Amazon lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG, Wi‑Fi 6, 8 GB of storage and 2 GB of memory for this model. Choose the Fire TV Stick HD (2026) for an HD television, or consider the less expensive-positioned Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) only after confirming that its Vega OS supports every app you use. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation, 2023) remains in Amazon’s lineup, but the available specifications do not establish that it is universally faster or better value.
Amazon Fire TV Stick models available in 2026
Amazon’s specification materials distinguish three newer tiers—the Fire TV Stick HD (2026), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) and Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025)—while also listing the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation, 2023) and older devices. Always use the complete model name and year when comparing listings; similar names can refer to different generations or regional versions.
| Model | Maximum display tier | Notable documented details | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick HD (2026) | HD | Amazon identifies it as the current HD tier; other specifications vary by listing | An HD television or a viewer who does not need 4K output |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) | 4K | Wi‑Fi 6, 8 GB storage, 2 GB memory, Bluetooth 5.2 plus BLE, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG; Fire OS 8 | Most 4K buyers who want the broadest documented HDR support |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) | 4K | HDR10+ and Vega OS 1.1; positioned by Amazon as a value-oriented 4K product | Cost-conscious 4K buyers whose required apps are confirmed compatible |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation, 2023) | 4K | Listed in Amazon’s device lineup; the supplied specifications do not establish a current speed or value advantage | Buyers who need a specific Max-only feature confirmed on their regional listing |
Which Fire TV Stick should you buy?
Choose the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus for a typical 4K setup
The 4K Plus is the straightforward recommendation when your television supports 4K and you want Amazon’s documented HDR options in one device. Amazon lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG, along with Wi‑Fi 6, 8 GB of storage and 2 GB of memory. These are specification claims, not independent measurements of menu speed, app-launch time or reliability.
Use the Plus when your television or sound system specifically benefits from Dolby Vision, or when you want the Fire OS 8 app environment rather than Vega OS. Confirm that the exact local listing carries the same feature set before ordering.

Choose the Fire TV Stick HD for an HD television
The HD model is the sensible match for a 720p or 1080p television. A 4K stick cannot turn an HD panel into a 4K display, so paying for 4K output makes little sense unless you expect to move the device to a 4K television or want a particular feature that the HD model lacks.
Consider the Fire TV Stick 4K Select only after checking apps
Amazon describes the Select as a value-oriented 4K stick with HDR10+. Its important difference is software: Amazon identifies the Select as using Vega OS 1.1, while the 4K Plus uses Fire OS 8. Do not treat the Select as merely a slower Plus. Check each must-have service—especially niche streaming, broadcaster, sports, authentication or local-media apps—on the current regional listing or the service provider’s compatibility information before buying.

Buy the 4K Max only for a confirmed feature need
Amazon still lists the 4K Max 2nd Generation from 2023. The available material here does not provide a current comparative test, live price comparison or a complete feature-by-feature case for choosing it over the 4K Plus. Select it only when the current listing confirms a feature you specifically need and the price difference is acceptable.
Fire TV Stick 4K Plus vs. 4K Select
| Decision point | 4K Plus (2025) | 4K Select (2025) |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 4K | 4K |
| HDR formats documented by Amazon | Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG | HDR10+ |
| Operating system | Fire OS 8 | Vega OS 1.1 |
| Wireless specification | Wi‑Fi 6 | Not stated in the supplied specifications |
| Memory and storage | 2 GB memory and 8 GB storage | Not stated in the supplied specifications |
| Best reason to choose it | Documented HDR breadth and known Fire OS app environment | Lower-positioned 4K option, provided your apps work on Vega OS |
The operating-system difference is the practical dividing line. Picture quality also depends on the television, its HDR implementation and the streaming service’s own format support; a stick cannot add Dolby Vision to a service or television that does not provide it.

Match the stick to your television and content
- HD panel: Start with the Fire TV Stick HD (2026).
- 4K panel with Dolby Vision: The 4K Plus is the documented fit; verify that your television and subscriptions also support Dolby Vision.
- 4K panel using HDR10+: Either 4K model may fit, but the Select requires an app-compatibility check.
- Mixed televisions: Buy for the screen where the stick will spend most of its time, or move a 4K device later if you expect an upgrade.
Networking: Wi‑Fi or wired Ethernet?
The 4K Plus lists Wi‑Fi 6, which can be useful with a compatible router and a congested wireless environment. Wi‑Fi performance still depends on router placement, interference and your internet service. Amazon also documents an Ethernet Adapter sold separately for compatible Fire TV devices. It is optional, not required for ordinary Wi‑Fi operation; verify compatibility before purchasing the adapter.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the specifications do—and do not—tell you
Storage, memory, Wi‑Fi generation and HDR support help establish feature fit. They do not prove that one stick opens every app faster, has a more reliable interface or offers better value. No independent comparative speed, satisfaction or sales statistic is established here, and prices and stock change by country and date. Treat Amazon’s statement that the Select “helps you maximize every pixel of your 4K TVs at an incredible value” as promotional language, not an independent test result.
