Amazon Echo Frames are the clearest documented camera-free choice for hands-free calls and open-ear audio, but the official materials reviewed do not establish that they provide turn-by-turn navigation. No currently shipping model in the available evidence is confirmed to deliver all three features while also having no camera. Treat camera status and navigation support as exact-model questions, not assumptions based on a product line or voice assistant.
What counts as camera-free smart glasses?
Check the specifications for the exact generation and SKU. A model described as camera-free should have no built-in photo or video camera; a displayless design is not necessarily camera-free. For example, Amazon’s 2019 announcement said, “Echo Frames have no camera or display and are made from durable and lightweight materials for all-day wear.” That statement describes the announced generation, so confirm the current model’s specifications before buying: Amazon’s Echo Frames announcement.

It is also useful to distinguish navigation through a connected phone from navigation supported by the glasses themselves. Calls, audio playback, and access to a voice assistant do not by themselves establish that glasses can provide turn-by-turn directions.
Best documented camera-free option for calls and audio: Amazon Echo Frames
Amazon’s Echo Frames materials make them the closest evidenced match for camera-free calls and open-ear listening. The feature guide describes Alexa calling, call controls, media playback, microphone muting, and switching audio between a phone and another paired device: Amazon Echo Frames feature guide.

There are important limits to what those materials establish: they do not document built-in turn-by-turn navigation. Choose Echo Frames for the calls-and-audio use case only if the exact model meets your needs; do not assume it supplies glasses-based route guidance.
Audio and battery claims
Amazon’s 2019 announcement described four beamforming micro speakers in that generation. Its 2023 feature guide claims up to six hours of continuous media playback and three times more bass than the previous generation. These are manufacturer statements, not independent measurements, and the speaker count should not be generalized to every generation.

Prescription lenses and fit
Amazon says prescription lenses can be added through an eyewear professional and recommends adjusting the fit. Ask an optician to confirm compatibility for your prescription and face shape before purchasing. Any possible vision-plan reimbursement depends on the buyer’s plan; it is not a universal benefit.

How to choose without confusing phone navigation with glasses navigation
- Confirm the camera hardware. Read the specifications for the exact generation and SKU, rather than relying on a product-family name or an older announcement.
- Verify how calls work. Check microphone and call controls, phone compatibility, and whether calls can be handled hands-free in the way you intend.
- Check audio behavior and comfort. Open-ear speakers leave your ears uncovered, but fit, sound leakage, and comfort are model- and wearer-dependent. Seek a return option if you cannot try them on first.
- Ask what “navigation” means. Confirm whether directions are delivered by the glasses or only by a connected phone, and whether turn-by-turn guidance is available in your region and with your phone platform.
- Confirm prescription and availability details. Ask an optician about lens compatibility and fit, then check current stock and model-specific battery specifications with the manufacturer or retailer.
Are any camera-free smart glasses confirmed to do all three?
Not by the official materials reviewed here. Echo Frames are the clearest documented camera-free candidate for calls and audio, but their reviewed materials do not establish turn-by-turn navigation. Meta’s announced navigation feature is not a fit for a camera-free shortlist because Meta Glasses include photo and video capture. Verify any new model against its current, exact-model specifications before treating it as a complete match.
