Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →There is no single best CPU for every video-editing and graphic-design workflow. For Windows versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects, Adobe recommends modern Intel processors with Quick Sync or newer AMD Ryzen and Threadripper families; those recommendations set a compatibility baseline, not a performance ranking. The right choice depends on your applications, footage codecs, resolution, and whether your work is CPU-heavy, GPU-heavy, or both.
How to choose a CPU for creative work
Start with the work you actually do rather than the largest core count or highest advertised clock speed. Adobe’s hardware guide distinguishes the workloads this way: clock speed matters more for After Effects, while multiple cores have more impact for Premiere Pro. That is broad guidance, not a guarantee that one processor will be faster in every project.

- Premiere Pro: Consider the number of cores alongside support for the codecs in your footage, especially H.264 and H.265/HEVC.
- After Effects: Favor a strong balance of clock speed and core count; compositions, effects, and previews can respond differently to CPU resources.
- Photoshop and graphic design: A flagship CPU is not automatically necessary. Consider image dimensions, demanding filters, multitasking, GPU and display needs, and budget.
- Several applications at once: Account for the combined workload and leave room in the budget for memory, graphics, and storage rather than spending everything on the processor.
Adobe identifies Intel Quick Sync as useful for H.264/H.265 workflows in Premiere and After Effects. If your projects use those formats, check that the specific Intel CPU and software configuration support the acceleration you need; do not assume that a higher core count alone settles the choice. See Adobe’s hardware guide for professional video and audio.

A CPU upgrade may not solve slow playback, previews, or exports if another component is the constraint. Adobe’s hardware guide puts RAM, GPU, and storage ahead of CPU in its upgrade priority orders. For Premiere, Adobe’s current recommended configuration also calls for 8 GB of GPU memory and a separate high-speed media drive. For 4K-and-higher Premiere and After Effects work, Adobe recommends 32 GB or more RAM.

Check future operating-system requirements before planning a long-lived system
Adobe’s August 27, 2026 notice says version 27.0 of its covered video and audio applications will require Windows 11 24H2 or later on Windows and macOS 15 or later on Apple silicon on Mac. The notice also says Intel-based Macs will not support v27.0 and later. These are announced future requirements; they are not the requirements listed for the Premiere 26.x versions above. Adobe’s recommendations can help rule out unsuitable configurations, but they cannot identify the fastest or best-value exact CPU. For that, compare recent benchmarks that match your own applications and media, and check local prices at the time of purchase. Useful tests should disclose the application version, codec, resolution, export settings, memory, GPU, and price date. Without comparable results under those conditions, a universal winner or price/performance claim is not established.
