The best Bluehost alternative depends on what you value after the introductory term: SiteGround is the strongest shared-hosting choice for hands-on WordPress support; DreamHost offers a lower stated renewal than many competitors; InterServer is worth investigating if its single-price renewal policy is confirmed; WP Engine, DreamPress and Rocket.net are better fits when managed WordPress operations matter more than the lowest bill; and Cloudways suits people who want metered cloud infrastructure instead of a fixed shared plan.
Bluehost remains inexpensive at signup but its official 36-month WordPress pricing shows a large step-up later: Starter is listed at $3.99 per month initially and $9.99 per month at renewal, while Business is $6.99 initially and $13.99 at renewal (Bluehost official WordPress page, 2026, page undated). Treat every competing introductory number the same way. Compare the renewal rate, the term that unlocks it, included extras and the amount of WordPress management you actually receive.

Why people are looking for Bluehost alternatives in 2026
The usual trigger is not an inability to run WordPress. It is the gap between a promotional checkout price and the recurring charge after the first term. Bluehost’s own page advertises a free domain, SSL, an AI site builder and 24/7 WordPress support with its WordPress plans, so leaving is a trade-off rather than a simple hunt for a lower headline number.
Price lists on affiliate-led hosting sites also disagree. A number may describe a 12-month purchase, a 36-month purchase, a temporary promotion or a renewal rate, and those conditions are often presented differently from one review to another. The figures below are therefore decision aids, not permanent quotes. Open the provider’s checkout page and confirm the term, tax, domain treatment and renewal amount before paying.

Bluehost pricing baseline: the number to beat
| Plan shown on Bluehost’s WordPress page | Introductory price | Renewal price | Term context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $3.99/month | $9.99/month | 36-month pricing shown on the official page |
| Business | $6.99/month | $13.99/month | 36-month pricing shown on the official page |
Those are the official-page figures available for this comparison. Other reviews quote higher renewal amounts, so use the figure displayed in your own cart as authoritative for your region and purchase date. A “cheaper than Bluehost” claim is meaningful only when the competing plan’s renewal price is compared over a similar term and with equivalent domain, backup, migration and support costs.
Best Bluehost alternatives: quick comparison
| Provider or service | Type | Reported introductory price | Reported renewal price | What stands out | Evidence caution |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SiteGround | Shared hosting with managed WordPress features | StartUp $2.99/month; GrowBig $4.99/month | StartUp $17.99/month; GrowBig $29.99/month | Strongest reputation in the supplied comparisons for managed WordPress support | 12-month figures appeared as unattributed roundup text; verify directly |
| DreamHost | Shared hosting | $2.89/month for the first year | $10.99/month | NVMe storage and a stated “100% uptime guarantee” in a roundup | Both the price and guarantee need confirmation in current terms |
| InterServer | Shared hosting | $2.50/month entry price | Reported not to rise | Potentially simple long-term billing | No-rise claim comes from one source |
| A2 Hosting | Shared hosting | $2.99/month | $11.99/month | Conventional shared-hosting alternative | Single-source figures; verify at checkout |
| WP Engine | Managed WordPress | Not stated in the comparison | $25/month reported | Managed operations; 99.95% uptime figure reported | Unverified comparison data |
| DreamPress | Managed WordPress | $14.99/month | $19.99/month | Staging and 24/7 WordPress support reported | Unverified comparison data |
| Rocket.net | Managed WordPress | Starting at $30/month | Not stated | Premium managed positioning | Single reviewer’s starting price |
| Cloudways | Cloud hosting | No single price | Metered by provider and server size | Choose among DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS and Google Cloud | Third-party prices conflict; official pricing was not available here |
Shared-hosting alternatives
SiteGround: best when WordPress help matters
SiteGround is the clearest fit for a site owner who wants shared hosting with a more managed WordPress experience. Roundups list StartUp at $2.99 per month and GrowBig at $4.99 per month on 12-month terms, renewing at $17.99 and $29.99 respectively. Because the renewal jump is substantial, model the second and subsequent years before treating either plan as a bargain.
Recommended Free Tools
The comparison material consistently places SiteGround strongest on managed WordPress support. That makes it attractive for owners who prefer guided updates, troubleshooting and a support team familiar with WordPress rather than a bare control panel. The supplied pricing text does not establish a definitive storage limit, visitor allowance or backup policy for each tier, so check those items in the live plan details.
DreamHost: lower reported renewal with useful storage
DreamHost is reported at $2.89 per month for the first year and $10.99 per month afterward. The same roundup mentions NVMe storage and a “100% uptime guarantee.” Neither statement was verified against current DreamHost terms, so read the guarantee’s exclusions and remedy language instead of interpreting it as a promise that a site can never be unavailable.
This option makes sense for a conventional blog or small business site that wants a familiar shared plan and does not need a premium managed-WordPress service. Confirm whether a free domain applies only during the initial registration period and what the renewal fee will be for that domain.

