For US buyers seeking lifetime coverage, RIDGID’s Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA) is the clearest conditional option among these brands—not an unconditional lifetime warranty on every tool. Bosch, Milwaukee, FLEX, and Makita publish substantial fixed-term coverage for certain tool categories, while DEWALT’s limited lifetime warranty applies to qualifying hand tools, not generally to cordless power tools. The right comparison is the warranty for the exact tool, battery, and kit you plan to buy.
How the cordless-tool warranty terms compare
This comparison reflects US-facing manufacturer information accessed October 7, 2026. Milwaukee’s cited terms cover the US and Canada, as do FLEX’s. Terms can vary by model, kit, seller, region, and purchase date; check the current warranty for the specific product before buying.

| Brand or program | Published coverage in the reviewed source | Battery and charger coverage | Key conditions and cautions |
|---|---|---|---|
| RIDGID Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA) | Lifetime service for eligible products, after approval | Qualifying batteries are included | Eligibility depends on the product and purchase. The original owner must register within 90 days, provide proof of purchase and product details, and receive approval. Some coverage is tied to The Home Depot. Replacement equipment may need to be registered within 90 days. Verify that the exact kit qualifies. |
| Bosch 18V | Five years for 18V cordless tools and chargers | Three years for 18V batteries | The US schedule excludes, among other things, normal wear and damage associated with non-genuine parts or unauthorized repairs. A claim requires returning the complete tool to a Bosch service center or authorized station. |
| Milwaukee | Five years for many electric power tools | Cordless battery packs are excluded from the general five-year tool warranty; separate battery terms apply | The cited warranty applies in the US and Canada, with product exceptions. Proof of purchase helps verify coverage. Registration is not required for the applicable power-tool warranty. |
| FLEX 24V | Three years standard, or five years after qualifying registration within 30 days | The same three- or five-year schedule applies to 24V tools, batteries, and chargers | Available terms cover the US and Canada. Proof of purchase is required for registration. Legacy 12V and 18V products and corded products have different terms. |
| Makita lithium-ion | Three years from original purchase, as stated in Makita USA’s FAQ | Generally three years under that FAQ | ConnectX portable backpack power supplies are identified as an exception, with a two-year term. Check the exact product warranty. |
| DEWALT | No general lifetime term for cordless power tools is established by the limited lifetime hand-tool warranty | Coverage is product-specific | The limited lifetime wording applies to products that carry that warranty and specified hand tools. Under that wording, electrical and electronic components are capped at one year. Check the warranty for the exact cordless model. |
What “lifetime” means for RIDGID
RIDGID’s Lifetime Service Agreement is a conditional service program for eligible products. It may provide free service and parts, including coverage for qualifying cordless batteries, but a tool does not qualify merely because it carries the RIDGID name. Product and purchase eligibility, timely registration, approval, and continued original ownership all matter. The program is therefore best understood as a lifetime service agreement with enrollment rules—not a blanket promise covering every RIDGID product for every owner.

Why battery terms can change the comparison
A tool’s warranty term does not necessarily apply to its battery. Bosch’s published 18V schedule, for example, gives tools and chargers five years but batteries three. Milwaukee expressly excludes cordless battery packs from its general five-year power-tool term and treats batteries separately. FLEX’s listed 24V schedule applies the same three- or five-year period to tools, batteries, and chargers, depending on qualifying registration.
When comparing kits, look up the warranty for each included component rather than assuming the longest advertised term covers the whole kit. Battery coverage can also have its own conditions, so check the applicable battery terms alongside the tool terms.

Registration, proof of purchase, and service logistics
Registration deadlines can determine whether a buyer receives the longer stated coverage. RIDGID requires registration within 90 days for LSA consideration; FLEX requires qualifying registration within 30 days for its five-year 24V term. Milwaukee’s applicable general power-tool warranty does not require registration, although proof of purchase can help establish coverage. These are different rules, not interchangeable examples of a universal warranty process.
Also consider what a claim requires. Bosch’s reviewed terms call for returning the complete tool to a Bosch service center or authorized station. RIDGID requires eligibility, documentation, and approval for LSA coverage. Before relying on any warranty, read the exact model’s instructions for proof of purchase, seller eligibility, required accessories or kit components, shipping or service locations, and how replacements are handled.

DEWALT’s hand-tool warranty is not a cordless-tool lifetime warranty
DEWALT’s limited lifetime wording applies to qualifying products that state they carry that warranty, including specified hand tools. It should not be extended to cordless drills, saws, batteries, or other power tools based on the brand’s headline. The reviewed terms also cap coverage for electrical and electronic components at one year under that hand-tool warranty wording. For a cordless product, use its specific warranty rather than the hand-tool promise.
How to choose based on warranty value
- Choose on conditional lifetime service: Consider RIDGID if the exact product qualifies, you are comfortable with its purchase and registration rules, and you can preserve the original-owner and documentation requirements.
- Compare fixed terms by component: Bosch, Milwaukee, FLEX, and Makita provide published multi-year examples, but tool, battery, and charger coverage may differ. FLEX’s longer five-year term depends on qualifying registration within 30 days.
- Check the seller and region: Eligibility and warranty language can depend on where the product is bought and where it is used. This comparison is US-focused, not a guarantee of identical terms elsewhere.
- Weigh service requirements as well as duration: A longer term is useful only if the product qualifies and you can meet the claim requirements. Consider documentation, registration, ownership rules, exclusions, and service logistics.
Published duration alone does not establish claim approval rates, repair turnaround, or customer satisfaction. The available terms support comparing written coverage, not ranking which brand handles claims fastest or most successfully.
