For Indian web agencies, the best Applitools alternative depends on what you need to replace. If you already use Playwright and can own screenshot baselines in your repository, start with Playwright’s built-in visual comparisons. For hosted review and commit-linked history, evaluate Chromatic. Consider BrowserStack Percy when BrowserStack fits your wider testing workflow, and assess TestMu AI SmartUI only after confirming its current plan details.
These tools do not all work the same way: local screenshot assertions put more responsibility on your team, while hosted services add shared review workflows and vendor terms. ScreenshotNeo is also worth trying first when the immediate need is to capture clean website screenshots through an API or an AI-agent MCP server, rather than replace a full visual-regression testing system.

Which Applitools alternative fits your agency?
| Option | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Teams that need website screenshots through an API or MCP server, with consent banners and common popups removed before capture. | It is a screenshot service, not a like-for-like replacement for a visual testing suite with baseline review and regression workflows. See ScreenshotNeo. |
| Playwright screenshot assertions | Agencies already using Playwright that want code-owned tests and repository-managed baselines. | Your team must keep rendering environments consistent and review baseline changes. |
| Chromatic | Teams looking for hosted visual review, commit-linked snapshots, and an archive-based debugging workflow. | Adds a cloud service, account administration, plan limits, and a Chrome requirement for its documented Playwright integration. |
| BrowserStack Percy | Agencies already using BrowserStack or evaluating visual testing within a broader browser-testing vendor. | Check current screenshot allowances, plan bundling, overages, and the total cost for your intended setup. |
| TestMu AI SmartUI | Teams investigating hosted visual testing under the current TestMu AI brand. | The available official pricing destination does not establish a verified numeric SmartUI price or quota; confirm current details directly. |
Applitools Eyes is an AI-powered visual testing product for sites and apps. The options here instead span local screenshot assertions, hosted visual review, and visual testing offered alongside broader browser-testing products. Compare operating models and workflows, not just feature lists.
1. ScreenshotNeo: try it first for clean screenshot capture
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server made by Yorker Media. It is the first option to consider if your agency needs clean page captures for documentation, content checks, or agent workflows: it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor, then removes more than 60 known consent platforms as well as newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture. Each step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed; bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
It is not a substitute for the baseline approval and visual-regression workflow of a dedicated testing platform. Use it when screenshot capture itself is the job, or alongside a visual test framework. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

2. Playwright: keep visual baselines in your repository
Playwright Test can capture a page screenshot and compare later runs with a reference image. On the first run it writes a baseline; maintainers review and commit that image, then update it when a visual change is intentional. The process suits teams comfortable maintaining test code and baseline files alongside their application.
What the workflow requires
- Keep the operating system, browser version, browser settings, hardware, fonts, and other rendering conditions as consistent as possible between baseline creation and test runs. Playwright warns that environment differences can change screenshot output.
- Control dynamic content and test data so expected changes do not generate noisy diffs. Playwright supports stylesheets that can hide volatile content.
- Review generated diffs before accepting a new baseline; updating a baseline should record an intentional UI change, not silence a failure.
Playwright’s visual comparison is a credible low-cost starting point when your agency already runs Playwright, but it shifts environment control and baseline review to your team. See the Playwright visual comparisons documentation.
3. Chromatic: hosted review and commit-linked history
Chromatic integrates with Playwright and Storybook workflows. Its Playwright documentation describes capturing an archive of each test page, uploading it for cloud snapshot comparison, indexing snapshots against Git commits, and providing a dedicated review workflow. This can help an agency that wants shared review and archived debugging rather than managing all review around image files in the repository.

Factor in the cloud account and project administration. The documented Playwright integration requires Chrome. For unlinked Git projects, Chromatic describes limitations that include manual pull-request status setup and access management.
Published Chromatic prices
Chromatic’s official pricing page listed these public monthly prices when reviewed on October 3, 2026. They are vendor-published prices, not verified final prices for Indian customers.

| Starter | $179 | 35,000 |
| Pro | $399 | 85,000 |

The page listed extra billed snapshots at $0.008 for Starter. Confirm billing currency, taxes, overages, and any contract terms before using these figures in a client estimate. See Chromatic’s Playwright integration documentation and official pricing page.
4. BrowserStack Percy: consider it in the BrowserStack ecosystem
BrowserStack’s pricing page lists Percy visual testing alongside its broader testing products and presents screenshot-based plans and allowances. It is a candidate if your agency already uses BrowserStack or wants to evaluate visual tests within that vendor’s wider testing workflow.
Rank #3
The dynamic pricing page does not establish a final Indian contract price. Before comparing Percy with a standalone visual testing plan, verify current screenshot volumes, overages, and whether Percy is bundled with or purchased separately from the BrowserStack plan you need. See BrowserStack’s pricing page.
5. TestMu AI SmartUI: verify the current offer before comparing
The pricing destination formerly associated with LambdaTest redirected to TestMu AI at the time of review. Use the current TestMu AI name when checking the product, and confirm SmartUI’s live screenshot quota, overages, and contract terms. The available official pricing information does not support a reliable numeric SmartUI quote, so do not rely on old third-party LambdaTest prices. See TestMu AI’s pricing page.
How to compare tools for an Indian agency
Start with your existing framework
List the test frameworks your projects actually use: Playwright, Storybook, Cypress, Selenium, or another setup. Extending the current suite is often easier to pilot than adding a parallel test architecture. Playwright includes screenshot assertions; Chromatic documents a Playwright integration; BrowserStack and TestMu AI cover broader testing workflows, but check their current product documentation for fit.
Decide who owns baselines and review
With local Playwright baselines, images can be versioned in the repository, but your team owns rendering consistency, diff review, and updates. Hosted services can centralize review; ask each vendor about baseline ownership, archive retention, client access, and how visual changes appear in pull requests.

Specify the browser, viewport, device, and UI-state matrix
Write down the exact browsers, viewports, devices, and application states covered by your client commitments. A visual testing feature does not by itself establish comprehensive real-device or cross-browser coverage. Check the plan’s supported matrix rather than assuming all environments are included.
Model usage across clients and builds
Estimate monthly snapshots or screenshots by client, branch, viewport, UI state, and build cadence. Compare actual expected usage with included allowances and overage rates; an entry-tier price alone does not show the likely cost of a busy agency workflow.

Confirm India-specific commercial and operational terms
The reviewed pages do not establish INR billing, GST treatment, local data residency, local support guarantees, or agency multi-client terms. Ask vendors for written confirmation on these points, along with currency, taxes, contract terms, and any usage overages. Do not infer the final Indian price from a USD list price.
Pilot reliability and maintenance
Run a representative pilot with your own projects. Control dynamic content, fonts, browser versions, animations, and test data, then measure false positives and baseline maintenance effort. This is especially important when many client sites have different rendering environments or frequently changing content.
Best Value
Common selection mistakes
- Choosing on headline price alone: estimate volume across clients, branches, viewports, and states, then account for plan limits and overages.
- Assuming hosted means zero maintenance: hosted review can centralize collaboration, but teams still need to manage access, baselines, test inputs, and project administration.
- Treating a screenshot service as a regression platform: screenshot capture and visual-regression testing answer different needs; choose based on whether you need captures, comparisons, approval workflows, or all three.
- Using stale product or pricing names: the former LambdaTest pricing destination now points to TestMu AI; verify the current SmartUI product and terms directly.
