For a self-managed 24/7 rain ambience stream, choose a VPS by its monthly outbound-transfer allowance first—not its lowest advertised price. A continuous 4.5 Mbps stream is estimated to use about 1.4 TB of transfer per month, so a plan with roughly 2 TB included gives more room than an entry tier with 500 GiB. Lightsail and DigitalOcean are candidates to compare, but the available figures do not establish which is cheapest in India today. If you would rather avoid running a server, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative: upload a finished video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live.
How much VPS bandwidth does a 24/7 rain stream need?
Estimate monthly transfer from the bitrate you actually plan to send. StreamNeo’s 2026 cost comparison estimates that a continuous 4.5 Mbps stream uses about 1.4 TB of outbound transfer in a month. This is a planning figure, not a guarantee for every stream: bitrate variation, restarts, and the provider’s unit definitions can affect the amount billed. Leave headroom rather than sizing exactly to the estimate. See StreamNeo’s 24/7 streaming service and its cloud-versus-PC cost calculator for the cited comparison context.
| Plan or allowance cited in the 2026 comparison | Monthly transfer | How it compares with the 4.5 Mbps example |
|---|---|---|
| DigitalOcean entry tier | 500 GiB | Below the estimated 1.4 TB monthly use |
| DigitalOcean higher tier | 2,000 GiB | Above the example, with some headroom |
| Amazon Lightsail Linux bundle | 2 TB | Above the example, with some headroom |
These are reference allowances reported in July 2026, not verified current India checkout prices or confirmation that each exact plan is offered in each region. Check the provider’s current plan page and terms before ordering.
Which budget VPS options should you compare in India?
Start with India-region plans that include around 2 TB of outbound transfer, then compare the full billed amount and the exact plan’s terms. The available comparison identifies Lightsail Mumbai and DigitalOcean Bangalore as India-region options; it does not prove either is currently the cheapest for this workload.

| Option | What the available evidence says | Verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Lightsail Linux VPS | The 2026 comparison lists a cited Linux bundle with 2 TB transfer; a secondary India comparison lists Mumbai. | Current Mumbai availability, included transfer, India total price, public IPv4 charge, and tax. |
| DigitalOcean Droplet | Its official documentation describes included transfer and charges US$0.01 per GiB for excess outbound Droplet transfer. StreamNeo’s 2026 comparison reports a cited 2,000 GiB tier. Official region documentation lists blr1 for some sizes. |
Allowance for the exact Droplet size and region, current price, and final billed amount. Allowance is pooled at team level, according to DigitalOcean’s documentation. |
DigitalOcean’s published overage rate means a low headline price can be misleading if your stream exceeds its allowance. Confirm whether the stated allowance applies to your selected Droplet and how your account’s pooled transfer is counted. The cited official billing details were last verified in 2026: DigitalOcean bandwidth billing documentation. Region availability can vary by size; consult DigitalOcean’s region API documentation.
Can a small VPS loop a rain video?
It may be adequate in principle if the video is already encoded in a format YouTube accepts and the VPS only copies the audio and video streams. That avoids encoding every frame on the server, but it is not proof that a particular low-cost instance will perform reliably. No instance-specific benchmark or uptime test is established here.

When stream copy is suitable
If the file already has suitable H.264 video and AAC audio, FFmpeg can loop it and pass the streams through without re-encoding. The VPS still has to read the file and send a continuous network stream; check transfer limits and test your chosen instance with the actual file and bitrate.
When you need more compute
If you need to change resolution, frame rate, codec, or bitrate on the server, FFmpeg must re-encode. That raises CPU demand, so do not assume the smallest instance will work. Decide the required output settings before choosing a plan and test the encode under sustained load.

How to choose the total-cost winner
- Set the real output bitrate. Use the bitrate you intend to stream, estimate a full month of transfer, and add headroom for variation and restarts.
- Check the exact region and plan. Confirm the instance is offered in Mumbai or Bangalore as applicable and verify its included transfer for that size.
- Calculate the billed total. Include overage, public IPv4, tax, currency conversion, and any other charges shown at checkout; compare like-for-like monthly costs.
- Match compute to the workflow. Stream copy needs less compute than server-side re-encoding, but neither makes an untested plan a proven choice.
- Test the actual loop. Run the intended video and stream settings long enough to observe CPU use, network stability, and whether the process recovers as you expect.
A VPS’s region can matter for latency and India-based billing or data requirements, but the origin location alone does not determine how viewers around the world experience delivery. The current evidence does not settle which provider has the lowest complete India price for this exact workload.
VPS versus a managed 24/7 streaming service
A VPS gives you control over the server and the streaming setup, but you are responsible for configuration, monitoring, transfer limits, and recovery. A managed service can avoid VPS administration. For this topic, StreamNeo is the first cloud alternative to consider: it keeps an uploaded video or playlist running on YouTube from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps as uploaded for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.

Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your finished rain recording to StreamNeo.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The product is for YouTube and plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. The same features apply across plans; the billing length changes.
There are daily, weekly, monthly, six-month, and yearly billing options, and you can cancel at any time. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. The first day is free with no card, once per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. For five or more slots, contact support. See StreamNeo pricing for current plan details, or start your free first day.

Check YouTube rights before leaving a rain loop live
Use recordings and audio that you own or are licensed to stream on YouTube. A rain ambience video may still contain copyrighted music, sound effects, or other material; a continuous stream does not make unlicensed content safe to use. Check the rights for every element in the loop before going live. YouTube can interrupt a stream if it drops, so recovery handling matters whether you operate a VPS yourself or use a managed service. StreamNeo provides a copyright safety checklist.