InterServer: investigate the no-rise claim carefully
InterServer appears in 2026 alternative roundups with a $2.50-per-month entry price. One blog says the renewal does not increase. That is a single-source claim, not an established industry-wide policy, so capture the checkout price and the provider’s renewal language before relying on it for a multi-year budget.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA stable renewal would be valuable for a site expected to run for several years, but price stability does not answer questions about backups, migration assistance, support response or resource limits. Compare those operational details with the plan you are leaving.
A2 Hosting: a conventional low-entry option
A2 Hosting is reported at $2.99 per month initially and $11.99 per month on renewal. The figures are unverified single-source numbers. Treat the plan as a candidate for ordinary shared WordPress hosting, then confirm the exact renewal term, storage allocation, backup schedule and migration terms in the order summary.
Managed WordPress alternatives
Managed WordPress hosting changes the comparison. You are paying for a narrower WordPress-focused service, not simply disk space and a control panel. Depending on the provider and tier, management can include WordPress-specific support, automatic updates, staging environments, caching or security workflows. The available pricing notes establish staging and 24/7 WordPress support for DreamPress, but they do not establish that every feature applies to every tier of every provider.
WP Engine: premium managed operations
One comparison describes WP Engine as its best managed WordPress host and reports a $25-per-month price with a 99.95% uptime figure. Those details are unverified here. If you evaluate it, ask what the uptime percentage measures, the time window used, what exclusions apply and whether credits are the only remedy.

- [Easy Disassemble] Making incidental repairs quick and easy! Very nice, flexible cable
- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
WP Engine is most defensible when developer or business time costs more than the hosting premium. A personal site with little operational complexity may not recover that premium, while a revenue-generating site may value staging and WordPress-specialist support enough to justify it.
DreamPress: managed WordPress inside the DreamHost family
DreamPress is reported at $14.99 per month initially and $19.99 per month at renewal, with staging and 24/7 WordPress support. These figures and features require confirmation in the current plan description. It is a logical middle ground for someone who wants managed WordPress workflows without moving to the highest reported monthly price in this set.
Ask whether staging is available on the exact tier you are buying, how staging databases and media are synchronized, and whether support handles plugin conflicts or only the hosting platform.
Rocket.net: premium starting point
A reviewer lists Rocket.net from $30 per month. No renewal figure was supplied, so the starting price cannot be used as a full-cost comparison. Request the recurring amount and any limits on visits, bandwidth, storage, staging sites and backups before comparing it with a shared plan.
Cloudways: when a fixed shared plan is the wrong model
Cloudways bills per server, with the amount changing according to the selected cloud provider and server size. Available choices are DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS and Google Cloud. That means there is no single Cloudways headline price comparable to a shared-hosting plan.

Third-party pages cite three different entry points: $11 per month, $14 per month for a Standard plan and $7 per month for a DigitalOcean-based entry. These conflicting numbers may reflect different providers, server sizes or promotions. Backup storage is reported separately at $0.033 per gigabyte. No free plan was established; one source reports a three-day free trial, which should be confirmed on the current Cloudways site.
Cloudways is appropriate when you understand server sizing, monitoring and scaling, or when you need to choose the underlying cloud vendor. It is less suitable if you want one predictable bill and a traditional shared-hosting support model. Budget for the server, backups, traffic growth and any add-ons separately.

