Choose pCloud for a cloud-accessible photo library; choose Backblaze Computer Backup for automatic off-site backup of a computer and directly connected external drives. They solve different problems: pCloud offers storage, syncing, browsing and sharing, while Backblaze focuses on backing up files for recovery. Photographers can also use both alongside a local copy.

pCloud and Backblaze serve different photo workflows

pCloud is a cloud storage service designed for accessing and managing files. Its product materials describe photo and video access, RAW previews, sharing, syncing, and backup of computer folders and mobile photos. Backblaze Computer Backup is an automatic backup service for a computer and directly attached external drives—not a browsable cloud drive equivalent to pCloud.

The distinction matters: a photo library you want to browse and share from the cloud is a different need from an off-site copy you can restore after a computer or drive failure.

Plans for a known archive size

The official annual plan page listed these prices on October 5, 2026: 500 GB for $49.99 per year, 2 TB for $99.99 per year, and 10 TB for $299.99 per year. The page also describes pCloud Photos timeline and map views, an opt-in AI organization feature, syncing across devices, mobile gallery backup, sharing, and file-version recovery for up to 30 days. Prices and inclusions can change, and regional pricing may differ; check the current plan page before subscribing. Check pCloud’s current annual plans.

Capacity is the practical constraint: compare the plan with the size of the archive you intend to store and its expected growth. A capacity-based plan makes that estimate central to the decision.

Importing photos from other services

pCloud’s Help Center describes importing files from services including Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Photos. It also says some integrations, including Instagram and ongoing Google Photos backups, are no longer available because of API changes. Do not assume every social or photo service can be continuously mirrored. Read pCloud’s third-party backup guidance.

External photo drives must be included in the backup workflow

Backblaze says Computer Backup can cover USB, FireWire and Thunderbolt external drives connected to the computer, including multiple drives attached to one computer. The drive must remain selected and connected as required by the backup workflow. If files are moved or renamed, Backblaze’s support article says its deduplication can recognize files already uploaded; it also advises checking drive selection in the application settings. External-drive coverage; Backblaze guidance on moving or renaming files.

NAS is a different case

Backblaze Computer Backup does not cover NAS. Backblaze points NAS users to its separate B2 product, so check that product’s requirements rather than assuming a network-attached photo archive is included in Computer Backup. Backblaze external-drive and NAS information.

Compare recovery history before choosing

Recovery history affects whether you can retrieve an earlier version or a file that was deleted or changed some time ago. pCloud’s plan page describes recovering data from up to 30 days ago. Backblaze lists 30 days of history as included, a one-year history option that users can enable at no cost, and Forever history for an additional $0.006 per GB per month for files older than one year. Check the current terms and billing details before relying on an extension. pCloud recovery information; Backblaze version-history options.

Which service should you choose?

Choose pCloud for a browsable, shareable cloud library

  • You want to access and browse photos from the cloud, including RAW previews.
  • You want file and folder sharing, syncing, or mobile gallery backup.
  • You know roughly how much capacity your archive needs and prefer a capacity-based plan.

Choose Backblaze Computer Backup for automatic off-site protection

  • Your priority is backing up a computer and directly connected external photo drives.
  • You prefer automatic backup with unlimited storage listed for the computer-backup product over a general-purpose photo-library interface.
  • You have checked the drive-selection, connection and version-history requirements against your workflow.

Use both when you need separate access and recovery paths

pCloud can serve as a cloud-accessible library while Backblaze backs up the computer and attached drives. A local copy adds another recovery option. Backblaze notes that a computer and an external drive kept in the same place share risks such as fire, flood and theft, so a local drive alone is not an off-site backup. A practical photo-backup checklist

  1. Identify where the originals live. Record whether the archive is on the computer, directly attached drives, a NAS, or a combination.
  2. Match the service to the workflow. Use pCloud when cloud browsing, access and sharing are central; use Backblaze Computer Backup for automatic backup of a computer and directly attached drives.
  3. Check capacity and growth. For pCloud, compare the library and expected additions with the plan capacity and current regional price.
  4. Check recovery history. Decide how far back you may need to recover files, then confirm the current version-history terms.
  5. Keep a local copy where practical. Choose an external drive sized for the archive; no particular model or capacity is established here. Keep in mind that a drive stored beside the computer shares physical-location risks.
  6. Verify coverage after setup. For Backblaze, check that each intended external drive is selected and connected as required. For pCloud, verify that the folders or mobile gallery you want backed up are included.
