If GeForce Experience is not working, first identify whether the app will not open, driver updates fail, installation stops, or an overlay feature is broken. NVIDIA is moving remaining users to the NVIDIA app because some GeForce Experience versions cannot update automatically. NVIDIA also warns that critical GeForce Experience web servers will be switched off, but its notice gives no shutdown date. Use the steps below to migrate, install drivers directly, or escalate with useful diagnostics.
1. Identify the failure before changing anything
Write down the exact symptom and error message. The remedy differs depending on what failed:
- GeForce Experience does not open or closes immediately.
- The Drivers tab will not check for or download an update.
- A driver download starts but installation fails.
- Recording, the in-game overlay, or another feature no longer works.
Also record your Windows version, GPU model, GeForce Experience version, and whether the problem began after a Windows, driver, or app update. NVIDIA does not publish one universal fix for all of these cases.
2. Move from GeForce Experience to NVIDIA App
NVIDIA’s current path for remaining GeForce Experience users is to upgrade to the NVIDIA app. NVIDIA says some legacy versions cannot update themselves automatically and states that “In the near future, we will be switching off critical GeForce Experience web servers.” The notice does not specify when that shutdown will occur.

- Download the installer from NVIDIA rather than from a third-party download site.
- Install the NVIDIA app and sign in or configure it as requested by the installer.
- Use its Drivers section for future downloads and installations.
Migration is the supported way forward, but it cannot by itself repair unrelated Windows, hardware, network, or driver faults.
3. Bypass a broken updater with NVIDIA’s manual driver search
If the driver tab is the part that fails, download the driver without relying on GeForce Experience. Use NVIDIA’s official GeForce driver search and select the exact GPU and operating system before downloading.

- Choose your product type, product series, specific GPU, operating system, and download type.
- Submit the search and verify that the result matches your hardware and Windows edition.
- Download the installer from NVIDIA and run it locally.
- Follow the installer’s prompts, then restart Windows if requested.
Do not select a driver for a similar-looking GPU or a different Windows version. A manual download avoids the legacy app’s updater; it does not guarantee that every installation error will disappear.
4. Choose the right NVIDIA driver track
NVIDIA describes both tracks as capable of running games and creative applications. The distinction is the priority each track serves, not a blanket ranking of quality.

Confirm compatibility for your specific GPU and operating system in the driver search instead of assuming that either track supports every configuration.
5. Use NVIDIA app recovery controls when available
The NVIDIA app documents controls to download and install drivers, switch between Game Ready and Studio tracks, and reinstall a driver previously installed through the app. If a recent app-managed driver is behaving badly:

- Open the NVIDIA app and go to its Drivers section.
- Use the reinstall option for a driver that the app previously installed.
- If your workload has changed, switch to the other driver track and install it.
These controls belong to the NVIDIA app. Do not assume that the same options exist in legacy GeForce Experience. For driver-level graphics options, NVIDIA points users to NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings.

NVIDIA’s Driver Installation Hints specifically advises disabling download-accelerator utilities and not running antivirus software in the background during driver installation. Treat this as NVIDIA’s installation guidance, not a guaranteed fix or a general instruction to weaken security.

- Close download managers or accelerator utilities before starting the installer.
- Follow your organization’s security policy before changing antivirus behavior.
- Retry with the driver package selected for the exact GPU and operating system.
If you cannot disable security software under your policy, contact the responsible administrator or NVIDIA support rather than bypassing that policy.
7. Escalate with complete diagnostic details
When migration, a manual driver install, or the documented recovery controls do not solve the problem, use NVIDIA’s consumer support directory. It links to GeForce support, driver downloads, and community forums.
Include the exact error text, Windows version, GPU model, GeForce Experience or NVIDIA app version, driver version, and the step that failed. Mention whether the issue started immediately after an update and whether the app opens at all. Those details let support distinguish an application failure from a driver-installation or system-compatibility problem.
