The Breville The Q is a strong alternative for its ice program and easier cleanup; lower-cost picks involve trade-offs in fruit texture, ice capacity, or cleaning. The right choice depends on what you blend and how much at a time—not just the wattage printed on the box.
How the five picks compare
The scores and specifications below are from RTINGS’ frozen-drink guide, updated August 27, 2026, which says its recommendations draw on tests of more than 135 blenders. Scores are that publisher’s ice-crushing ratings, not a universal measure or a guarantee for every recipe.

Which blender fits your frozen drinks?
Blendtec Classic 575: best for large batches
RTINGS’ top pick is a good match when you want to serve several drinks at once. In its review, RTINGS reports that the blender quickly turned a dozen ice cubes into snow-like ice, handled fibrous fruit smoothly, and worked without stopping to scrape the jar. Its primary jar is easy to clean. The trade-off is loud operation, which may matter in a small apartment or during a gathering.
Breville The Q: best for an ice program and cleanup
The Q’s Ice Crush/Auto-Pulse mode produced fluffy, snow-like ice in RTINGS’ review, and the blender handled fibrous fruit smoothly. RTINGS describes it as well-built, comparatively quiet for a blender, and easy to reach into by hand for cleaning. Larger batches blend quickly with little intervention; small batches take more time and effort than in the Blendtec.
#1 Best Overall
- INCREASED MOTOR POWER: The Ninja Professional Plus features a new modern design and a more powerful motor than Ninja's original Professional Blender (1400W vs 1000W of BL610)
- POWERFUL ICE CRUSHING: Total Crushing blades give you perfectly crushed ice for smoothies and frozen drinks with peak professional power
- POWERFUL ICE CRUSHING: Total Crushing blades give you perfectly crushed ice for smoothies and frozen drinks with peak professional power
- INTELLIGENT AUTO-IQ PROGRAMS: Take the guesswork out of drink making with 3 Auto-iQ intelligent presets that combine unique timed pulsing, blending, and pausing patterns that do the work for you
- FAMILY-SIZE PITCHER: The 72-oz. pitcher is great for making large batches for the whole family, with 64-oz. max liquid capacity clearly marked
Ninja Detect Power Blender Pro: fast ice crushing, with a fruit caveat
RTINGS gives this model the highest ice-crushing score among these five. Its BlendSense feature can crush a large batch quickly, but fibrous fruit may leave bits, and some slushies may need a second program run. The pitcher has a pouring spout, and its components are dishwasher-safe; the sharp spiral blades can be awkward to wash by hand. RTINGS says it is louder than The Q.
Ninja Professional Blender 1000: budget pick for pulse control
Pulse mode made snow-like ice in RTINGS’ review, and the pitcher’s spout helps with serving. This is a practical lower-cost direction if your drinks rely mainly on ice and liquid rather than fibrous fruit: the guide found fruit with fibrous segments less uniformly blended. Sharp blades and tight spaces make hand-cleaning more difficult. RTINGS describes it as quieter than most blenders, while noting that crushing ice is still loud.
Rank #2
- 1000W PROFESSIONAL POWER: Effortlessly powers through tough ingredients like ice and frozen fruit for smooth, consistent results every time
- POWERFUL ICE CRUSHING: Total Crushing technology blasts through ice and frozen ingredients with ease, turning ice to snow in seconds
- FAMILY-SIZE PITCHER: Great for making large batches for the whole family or for entertaining, with 64-oz. max liquid capacity clearly marked
- MULTIPLE SPEED SETTINGS: Choose from Low, High, and Max for consistent results across smoothies, sauces, frozen drinks, and more
- EASY CLEANUP DESIGN: Dishwasher-safe and BPA-free parts make cleanup quick and hassle-free after every blend
Black+Decker Quiet Blender with Cyclone Glass Jar: smaller batches, quieter fruit blending
RTINGS reports that this model can make bar-quality ice in small batches of about six cubes and blends fresh fruit more smoothly than the Ninja Professional Blender 1000. Its pulse control and “Icy Drink” program offer both manual and preset operation. The guide describes it as quiet and simple to clean, but its ice-crushing performance is well below the other four picks, making it a weaker fit for frequent large batches.

