The SCP Wiki remains the reference point: its fiction centers on an organization documenting anomalous things, while The Backrooms Wiki builds around the idea of an unsettling, fictional place. Their entry processes differ, too, so choose by both setting and how you want to participate.
Which collaborative horror fiction sites are worth considering?
| Community | Fictional premise | Writing and review | Joining |
|---|---|---|---|
| SCP Foundation Wiki | A fictional organization studies and conceals anomalous objects and beings. Its newcomer guide says stories can contradict one another; some share settings, but there is no single required canon. | Contributors use a sandbox for drafts and are expected to submit broadly complete work. Community voting can lead to a page being deleted if it falls below the site’s threshold. | Consult the official newcomer and writing guides for current participation instructions. |
| The Backrooms Wiki | A collaborative fiction community built around the Backrooms; its joining page states, “The Backrooms are not real.” | The joining page points applicants to the Site Rules and Greenlight Policy. It does not describe a comparable voting or deletion process. | Read the rules and greenlight policy, create a Wikidot account, join the community Discord for verification, provide the requested information, and wait for an invitation. The page states members must be at least 16. |
These are practical options, not a comprehensive ranking of every horror-writing community. The official pages reviewed do not provide comparable current membership or story-output figures, so popularity claims would be unsupported.

What makes the SCP Wiki different?
The SCP Wiki describes itself as a collaborative writing site about the SCP Foundation, a fictional organization that investigates and contains anomalous phenomena. Horror and creepypasta are part of its roots, but the newcomer guide says the writing has expanded into other forms and genres. This gives contributors room to approach the setting in different ways rather than follow one mandatory story continuity. Read the SCP Wiki’s Guide for Newcomers to understand its premise and find starting points.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor writers, the process is more than posting a draft. The Guide For Writing recommends drafting in the sandbox, expects submissions to be broadly complete, and explains that community voting can result in work being deleted if it falls below the site’s threshold. That structure makes the SCP Wiki a better fit if you are prepared to revise and have your work publicly evaluated.

There is also an important authorship rule: the SCP Wiki prohibits generative machine-learning writing, including AI-assisted revision. Co-authored pages need attribution. Check the current Site Rules and the Guide Hub before contributing; rules and instructions can change.
How do you join The Backrooms Wiki?
The Backrooms Wiki’s official joining page describes a verification-and-invitation process, rather than open registration alone. It also states a minimum age of 16. Applicants should follow the live page’s instructions, since entry requirements may change.

What the available evidence does—and does not—show
The official guidance supports comparing these communities by premise, writing expectations, and joining steps. It does not establish that either is objectively better, nor does it support a broad list of the largest or most active collaborative horror sites. For SCP history, its FAQ says the original SCP was written in 2007, the first wiki incarnation appeared in early 2008, and the site moved to Wikidot in mid-2008; those dates are historical context, not measures of current activity.
