Best all-round pick: Mario Golf: Super Rush
Mario Golf: Super Rush is the most flexible choice if you want one Switch game that covers both conventional rounds and livelier group play. Nintendo lists Standard Golf, Speed Golf, Battle Golf and Golf Adventure. Choose Standard Golf when you want to focus on shots and scoring; the other modes lean into racing, competition and movement around the course.

Nintendo lists button and motion controls, but motion control is unavailable in Golf Adventure. Its stated player support is 1–4 on one system, 2–4 over local wireless and 2–4 online. Those different options matter: “multiplayer” does not mean every mode or setup uses the same connection method.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBest old-school Nintendo choice: NES Open Tournament Golf
If “classic” means an actual older Nintendo golf game, NES Open Tournament Golf is the direct match. Nintendo Life identifies it in the Nintendo Switch Online NES catalog and characterizes its golf systems as an early, restrained take on the sport. It is a retro release, not a modern game with contemporary course presentation or features.

Access depends on the current catalog and local Nintendo Switch Online terms, so confirm both for your region before subscribing or planning a play session. The original NES release dates also differed by territory: Nintendo Life lists September 29, 1991 for North America and June 18, 1992 for the UK and Europe.
Best for a golf story: Golf Story
Golf Story is for players who want golf to be part of a larger adventure. Nintendo Life describes an RPG modeled on older Mario Golf handheld games, with golf challenges alongside a broad story and unusual activities. That variety makes it a better fit for progression and exploration than for someone seeking a strict golf simulation.

The Nintendo Life review also reports occasional frame dips or stutters and sound that may become repetitive. Treat those as the reviewer’s observations rather than universal performance findings.
