The right small soundbar is the one that fits your actual space and your TV’s audio connections—not simply the shortest one on a list. For a compact all-rounder, RTINGS names the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) its best small soundbar pick. For the smallest footprint, its guide points to the 14-inch Roku Streambar; for a small room where Dolby Atmos matters, it selects the Bose Smart Soundbar. Each choice involves a different trade-off in bass, channel layout, features and expansion.
Start by measuring the available surface and checking your TV’s audio outputs. Then choose between a simple one-bar setup and a system that can grow with a subwoofer or rear speakers. The dimensions and product details below come from manufacturer pages or named reviewers; this publisher has not conducted hands-on listening tests.

How to choose a soundbar for a small space
Small soundbars can improve TV dialogue without taking over a desk or media console, but a smaller cabinet usually means less bass output, loudness and soundstage width than a larger system. RTINGS notes that compact bars can suit desks and small rooms but may not fill a large, open-plan area. Its 2026 guide says it has tested more than 255 soundbars; that is RTINGS’ own testing count, not an industry-wide sample. RTINGS’ small-soundbar guide

Check the width between TV stand legs or the console edges, the height below the screen, and the depth available. Also account for cable connectors, wall-mount clearance and whether the bar might block the TV’s infrared sensor. A bar that fits by width can still be too tall for a low TV stand.

Match the connection and audio format to your TV
If you plan to connect over HDMI, confirm that the TV has an HDMI ARC or eARC port and check which audio formats it can pass through. A supported format on the bar does not guarantee the TV, its settings and the content source will deliver it. Optical can be an alternative when a model and TV both support it, but confirm format compatibility rather than assuming every connection carries the same audio.
The Beam supports HDMI eARC/ARC. Yamaha lists eARC/ARC, optical and AUX for its B200A. For the Bose Smart Soundbar, verify the connection configuration on the product page for the specific version you are considering. - 【Distraction-Free Viewing Experience】Soft, subtle LED indicators on the right side stay out of sight during movies or shows, so your tv sound bar enhances audio without flashing lights ruining the mood—pure immersion, zero glare.
- 【Smart Standby Mode】The soundbar's red indicator light indicates safe standby mode. It consumes minimal power and will not affect the product's lifespan. You do not need to unplug it when not in use.
Decide how much system you want
A one-bar setup keeps the footprint simple. A separate subwoofer can add bass, while rear speakers can add surround capability, but both take up space and increase the system’s total cost. Decide before choosing whether you want a fixed compact setup or the option to expand later.

Atmos support does not mean the Beam has dedicated height channels: RTINGS says it lacks height channels. Choose it for its compact size, dialogue tools and documented expansion options, not on the assumption that the Atmos label guarantees overhead effects.

Bose lists the Smart Soundbar at 27.34 × 2.21 × 4.09 inches and 6.91 pounds, with five speakers, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and Dolby Atmos. Bose suggests a 10-by-12-foot room; that is the manufacturer’s guidance, not an independently verified room-size limit or guarantee. RTINGS identifies it as its small Dolby Atmos pick and says it uses up-firing drivers for height information. The reviewer also says its soundstage is not as wide as the Beam’s and that its customization is less extensive than Samsung’s. Bose Smart Soundbar product page · RTINGS’ evaluation
Bose lists bass-module and wall-bracket accessories. Consider them only if you have room for the added hardware and want the corresponding setup; neither is necessary for every small-room installation.

Samsung HW-S60D: more room and sound adjustment
RTINGS’ mid-range small-bar pick is about 27 inches wide and includes automatic room correction, a manual graphic EQ, channel adjustments, Bluetooth and a remote. RTINGS says its stereo soundstage is narrower than the Beam’s. Check that the HW-S60D and its exact suffix are sold in your country before comparing prices or specifications. RTINGS’ Samsung assessment
Roku Streambar: the shortest option, with a simpler sound format
At 14 inches wide, the Roku Streambar is RTINGS’ smallest listed bar. Its integrated Roku streamer can make it useful when a compact TV setup also needs streaming hardware. The compromise is its 2.0-channel layout: RTINGS notes that it has no dedicated center or surround channels and is better suited to voice-focused content than cinematic impact. Sony HT-S2000: compact-oriented, but check the surface first
What Hi-Fi? describes the Sony HT-S2000 as fairly compact and lists HDMI eARC, Bluetooth 5.2, a 3.1-channel arrangement and virtualized height effects. The available information here does not establish a width for it, so measure against the manufacturer’s current specifications before choosing it for a narrow console. Bluesound Pulse Cinema Mini: prioritizes sound over minimum width
TechRadar reviewer Simon Cohen reports a 33.3-inch width for the Bluesound Pulse Cinema Mini, compared with 25.6 inches for the Beam Gen 2 and 27.3 inches for the Bose Smart Soundbar. Cohen says he used it for a week in a basement media room and discusses its sound and music performance. That assessment is his review, not a listening test by this publisher. Its reported width makes it a less obvious fit when console space is the primary constraint. TechRadar’s review by Simon Cohen
Quick Recap
Use this checklist before buying
- Measure width, height and depth: include stand legs, screen clearance, cables and wall-mount space.
- Check TV output: confirm HDMI ARC/eARC or another shared connection, then verify which formats the TV can pass through.
- Choose the sound layout you need: distinguish a 2.0 bar from a system with a center channel, surround speakers or height effects. Atmos branding alone does not establish identical hardware or results.
- Set bass expectations: a compact one-bar design may have less deep bass than a larger system. A subwoofer can help, but needs its own space.
- Consider daily controls: decide whether Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, streaming, a physical remote, dialogue enhancement or manual EQ matter to your setup.
- Check expansion and total footprint: optional subwoofers and rear speakers add capability as well as cost and occupied space.
- Confirm regional details: model suffixes, availability and product configurations can vary by market. Recheck the exact version and current stock before ordering.
