For budget aerial photography, the DJI Mini 4K is the strongest value pick in the cited buying guide. If you want a non-DJI option with subject tracking, consider the Potensic Atom 2; if flying itself matters more than camera footage, the BetaFPV Cetus X is a different kind of beginner kit. The key distinction is stabilization: a 4K label alone does not tell you how smooth your footage will look.

Why camera stabilization matters more than the resolution label
A drone can record 4K video and still produce visibly shaky footage. The Mini 4K and Atom 2 are described with 3-axis mechanical gimbals, which steady the camera as the aircraft moves. The Atom SE instead relies on EIS, which stabilizes footage electronically. That distinction is central if you want smooth-looking clips, particularly when the drone is changing direction or dealing with light movement.

For stills, compare both resolution and format. TechRadar lists the Atom 2 with 12MP or 48MP still options, but says the 48MP option was JPEG-only at launch. A headline megapixel figure does not by itself establish image quality or current feature availability.

What to check before choosing
Obstacle sensing and tracking
Neither the Mini 4K nor the Atom 2 has collision avoidance, according to TechRadar. The Atom 2 does offer subject tracking in that guide, but tracking is not a substitute for obstacle sensing or attentive piloting. Do not choose either expecting the aircraft to detect and avoid objects for you.

Flight time, wind and the complete kit
Published flight-time figures are specifications, not a promise of how long a particular flight will last. TechRadar lists up to 32 minutes for the Atom 2, while Digital Camera World lists 30 minutes for the Mini 4K; actual time and regional configurations can vary. Wind handling also matters: TechRadar says the Mini 4K struggles in properly windy conditions.
Compare the full package, not just the aircraft price. Check which controller, batteries and charging equipment are included, and what compatible extras would cost. Retail bundles, availability and prices vary, and the cited guides do not establish a stable current US price.

Does a drone under 250 g avoid flight rules?
No. A listed weight of 249 g is not a blanket exemption from drone rules, airspace limits or safe-flying obligations. Requirements depend on where and how you fly. In the United States, check the FAA’s current recreational-flyer guidance before takeoff: FAA recreational flyers. For other locations, consult the relevant national aviation authority and check local airspace restrictions.
