Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a podcast archive you want to broadcast continuously from uploaded episodes, StreamNeo is the cloud-first option to consider first: it loops uploaded videos to YouTube without requiring your computer or home connection to stay on, and its first day is free with no card. Restream and StreamYard document ways to schedule prerecorded video as a YouTube broadcast; they are useful alternatives when you want scheduled episodes rather than a continuous loop. If the goal is a shared watch of one video at a set time, a YouTube Premiere may fit better than a livestream.
Choose the format before choosing a platform
“Streaming a podcast archive live” can mean two different things. You might want a true broadcast that runs continuously or at scheduled times, using prerecorded episodes as its feed. Or you might want viewers to gather at a set time to watch one video together. The first calls for a livestream workflow; the second may be better served by a YouTube Premiere, which YouTube describes as a communal viewing experience with Live Chat.

- Continuous or scheduled broadcast: choose a service that can play prerecorded video to a YouTube livestream, and decide whether playback should loop or stop after an episode.
- One-time communal viewing: consider a Premiere rather than creating a continuing broadcast.
- Encoder-based production: use an encoder if you need to operate a live production workflow yourself. YouTube supports encoder streaming, but that is distinct from a cloud service playing uploaded recordings for you.
For any true livestream, confirm the episode length, file format, resolution, event-page workflow, archive needs, and current plan limits before committing to a service.

| StreamNeo | Cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; the service loops the upload from the cloud. | Plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube only. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots. One flat price per slot applies to any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card; see StreamNeo pricing for the applicable displayed price. |
| Restream | Its documentation describes connecting a YouTube channel, scheduling recorded videos to go live, and connecting a broadcast to an existing scheduled YouTube event. | YouTube live streaming must be enabled, and Restream says authorization must be done by the channel owner. Restream documents YouTube archive behavior as under 12 hours; use YouTube’s own archive guidance for the platform rule. Current plan limits and prices are not stated here. |
| StreamYard | Its documentation describes scheduling an uploaded or existing recording as a prerecorded broadcast, with YouTube as a supported destination. | The vendor help page lists MP4/H.264, 10 Mbps upload bitrate, up to 1080p on paid plans, and duration limits that vary by plan. Check the current plan page for the exact limits that apply to your account. |
How to decide between the broadcast options
- Decide whether you need a livestream. Choose a broadcast workflow for a stream that should appear as live; choose a Premiere when the main purpose is a scheduled communal viewing of a particular video.
- Match the workflow to your publishing schedule. A continuously looping archive is different from scheduling individual episodes. Confirm whether the platform supports the exact sequence and event-page setup you want.
- Check each episode against upload and plan limits. Compare duration, file size, format, and resolution with the provider’s current requirements. StreamYard’s documented prerecorded upload requirements include MP4/H.264 and a 10 Mbps upload bitrate; its listed maximum resolution is up to 1080p on paid plans. Restream’s current plan limits are not established here.
- Decide whether to create or reuse a YouTube event. Restream documents connecting to an existing scheduled YouTube event. Confirm the event setup in the service you choose rather than assuming all prerecorded workflows handle it the same way.
- Plan for replay and viewer controls. Decide whether you need an archived replay, DVR pause-and-rewind, or both. YouTube says DVR can be limited or unavailable for very long streams beyond 12 hours.
- Compare current costs and entitlements. Prices, plan limits, and commercial terms can change. Check the provider’s current plan information against the number and length of broadcasts you expect to run.
Prepare the YouTube channel and event
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days to stream. YouTube describes mobile, webcam, and encoder routes; for encoder streaming, it provides a server URL and stream key. A cloud prerecorded-video service uses the channel’s YouTube authorization or stream key according to its setup flow.
- Check channel eligibility. Confirm verification and that no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days prevents streaming.
- Enable live streaming and authorize the channel. Follow the chosen service’s connection flow. Restream says channel authorization must be performed by the channel owner.
- Create or select the YouTube event. If you want to reuse a scheduled event, confirm that your platform’s workflow supports connecting to it.
- Upload and schedule the recordings. Check every file against the service’s format, bitrate, resolution, size, and duration requirements. For a podcast archive, test the episode order and transitions before announcing the schedule.
- Share the stream link ahead of time. YouTube recommends sharing it at least 48 hours before going live. This is a platform recommendation, not a guarantee of audience reach.
Protect the archive: duration, copyright, and monetization
Keep an eye on the 12-hour archive threshold
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For an archive that matters, keep each broadcast below that threshold and retain a local copy of the source recordings. Restream also documents an under-12-hour archive condition, but YouTube’s own guidance is the relevant source for YouTube’s platform behavior. Very long streams may also have limited or unavailable DVR controls.

Clear every right before rebroadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. It may replace the feed with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the broadcast, and may issue a strike. Having a license does not necessarily prevent an interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights holder through Content ID. YouTube’s live terms make the content provider responsible for having the necessary rights, including relevant music rights.

- Review intro and outro music, beds, and other music in each episode.
- Check clips, guest contributions, archival material, and third-party video or audio.
- Keep documentation of permissions, and ask a rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where appropriate.
- If the broadcast stops, YouTube advises: “If your live stream stops, check your YouTube Studio dashboard for strikes.”
Do not treat watch hours as a monetization guarantee
A YouTube Official Blog post dated August 12, 2026 says qualified watch hours may come from public long-form videos, including podcasts, and archived livestreams; unarchived livestreams do not count. That statement concerns watch-hour qualification only. It does not promise acceptance into monetization or earnings, and YouTube’s reused-content policy is separate from copyright compliance. Rebroadcasting an archive by itself does not guarantee monetization.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The service cannot connect to the YouTube channel. | Channel live-stream eligibility, channel-owner authorization, or an incomplete connection flow. | Confirm the channel is verified, check for a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and reconnect using the channel owner’s account where required. |
| An upload is rejected or will not schedule. | File format, bitrate, resolution, duration, or plan-specific limit. | Compare the file with the service’s current upload requirements. For StreamYard’s documented prerecorded workflow, the help page lists MP4/H.264, 10 Mbps upload bitrate, and up to 1080p on paid plans; check the current plan for duration limits. |
| The broadcast does not appear on the expected YouTube event. | The selected event or scheduled-event connection may not match the intended broadcast. | Check the event in YouTube and the service’s scheduling setup. Restream documents connecting to an existing scheduled YouTube event, but do not assume that capability for another workflow. |
| The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder. | A third-party Content ID match or rights issue may have been detected. | Review the affected material and permissions, then check YouTube Studio for strikes. A license may not prevent interruption without Content ID allowlisting. |
| The full broadcast is missing from the archive. | The stream may have exceeded 12 hours. | Keep future streams below 12 hours and retain source recordings locally; streams beyond 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. |