How to compare the real cost over 12 to 36 months
Use a simple worksheet rather than sorting by the largest discount percentage. Record the promotional term, the renewal term, the monthly rate in each period, domain charges, taxes, migration fees, backups and paid add-ons. Then calculate:
Total for a period = (introductory monthly rate × introductory months) + (renewal monthly rate × remaining months) + recurring extras.
Do not assume that a 12-month promotion and a 36-month promotion are interchangeable. A low rate may require prepayment for several years, while a higher monthly rate may allow cancellation sooner. Cloud hosting needs a different worksheet because server and backup usage can change each month.
Best Value
| Question | Why it changes the result |
|---|---|
| What is the renewal rate after the advertised term? | This is the recurring price you will pay for the majority of the site’s life. |
| How long must you prepay to obtain the introduction? | Long commitments increase cash outlay and reduce flexibility. |
| Is the domain free only for year one? | A later domain renewal can erase a small hosting-price advantage. |
| Are backups included? | Separate backup storage or an external service adds an ongoing cost. |
| What happens when traffic grows? | Shared-resource limits can force an upgrade before the renewal date. |
Feature and scope checklist
- Managed versus shared: Decide whether you need WordPress-specific assistance and automatic-update workflows or only a place to run WordPress.
- Staging: Confirm that the exact plan includes a staging site and learn whether database and media changes can be pushed both ways.
- Migration: Establish whether migration is handled by staff, a plugin or a one-time assisted service.
- SSL and domain: Verify whether SSL is included indefinitely and whether the free domain applies only during the first registration period.
- Backups: Check frequency, retention, restore fees and whether backups are stored separately from the production server.
- Uptime language: Read the measurement period, exclusions and compensation terms behind any percentage claim.
- Resource limits: Look for inode, CPU, RAM, visitor, bandwidth and database restrictions, not just storage capacity.
- Support boundaries: Ask whether support troubleshoots WordPress themes and plugins or only the hosting network and server.
Moving a WordPress site without avoidable downtime
- Record the current state. Note the PHP version, WordPress version, active plugins, DNS records, cron jobs, email settings, SSL status and scheduled tasks.
- Buy the new plan while the old site remains live. Do not cancel Bluehost before the new account, storage and WordPress installation are ready.
- Create a complete backup. Export the database and copy uploads, themes, plugins and configuration files. Keep one copy outside both hosting accounts.
- Clone or migrate to the new host. Use the provider’s assisted migration if it is included; otherwise import the database and files and update the database credentials in the configuration.
- Test on a temporary address. Check login, permalinks, forms, media, ecommerce checkout, redirects, scheduled jobs, analytics and transactional email. For a managed plan, test staging and the restore process as well.
- Lower DNS time-to-live before the switch. A shorter TTL can reduce the period during which visitors reach different servers, but DNS resolvers may still cache records longer than the requested value.
- Change DNS and monitor. Watch access logs, error logs, forms, orders and uptime from multiple networks. Keep the old account active until traffic consistently reaches the new host.
- Cancel only after verification. Save invoices, backups and DNS screenshots, then cancel the old plan before its next renewal if the migration is stable.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Choosing on the first-year price alone
A low introductory number can become expensive at renewal. Put the renewal figure beside the promotion before comparing providers.
Assuming “managed” means unlimited help
Managed WordPress usually narrows support toward the platform. Confirm the policy for custom code, third-party plugins, malware cleanup and performance tuning.
Ignoring email and DNS dependencies
Website files are only part of a migration. Inventory mailboxes, MX records, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, subdomains and external services before changing nameservers.
Treating an uptime percentage as a speed guarantee
Uptime measures availability under a provider’s definition; it does not establish page speed, database performance or visitor experience. No published market-share or independent performance statistics were available in the material used for this comparison.
Locking into a long term without an exit plan
Check refund windows, cancellation timing, restoration charges and whether unused prepaid months are refundable. Keep an exportable backup so a future move remains practical.

It can be. Staying is rational when the renewal bill fits your budget, the included domain, SSL, AI builder and 24/7 WordPress support meet your needs, and you do not need features another host handles better. Switching is rational when the renewal amount is the main objection, when you need a managed workflow or staging, or when a verified alternative offers a lower long-term total for equivalent resources.
Make the decision with your own renewal date, site size and operational requirements. Recheck every quote immediately before purchase because hosting prices and terms can change, and the available third-party figures conflict.
Bottom line
For shared hosting, investigate SiteGround, DreamHost, InterServer and A2 Hosting by renewal cost rather than promotional price. For managed WordPress, compare WP Engine, DreamPress and Rocket.net on support scope, staging, uptime definitions and recurring fees. Choose Cloudways only if metered cloud infrastructure and provider choice solve a real requirement. The winning Bluehost alternative is the one whose full-term cost and support model still make sense after the introductory offer ends.