Choose by ingredients, controls, and batch size
Ice-only cocktails versus fruit-heavy drinks
Ice, juice, milk, and syrup create a different blending challenge from pineapple, mango, citrus segments, or other fibrous ingredients. For fruit-heavy frozen drinks, the Blendtec and Breville have stronger evidence for smooth results in RTINGS’ guide. The Ninja models can crush ice effectively, but the guide notes less uniform results with fibrous fruit. If you mostly make syrup-based margaritas or daiquiris, ice texture may matter more than fruit smoothness.
Rank #3
- POWERFUL 1200W MOTOR: 1200-watt motor base is made for powering through the toughest ingredients for smoothies, shakes, frozen drinks, and more
- AUTO-IQ INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY: Auto-iQ technology with a Crush preset program combines unique timed pulsing, blending, and pausing patterns that take the guesswork out of blending
- XL FAMILY-SIZE PITCHER: 72-oz.* full-size pitcher is great for making large batches for the whole family, with 64-oz. max liquid capacity clearly marked
- ICE CRUSHING BLADES: Stacked blade assembly with Total Crushing blades turns ice to snow for shakes, frozen drinks, and creamy textures
- PRECISE MANUAL CONTROL: Low, medium, high, and pulse manual speed settings allow for complete control of your blend
Preset programs versus manual pulsing
A dedicated ice or frozen-drink program can reduce guesswork, while pulse control lets you stop at the texture you want. RTINGS’ separate ice-crushing comparison notes that the Vitamix Propel 750 crushes ice well but has no automatic ice program, so users pulse manually. The Ninja Professional Blender 1000 also relies on pulse for its snow-like ice result; the Black+Decker offers both pulse and an “Icy Drink” program.
Capacity is not always usable liquid volume
Jar or pitcher capacity can mean total vessel volume rather than the maximum amount of liquid you should blend. For example, SharkNinja lists the BN701 pitcher as 72 oz total capacity and 64 oz maximum liquid capacity. Check the maker’s wording before assuming the full jar capacity is usable for a drink batch.
Rank #4

- SERVE WITH EASE: The spout on this countertop blender lets you pour contents into your glass without spills or drips, so serving with this electric blender is easy and mess-free.
- EASY TO CLEAN WITH DISHWASHER SAFE GLASS JAR, LID AND BLADES: This Hamilton Beach blender has a glass jar that holds 40 ounces; The jar, lid, and removable blades on the blender are all dishwasher safe.
- 12 BLENDING FUNCTIONS FOR MAXIMUM VERSATILITY: This multi-function kitchen blender has 12 functions controlled by 5 buttons on the easy-to-read control panel. It blends and crushes ice for smoothies and milkshakes, purees, dices, chops and more.
Do not choose by wattage alone
The listed wattages do not establish which blender will produce the best frozen drink. RTINGS’ ice-crushing guide emphasizes whether ice keeps moving around the blades, along with jar capacity and blade design. Compare tested ice results and the recipes you make instead of treating a higher power number as a performance guarantee.

RTINGS’ frozen-drink guide also names the Blendtec Total Blender Classic, Vitamix Propel 750, Vitamix 5200, and Breville Super Q BBL920 as alternatives. The guide says the Super Q adds a personal jar and handles small fibrous-fruit batches better than The Q, at a substantially higher price. It describes the Vitamix 5200 as favoring sturdy construction and multipurpose thick blends over crushing as much ice at once as the Blendtec. Check model availability before choosing an alternative.

That guide describes a seven-year warranty and noise above 98 dB at highest speed. The Braun TriForce Power Pro JB9041BK is another option if you prefer an automatic Ice Crush program and a 68 oz main pitcher; RTINGS cautions that its continuous program may require stopping to stir if ice catches under the blades.

Quick Recap
What to check before buying
- Match the jar size to the number of servings you usually make, and check maximum liquid capacity separately.
- Decide whether you want a preset ice program, automatic blending, or direct pulse control.
- For fruit-based drinks, weigh smooth blending against ice-crushing strength.
- Consider blade access and dishwasher-safe components if cleanup is a frequent concern.
- Check current model availability, retailer pricing, and warranty terms: these can change, and RTINGS says its guide takes price, reader feedback, and availability into account.
