Fire TV Stick generation, establish support for every alternative service or replace any subscription or other access requirement. Check device compatibility for the service you intend to use before buying hardware.
What the available information does not establish
There is no verified current price comparison for these services, no complete Fall 2026 title-by-title grid across platforms, and no basis here for ranking them by library size or subscriber count. The evidence identifies credible places to check and examples of how licensing can differ; it does not establish that any one service carries every new anime.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCatalogs, release schedules, language versions, subscription tiers and device support can change. VIZ’s platform information specifically cautions that availability varies by platform, country and dubbed or subtitled version. Treat an old announcement as evidence of a distribution plan at its stated date, then verify present availability in the service’s own catalog.
