Cheap WordPress hosting can start at a low advertised monthly equivalent, but the amount due upfront, prepaid term and renewal price determine what it really costs. Hostinger’s Premium plan is one concrete budget example: $2.99 per month when you prepay $143.52 for 48 months, then $10.99 per month at renewal. It may suit a small site that can commit for four years; it is not automatically the best choice for every budget or workload.
How much does cheap WordPress hosting cost?
There is no single price that defines “cheap.” Compare the amount charged for the first term with the recurring renewal rate, and note how long you must prepay to receive the advertised monthly equivalent. A low figure tied to a multi-year purchase is not comparable to a monthly plan that can be canceled sooner.
Hostinger’s official WordPress hosting page lists Premium at $2.99 per month on a 48-month term, billed as $143.52 upfront. The listed renewal rate is $10.99 per month. These are Hostinger’s plan terms, not a market-wide average; check the current checkout price, term and renewal date before buying.
What does Hostinger Premium include?
The cited Premium plan listing includes three websites, 20 GB of SSD storage, weekly backups and a domain free for one year. These limits and benefits apply to the specified plan and may have eligibility conditions; review the current plan details for the exact terms.

That package can be a reasonable starting point for a few modest sites if the four-year commitment and eventual renewal rate fit your budget. Before choosing it—or another low-cost plan—check whether the limits match your actual site count, storage needs and backup expectations.
How to compare inexpensive WordPress hosts
Use plan pages and checkout screens to compare the same kinds of costs and capabilities. Bluehost’s beginner guide is a vendor-published comparison resource, while TechRadar’s hosting guide offers editorial coverage; neither should be mistaken for a standardized, current head-to-head dataset. Features and rates vary by plan and provider.

- First-term bill and commitment: Record the amount due now, billing period and any minimum prepaid term—not just the monthly equivalent.
- Renewal: Find the rate that applies after the introductory term and when the renewal is charged.
- Site and resource limits: Check allowed websites, storage and any published resource restrictions.
- Backups: Confirm backup frequency, retention, whether restoration is included and any fees or limits.
- Security and WordPress tools: Verify HTTPS/SSL, CDN availability, staging and how WordPress updates are handled.
- Support: Check support hours and available contact methods rather than assuming every plan has the same coverage.
- Migration and refunds: Read whether migration assistance is included and the conditions and deadline for refund eligibility.
- Room to grow: Look at the next plan tier and the likely cost of upgrading if traffic, storage or site count increases.
Recheck these details at purchase: prices, renewal terms, limits, refund eligibility and feature availability can change. Do not compare a 48-month prepayment directly with a one-month price without accounting for the different commitment.
Does cheap hosting meet WordPress’s requirements?
WordPress.org recommends PHP 8.3 or greater, MariaDB 10.11 or greater or MySQL 8.0 or greater, and HTTPS. It recommends Apache or Nginx, while noting that another server supporting PHP and MySQL may work. Its concise summary is, “That’s really it.” See the [WordPress.org requirements](https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/) page and ask a host to confirm its current server software if the plan details do not make this clear.

Meeting those minimum technical requirements does not establish that a host will be fast or suitable for every site. For example, TechRadar’s 2026 editorial review reports good Hostinger performance for entry- to mid-level sites in its testing, alongside weaker database metrics. That is an attributed editorial assessment, not a result from a standardized comparison across all budget plans or proof of a universal winner.
Should you choose a host from WordPress.org’s directory?
WordPress.org explains that its hosting listings are not a neutral comparative award. It says, “Listing is completely arbitrary,” and describes criteria that include contributions to WordPress.org, customer base, ease of installation and upgrades, GPL compliance, presentation and current system software. A directory listing can be a place to start, but it does not replace comparing a specific plan’s total cost, limits and support terms.

Which cheap host is right for your site?
Choose based on the shape of your project, not the lowest headline number. A new, low-traffic blog may prioritize an affordable first term and simple setup; a freelancer managing several client sites may care more about site limits, backups and staging; a growing business should weigh the renewal bill, support and upgrade path. If a plan requires years of prepayment, make sure you are comfortable with that commitment even if you later move the site.
On the evidence available here, Hostinger Premium is a concrete budget option with published plan details, not a defensible universal winner. Compare its four-year upfront payment and renewal against current offers from other providers using the same checklist, then choose the plan whose full-term cost and capabilities fit your needs.
