The Fujifilm GFX100S II is the strongest landscape-first choice among the 2026 guide picks reviewed here, thanks to its 102MP medium-format sensor and in-body stabilization. For a high-resolution full-frame camera that can handle broader work, consider the Sony a7R VI. The right choice depends on more than megapixels: format, lenses, kit weight, total system cost and how often you photograph moving subjects all matter.
This is a practical shortlist, not a single publisher’s ranking or a controlled head-to-head test. It brings together recommendations from 2026 guides by DPReview, Digital Camera World and RTINGS. The seven cameras span medium format, full frame and APS-C, as well as mirrorless and DSLR systems. The 7 best cameras for landscape photography
1. Fujifilm GFX100S II: best for landscape-first detail
DPReview names the GFX100S II its best camera for landscapes. Its 102MP BSI medium-format sensor provides abundant resolution for detailed prints and cropping, and the camera has in-body stabilization. Digital Camera World also points to its pixel-shift mode, which combines captures to create a higher-resolution composite; that workflow is best suited to a static scene, not moving foliage, water or clouds. Fujifilm’s specifications list the sensor and camera details.
The trade-off is the cost and bulk of a medium-format body and its G-mount lens system. For static scenery, autofocus speed is generally less important than resolution, stabilization and the lenses you can take into the field. Choose this system when those image-making benefits justify its size and total cost.
#1 Best Overall
- 24.1 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor with is 100–6400 (H: 12800)
- Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC technology
- 9-Point AF system and AI Servo AF
- Optical Viewfinder with approx 95% viewing coverage
- Use the EOS Utility Webcam Beta Software (Mac and Windows) to turn your compatible Canon camera into a high-quality webcam. Compatible Lenses- Canon EF Lenses (including EF-S lenses, excluding EF-M lenses)
2. Sony a7R VI: best high-resolution full-frame hybrid
DPReview recommends the a7R VI for landscapes and broader use. It has a 66.8MP stabilized stacked sensor, combining high native resolution with a faster-shooting, more versatile approach than a landscape-only camera. That makes it a plausible fit if you also photograph subjects where autofocus and shooting speed matter. Its purchase cost is a significant consideration.
Digital Camera World describes an optional 270MP pixel-shift workflow that combines multiple exposures in Sony software. That figure is not the resolution of a normal single frame: movement between captures can interfere with the composite, so treat it as a specialized option for static scenes rather than a substitute for the camera’s native resolution. DPReview’s 2026 guide covers its landscape and hybrid positioning.
3. Canon EOS R5 Mark II: best for mixed stills and video
DPReview describes the EOS R5 Mark II as a broad hybrid camera, with a 45MP stacked sensor, strong autofocus and shooting speeds up to 30 frames per second. Those capabilities can be useful if landscape photography is one part of a stills-and-video workload or you also shoot wildlife and action.
If most of your subjects are static landscapes, its speed-oriented features may be more than you need. Compare the Canon RF lenses you would actually use—and their total cost—rather than choosing on body specifications alone. DPReview also advises weighing lens availability and prices when choosing a camera system.

4. Nikon Z7 II: value-oriented full-frame mirrorless
DPReview identifies the Z7 II as its bargain option; it has a 45.7MP sensor. Digital Camera World notes that it is an older-generation model, but its higher resolution can appeal to landscape photographers comparing it with newer Nikon bodies built around 24MP sensors. The value depends on the body price available to you and the cost and availability of compatible Z lenses.
Check current local pricing rather than assuming an older camera is automatically the less expensive system. A body deal may not offset the cost of the lenses you need.
5. Fujifilm X-T5: compact APS-C alternative
DPReview lists the X-T5 as a compact option. Its APS-C system may suit photographers who prioritize a more portable kit over a larger sensor format. Assess the lenses available for your landscapes and the weight of the complete setup, not just the camera body.

The reviewed guide material does not establish detailed X-T5 specifications here, so this recommendation is about its compact-system role rather than a claim about particular weather protection or image-quality results. 6. Nikon D850: best DSLR option in this shortlist
RTINGS calls the D850 its best tested DSLR for landscapes. It has a 45MP full-frame sensor, and RTINGS highlights dynamic range, cropping flexibility, long battery life, an optical viewfinder and access to Nikon’s F-mount lens catalog. Digital Camera World also lists it as a landscape DSLR, citing a 45.7MP sensor.
Its main practical drawback is size and weight. Consider it if you want a DSLR and value its viewfinder or F-mount lens options, but account for the weight of the body and lenses you will carry.
7. Nikon Z 5: value-oriented full-frame entry point
RTINGS describes the Z 5 as an older, strong-value entry-level full-frame camera for landscape-focused work. Its 24.3MP sensor, dynamic range, weather sealing and high-resolution viewfinder are among the features the guide highlights. It may be a sensible starting point if you prefer full frame without prioritizing the highest pixel count in this list.
RTINGS considers it less suitable for fast subjects and video than newer options, and notes that Nikon Z lenses can be costly. If you also want to photograph wildlife or other action, compare those limitations with the more versatile options above.

How to compare cameras for landscape photography
Resolution and sensor format
More pixels can preserve fine detail and provide room to crop, but a high pixel count is only one part of the decision. A medium-format system can bring greater body and lens cost and bulk; full-frame and APS-C options offer different compromises in resolution, portability and system choice. Pixel-shift modes are a separate, multi-capture technique, not a camera’s ordinary single-frame resolution.
Lens system and total cost
Price the lenses you expect to use alongside the camera body. Wide-angle options, telephoto reach, filters or a tripod may shape a landscape kit as much as the body choice. DPReview specifically recommends comparing lens selection and prices for camera systems, including Nikon Z and Canon RF. A low body price alone does not establish the best value.
Weight, stabilization and conditions
Think about how far you carry your kit and whether you often work handheld. In-body stabilization is a stated feature of the GFX100S II and a useful consideration in the a7R VI recommendation. Weather sealing is specifically noted for the Nikon Z 5 in RTINGS’ guide; do not assume other models have equivalent protection without checking their specifications and lens pairings.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Static scenery or a broader workload
For still landscapes, resolution, lens choice, portability and careful technique can outweigh autofocus or burst speed. Those speed features matter more if you photograph wildlife, action or other moving subjects alongside scenery. Choose a hybrid camera when those extra capabilities answer a real need, not simply because the specification is impressive.
