Soundtrack by Twitch has been discontinued. Twitch’s official alternatives page names six music services for streamers: Chillhop Music, NCS, Outertone by RouteNote, Pretzel by Songtradr, StreamBeats, and Monstercat Gold. Treat that list as a place to start, not a guarantee that every service covers your Twitch live stream, VODs, clips, monetization, and reposts elsewhere. Check the current license and workflow for your specific use before playing a track.
What happened to Soundtrack by Twitch?
Twitch announced in June 2023 that Soundtrack would shut down. In a July 17, 2023 update, Twitch said it had removed Soundtrack API endpoints from its documentation and that requests to them returned HTTP 410. The notice pointed developers to Twitch’s Music Options for Streamers page for alternatives. Soundtrack is not a current option.

Soundtrack’s appeal was its curated, rights-cleared music collection, software integration, and separate audio channel. Those are historical features, not assumptions to make about its replacements. Twitch’s September 2020 launch post specified OBS Studio v26.0 or later on PC for the beta and said Twitch Studio and Streamlabs OBS compatibility would follow; this does not establish current compatibility for any alternative.
Twitch’s named alternatives
Twitch’s official alternatives page lists six services. Its catalog counts are explicitly marked as applying “at time of posting,” and its broad price labels should not be treated as current quotes. The table is a shortlist, not a ranking: available evidence does not establish that any one option currently grants all the rights a particular streamer needs.
#1 Best Overall

How to choose a replacement
Match the license to every place the audio will appear
Ask whether permission covers live Twitch broadcasts, saved Twitch VODs, clips, and any other platform where you publish or simulcast. A license that covers one use should not be assumed to cover another. Check what happens to archived material if you cancel or a provider’s terms change.

Check the audio workflow and software
Find out whether you can route the music separately from your microphone, game, and other audio, and whether the provider supports your actual streaming software and setup. Soundtrack historically offered a separate audio channel; do not assume a replacement does the same. Twitch’s page mentions Streamlabs OBS and Elgato Stream Deck integrations for Pretzel, but confirm current availability with the provider.
Choose for your format, not a headline catalog count
Compare genres, moods, search and playlist tools, and whether the catalog suits gaming, chatting, DJ content, or your other broadcast format. Twitch labels the catalog counts on its page “at time of posting,” so they are not guaranteed current totals.

Read account, attribution, and payment terms
Check whether attribution is required, which account or channel must be registered, whether monetized or sponsored streams are allowed, and any geographic or plan restrictions. Confirm the current free tier, trial, and paid price with the service: Twitch’s page does not provide a reliable current price comparison.
Copyright, VODs, and clips: what to check
In its November 11, 2020 copyright guidance, Twitch said: “Most importantly, don’t play recorded music in your stream unless you own all rights in the music, or you have the permission of the necessary rights holder(s).” This is Twitch’s dated guidance; check current Twitch rules and the music provider’s terms before relying on it for a particular use.
- If music is built into a game, Twitch’s 2020 guidance advises checking the game’s EULA.
- If you cannot establish that your rights cover VODs and clips, consider whether to disable those features until you clarify the license. Twitch’s advice on this point is also from 2020.
- Do not assume a service makes every track safe for every platform or prevents every copyright claim. A claim-free outcome is not established by the existence of a music library.
The scale of Twitch’s historical copyright problem is context, not a current risk estimate: Twitch reported fewer than 50 music-related DMCA notifications per year before May 2020, then thousands of notifications per week beginning in May 2020. Twitch also said more than 99% of the notices it analyzed from late May through mid-October 2020 concerned background tracks. These figures were reported by Twitch in its November 11, 2020 post.

What about multistreaming or YouTube?
There is no blanket answer for multistreaming: the music license must cover each destination, and the available evidence does not establish the current cross-platform terms of the six named services. Ask the provider directly whether your planned simultaneous broadcasts, saved archives, and clips are included.
YouTube Creator Music is a separate, platform-specific option, not a direct Twitch replacement. YouTube’s help page says it is available to U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators and indicates paid licenses were to be phased out starting August 2026. Availability and terms may change, so check YouTube’s current Creator Music help page for eligibility and status.
