Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThere is no single best Baldur’s Gate 3 preset for every PC or Steam Deck. Start with the settings intended for your platform, then adjust for your hardware, display resolution, and whether you value smoother performance or a sharper image. On Steam Deck, Larian’s older FAQ recommends Medium video options and FSR 1.0 Balanced for performance issues; its later native-build guidance discusses FSR 2.2 as a sharper but potentially slower alternative.
Steam Deck: start with Larian’s device-specific recommendations
Larian’s Steam Deck troubleshooting FAQ recommends these baseline choices in Options > Video:

- Display mode: Fullscreen.
- Aspect ratio: 16:9.
- Controller layout: “Official Layout for Baldur’s Gate 3 – Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad.”
- If performance is a problem: set the default video options to Medium and AMD FSR 1.0 to Balanced.
The FAQ also recommends checking for Steam Deck system software updates. These are Larian’s troubleshooting suggestions for the Deck, not a universal preset for Windows PCs or a guarantee of a particular frame rate.
Steam Deck blur: choose between FSR 1 and FSR 2.2
The older FAQ’s FSR 1.0 Balanced recommendation needs context. In its later Hotfix #34 article, Larian says Baldur’s Gate 3 has a native Steam Deck build, which uses less CPU and memory than running the game through Proton. Larian says the game launches with native Steam Deck graphics settings by default after that update.

- 【INTEGRATED SPEAKERS】Whether you're at work or in the midst of an intense gaming session, our built-in speakers provide rich and seamless audio, all while keeping your desk clutter-free.
- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
Larian notes that the default FSR 1 upscaling can look fuzzy and presents FSR 2.2 as an image-quality alternative, with some performance cost. If the picture looks soft, try FSR 2.2 and judge the result at your usual viewing distance; if performance suffers, return to FSR 1.0 Balanced or another setting that feels better on your Deck. Neither mode is best for every player or situation.
Larian describes the native build as providing “a more stable framerate, lower loading times, and smoother gameplay.” That is Larian’s description of the build, not an independent performance measurement.

Windows PC: tune settings to your hardware and target resolution
The available official guidance does not establish a tested, current PC preset that works across hardware classes. Use a repeatable adjustment process instead of applying Steam Deck settings to a desktop or laptop:

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Check your baseline. If performance is poor, begin with the game’s default options or Medium settings. Steam’s Baldur’s Gate 3 listing publishes minimum and recommended Windows specifications; meeting either tier does not promise a specific frame rate or visual quality.
- Keep resolution in view. The game has to render more pixels at higher output resolutions, which can increase the graphics workload. If you reduce resolution or use scaling, check that text and interface elements remain legible on your display.
- Change one demanding visual option at a time. Lower it, then revisit the same scene before changing another setting. This makes it easier to tell whether the change helped, rather than guessing from different areas of the game.
- Try a supported upscaler only if you like its image. Available options depend on graphics hardware and rendering API. Compare clarity and performance at your target resolution; support for a technology does not mean it is available on every system.
- Distinguish graphics slowdowns from CPU-heavy areas. Lowering visual quality may not resolve every slowdown. Performance can vary by scene and hardware, so do not assume one setting will fix all stutters or frame-rate drops.
Patch behavior can change over time. Larian’s support site lists later updates, including a performance-focused Hotfix #35, so advice tied to an earlier patch should not be treated as a definitive account of current behavior.

What Steam lists for Windows
Steam’s listing gives the following requirements. They are published hardware requirements, not benchmark results or a promise that a particular preset or frame rate will be achieved.
| Tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel i5-4690 or AMD FX 8350 | 8 GB RAM | GTX 970, RX 480, Intel Arc A380, or listed Qualcomm graphics | 150 GB; SSD required |

Requirements can change, so check Steam’s live listing for the current specifications before installing or troubleshooting.

Upscaling support varies by technology
Larian says Intel XeSS is available on DirectX 11 for Intel Xe graphics, and on Vulkan for Intel Xe and graphics from other vendors. This API and hardware qualification matters: XeSS support is not the same as universal availability.

Make books and other legible text larger
To change the text size in books and other legible items, open Options > Interface Options and look for the text-size control. Larian documented this option in its Patch 6 notes. The documented scope is books and other legible items; it does not establish that the control enlarges every menu, subtitle, dialogue line, or interface element.
If a graphics setting appears not to take effect, check that the game is patched and that its displayed resolution matches your monitor. Larian has previously documented a fix for graphics settings not applying on some 4K monitors.
PlayStation and Xbox: do not apply PC presets by assumption
The cited official material does not establish a comparable user-adjustable graphics preset for PS5 or Xbox. PC labels such as FSR settings, API choices, and graphics-quality presets should not be assumed to map to console options. Larian’s support page includes console-specific patch fixes, but those are not a console graphics-tuning guide: Larian support updates.
